Just working on a 2 phase renovation project and have 2 separate window/door schedules for each phase. I am able to get the windows and doors showing on each schedule properly by defining custom categories in the schedule. However the numbering for the callouts under the Number column restart with W01, W02 etc. So I end up having 2 different windows using W01. Would like them to continue on so W01, W02, W03 in the first schedule, and then W04, W05 on the second schedule. But I do not see anywhere that you can get the window numbers to change to what I want with the callouts on. I can get rid of the callouts and just do custom labels, which is what I will probably do. But would be nice to keep the callouts. Hope this makes sense. Thanks!

I guess my question is even if it has always been like this, why? Seems like a normal thing that shouldn't need a work around. Even to do a manual bay window with windows on 3 sides it will not work correctly.

If I put more than one window per wall and keep them 6" apart, it works. any closer than 6" and the wall breaks apart again.

Just trying to create a cupola that has 4 corner posts and windows between where the trim and sill continues around. But it ends up breaking the wall like this...
-
Hi. Currently working on a project with a cupola and I am having issues with multiple corner windows. As they are put into place the siding and trim disappear. I created a test file and just built a 6'x6' room to see if it still happens and it does. If I put a 6" space between the windows it seems to alleviate the problem, however in the design there is to be 1 window per side, so the problem remains. This was in X14, but I was able to replicate it in X12 and X13. Is this a glitch or does anyone have any other thoughts? Cheers, Stephen

It is the old .PL1 file system. Current version I have installed will not open them and the oldest download in my digital locker is X10(see edit below). Also, to clarify, it was Chief 9.5 that they were created in, but I left the decimal out of my folder naming so that s why I was thinking Chief 95. However, I did find my old laptop with X1 on it so I am going to try loading the files on it and re-saving to then hopefully open in X12. But I may check out the X8 client viewer first as that would be handy to have for future use. I realize that there will probably be some of artifacts/cleanup, but this is a 348' structure (old textile mill) from 1883 that I do not want to re-measure! Thanks!! Edit: Figured out that if I checked "Show Upgraded Product Keys" in my digital locker it will show me downloads for the older software.

Hi there. I have a predicament where a large renovation project that abruptly ended in 2007 has become active again. I was using Chief 95 then and still have the files. However I no longer have older software than X12 running after refreshing my computer earlier this year. Wondering how far back I would have to try and go, so that the software will open a Chief 95 file? I still have the USB key from then and product keys back to X3. Not sure if I can locate install files for older software, but am looking at old backups. Any advice or thoughts as to how to open these up would be appreciated. Thanks, Stephen

Hi there again. I have not ordered a new computer yet, but am just about to pull the trigger on this one. Thought I would ask for thoughts on it before I do. There is a code for another $100 off bringing it down to $2099 CND. https://www.dell.com/en-ca/shop/desktops/xps-desktop/spd/xps-8940-desktop/dxps8940msr_ps106e Issues I see with Dell are upgrading it or if something like the power supply fails, it doesn't seem to be straightforward. However, if all is working well, I'm not one to mess with it. Might add another hard drive, but that's about it. Good buy? Cheers, Stephen

Thanks. They look promising!

Hello. I am contemplating purchasing a new desktop computer. The one I built 10 years ago is still running well, but it sounds like X13 will not run so great on it. The video card I have, Nvidia GeForce GTS 450, is up to date as far as I can tell and it supports Direct X12, but shader model shows up as 5.1. Wanted to build again, but with the whole lack of reasonably priced video cards, a pre-built seems to be the way to go. I am in Canada and here is one I am checking out. https://www.newegg.ca/abs-ali536/p/N82E16883360141?Item=N82E16883360141&Description=RTX 3070&cm_re=RTX_3070-_-83-360-141-_-Product Anyone with computer knowledge think this a good/bad pick or other suggestions? Thanks, Stephen

Door Schedule - Hinge Side with Elevation incorrect
BeaconHill replied to BeaconHill's topic in General Q & A
Thanks Robert! That resulted in a fix. It took a bit of work to get it right as when I reversed layers on the walls, it fixed the door in question, but made another one switch in the schedule. Had to break the walls and then reverse that section of wall back again. All is good now though! -
Hello. Wondering if anyone else has had issues with displaying a door schedule with the 3D Elevation showing? I prepared a simple door schedule for a project and wanted to show L or R hinge side/door swing with the elevation of the door. For some reason one of the doors is showing the incorrect elevation for a Left Hand door. I have attached an image with it circled. I usually do a separate elevation of all of the doors with the door numbers to show the style, but thought I would try it this way this time. My understanding is that if you approach the door with the door swinging away from you, whichever side the hinge is on represents the Left Hand or Right Hand. Or if you stand in the doorway with your back to the hinge, if the door opens to your right it is RH and if it opens to the left it is LH. Any thoughts or comments on how to fix this or if I am approaching it incorrectly, would be appreciated. Thanks, Stephen

