  1. >Windows XP is still the third most used operating system worldwide but I would NEVER use it for internet browsing as it has way too many security weaknesses for that these days.

The weaknesses were not just in a browser, but network drivers (SMBv1). If you use file shares XP can only do v1s.

But there are also countless security issues. I would not recommend.

it will not let me change to 110 7/16" and 4:12 pitch. I change one and it changes the other if I lock one?

First lock the pitch and set you fascia height to 110 7/16".

Now lock the fascia height and set your pitch to 4:12.

    Practice, practice, practice.

  3. > Fit to paper locks the computer up

    DavidJPotter is exactly right.

Fit to paper in order to Print to Scale makes no sense. I suppose it is complicated layout with plan and your hardware can not handle it, or may be it is an outdated driver.

My advice would be to switch to Print to PDF, and see if this works. Do not use FIT to paper. Your printer should be able to handle A3, and your layout page size should be set to A3. Fit to paper is designed for images.

  4. Mine had a different issue that took at most 2 minutes to fix after nearly 4 hours installing tha Windows Creators Update.

Due to WannaCry ransomware had to run update assistant to get latest patches. It upgraded Windows 10 to 10.0.15063. No problem there.

ChiefArchitect would not open complaining about two DLLs: vcomp140.dll and msvcp140.dll claiming c:\windows\system32\vcomp140.dll image is invalid or corrupt.

This issue was related to update assistant upgraded these 64 bit DLLs with 32 bit versions.

To solve place 64bit versions into your

    C:\Program Files\Chief Architect\Chief Architect Premier X* (64 bit)\ folder.

  5. Randy, this is not a difficult task.

    Open your plan

    1) Turn the "Roof, Planes " layer on.

    2) Connect roof planes

    3) Select each plane of this porch gable and set same height as a fascia height of your main roof. In this case it is 110 7/16"

    fasciaconnected.thumb.jpg.1c091ac34ba9efe3902a75df8a65e44d.jpg

    4) Select planes at the ridge and use "2" to connect them.

I am not 100% sure what ceiling you intend to put.

If you check with the room porch DBX.

You ceiling height is set at 169". That will create a nice exposed vault.

If you want a flat ceiling you need to set it to something like 96"

  6. Why does moving a door label, fixture label, etc. in an elevation view force a rebuild? I would think a label could be treated like CAD objects - they simply "overlay" the model and only require a screen refresh - not an entire model rebuild.

Because sometimes it is too difficult to figure-out an impact on view when generic multi-facet -object moved from place A to place B. It is much easier to invalidate the area and call repaint.

The trick is normally to minimize the impacted area of repaint. CA ( Dermot?) previously stated that they already use numerous optimizations of this process.

  7. CA Material List is not very good. I posted countless times. Saying this...

You probably can define multiple materials "Concrete-300psi - 2- #5rebar - cont" material types..

    Go into components

Uncheck "use" existing rebars, create [add] general  category accessories your own rebars set measurements per ft.

  8. It works in RichText, but painful.

    1) I suggest enable EnableHexNumpad in the registry, so you can use ALT+x

    2) Try in the wordpad type:

    C0<ALT-X>.

Result can be pasted into ChiefArchitect rich text field.

    3) Here is UTF table with al the values.

I agree with what Alaskan_Son said. There is also the suggestion forum here, ask for standard Text fields to support Unicode. ÀÆ

  9. First

have you experienced same crashes with x8?

Verify Windows, I would run repairs

    1) sfc /ScanNow

    2) DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:repairSource\install.wim

I would also check the video drivers... If you have accelerator card and not Intel built-in

    a) Make sure that the drivers are updated

b ) You are set to use accelerated hardware

  10. It is all in the eyes of beholder. Some people love partial / half pitch, some hate it. It adds a little cost and wind resistance.

Partial hip is created by specifying on the gable wall / roof upper pitch.

Dutch hip, I create them by adding opening (hole in the ceiling platform ), adding attic wall to go threw the hole and fixing / adding roof planes. 40 seconds tops.

  11. > I want to do an enlarged plan of the kitchen.

I do not know what that means... Your plans are always in the live scale, when you send data to layout, in the layout  you "enlarge" by specifying 1/2" - 1' or 1"  - 1'.

If you want elevation cameras to show a wall or kitchen island - you create them.

  12. Not everyone has ESSET antivirus, so I do not know if Mark suggestions will work for you...

But if your windows 10 behaves weird [other than normal weird], run from the elevated command prompt

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
