  1. Rich - that does look good on the sample view - the thumbnail texture only comes over as a low res image, though. Can you upload the png file of it?
  2. Rich, Thanks ,that is what I am after, but with a higher resolution. Charlie
  3. I found the image and screenshot it, but background is now white! I have an old PSP, but it won't do the transparent thing. Can anyone do that?
  4. dshall, It's the sun location. My rear elevation renders real well and that was the one I was after. I have noticed that the quick shadow will look great on one side and pretty bad on the others, but I rarely go to trouble of moving the sun around (sounds superhuman!). I usually set up my plan to have the primary elevation at the bottom of the screen and this seems to be how CA has oriented it. I will look into it and might find a better default location. I need to play with lights more - I really don't fool with them too much. System hardware should be good - GeForce 770 Core i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67 GHz12 GB
  5. This works pretty well. Could use a higher resolution on the image, though. Where is that image file in CA? I did three slabs with the image and angled the texture on each one to fill in the look.
  6. Thanks, This is what I have thought about, but I could not track down the image file. I think this might work as I want to see the plant from above. I will look for the 3D plants. I remember them from past versions, but have not seen them lately. They were render hogs as I recall.
  7. I am wanting to rotate a plant image , specifically the Hendera helix - the middle one, so that it appears flat to grow on the top of a trellis. Any ideas? Charlie
  8. Larry, It does need some tweaking, but this was just a quick study - I did it in a hour. That is a landing for the first tread. CA will not do a round end stair on a stair that passes through a doorway. One nice thing about using the slabs and polylines for the casing is the flexibility to make those little tweaks. Way slower and we seldom detail out the trim, other than note to match existing - the trim carpenters usually do a good job on the site. Existing looks like this.
  9. Michael, All the trim was suppressed on the doors and replaced with 3D molding polylines. The lintels have the Windsor One moldings applied to them and another molding for the casing legs. That allows the lintel to extend over multiple doors and the stair opening. Charlie
  10. Just showing. I had never done casings and lintels piece by piece before. Worked pretty well and was quicker than I thought.
  11. I will admit I still use a lot of workarounds that I have always used and do not explore the new options we get as the program evolves. I get busy and I just go for speed to get the work finished. This forum is great to keep up with this forum to stay with the current features and it amazes me to find a button, that has been sitting there, that will do exactly what I want to do. This is a deep program and I probably use 75% of the features, if that, after twenty years. I am trying to do an hour or so, on the weekends, looking at the videos, this forum, etc.- worth it - I always find some good technique. You guys are good.
  12. I thought this program's nickname was "workaround". Have I been missing something since V2?
  13. I make a wall as thin as possible make it all air gap material and make it invisible and run it parallel to the outside wall use this as a break between the walls you do not want to join.
  14. Lots of molding polylines and slabs for casing, lintels, etc.
  15. That might be tough - maybe if I make a wall out of airgap. I will see.
  16. That would be too easy. Arched window set to pass through, no casings, custom exterior sill, 3D molding for brick arch - set 8" deep and recessed into the wall; custom bar symbol for the grate. The interior has doors on each opening with - they are rectangular. Those are modified wall cabinets.
  17. These were a bear - old stable windows w/ iron bars
  18. Thanks for the replies.
  19. I am wondering if there would be any issues moving a file back and forth between a Mac version to a windows version of CA. Anybody had any experience with this? Thanks, Charlie