Room Finish Schedule - Room Numbers on Plan
BeaconHill replied to BeaconHill's topic in General Q & A
Perfect! This was exactly what I was looking for. I was creating my room labels the same way as you, except I was missing the %room.schedule_number% macro. I am also going to try using %floor_number% in the "schedule number prefix" instead of 0 to see if it will show the floor number. Thanks! -
Hi there. I am working on a room finish schedule for a commercial layout and want to number the rooms and have the numbers referenced in the schedule. I can get a column "Number" to show in the schedule that has R01, R02 etc., but I cannot figure out how to get this to connect to show on the plan. Have tried a text macro, but can't find %room.number% as an option. Would also like to have them numbered 101, 102 for the first floor and 201, 202 etc. for the second floor instead of the R01 numbering system. Anyone have any insight? Thanks, Stephen

Oh shoot! Thanks! I knew I was missing something. Have done this before and it worked so was having a hard time understanding why it wasn't now. I guess I forgot to switch it to a panel. Thanks again!

Just looking to do this on a deck off of a horse barn and trying to apply the Glass X symbol to the balusters. For some reason they are showing up 90 degrees to what is expected. I have looked for a setting to rotate them, but cannot find anything. Am I missing something? This happens with any railing symbol I apply. Will probably place and resize the symbol manually anyway, but thought I should ask if this happens to anyone else or am I just doing it wrong?

I received a response from support. Here is part of the message: "I spent some time looking at your plan, I'm not certain how the plot lines got so offset. I've submitted your plan to our development department for further testing. Hopefully this issue can be resolved in a future update. In the mean time, I was able to correct the large offset of the view simply by deleting the view from the layout and resending it to the layout. Once I did that, I did still have the plot lines offset from the colors of the view, but not nearly as badly. " I already "fixed" it by re-sending the elevation to layout, but it is still shifted. But minor compared to what it was. At least they are informed of the issue and maybe it will get fixed in an update.
-
Just submitted it. Will see what they say.

Update: My Layout file was getting slow after adding 4 elevations using Live View. So I decided to switch the elevations back to Plot Lines until print time. One of them seemed extremely shifted. So I added a cad line and text in the working elevation to see where it shows up in layout. Turns out it is not the colour that has shifted, its the plot lines. Updating the view does not change anything. The first image is my working elevation and the second one shows it in layout. If I send a new elevation to layout or switch it back to live view, it fixes it. However I feel like I cannot trust it. Very strange.

Just wanted to chime in that I have been having this problem recently also. Thought it was because it was a file carried over from X8, but it wasn't happening on my other plans. Chopsaw directed me to this thread and it has helped me a lot... Thanks! Current plan has a 12000+ sqft structure and I had my Terrain excessively large for 3D and landscape. Shrunk my Terrain to just enough and it dramatically improved elevations >Plot Lines/ Color Fill. Not perfect but tolerable at print. Live View seems to be the best option for this plan. Seems to come out crisp. Fills are a little edgy in the PDF when you zoom in, but you cant see it at print. Will see how Live View works and hopefully I don't have issues with it like I do with Live View 3D Images(update on demand) as it slows everything down to a crawl, even when the image is not on the screen.
-
Thanks for the link to that thread. Didn't come across it in my search. Seems that if I delete my terrain it improves it quite a bit. But not perfect. Going to try Live View for elevations and see how that works out when sent to PDF. Had have bad luck with Live View (update on demand) for 3D images in layout though. Just adding one will slow everything down to a crawl and unbearable to try and edit. Even when not on the page or window with the image. Delete it and everything goes back to normal. Hopefully this doesn't happen with elevations.
-
Almost 2 years later from the last post on this thread.... This is still happening to my elevations when I check color fill. I have the latest update for x10. Doesn't happen on all of my plans though. Last plan I did turned out fine. Nice and sharp. But the one I am working on now is very off-set. Anyone have any updates on this? Been searching for answers.

I also am adding specs for a barn door and am looking to add info in the schedule. I have added doorways to the schedule dbx. However, for some reason, when I try to modify the comments or description of a doorway in the Components dbx, it does not show the changes in the schedule. Any thoughts? I have used plain txt over the schedule as a work around, but if the schedule changes, I will have to remember to check on it.

Thanks for the replies. I ended up tweaking my roof formation and made the the planes all 8:12 and the problem went away. Looks better now, so was a good detour.
