The software checks for internet every launch. If no internet is available, it just launches in offline mode. It can do this for 14 consecutive days before you will need to reactivate online again.
The issue that spurred all this is that our server encountered a problem on on part of the system. The software would still launch but it had to time out on the primary server before it attempted to access the secondary address.
Yesterday, if you waited for that timeout the program would eventually launch.
We are adjusting that timeout, and will come up with a plan to make that timeout less likely to be necessary in the future.

chiefarchitect.com is back online.
-
chiefarchitect.com seems to be experiencing problems. We are working on it and will update this thread as soon as we find the issue.
-
The only documentation we have for it now is here:
https://roomplannersoftware.com/help/
We are working on revamping the website soon. Just waiting for Apple to approve the new 4.0 version.
I believe there are also some videos on our youtube channel:

Oh, and also, there is a RoomTalk forum here:
-
There is a nice selection here:
If I get time I may go through and create some textures from these images.
-
Also, there are some flagstone textures here:

You mainly need to make sure you have the right site. If you clicked on something from a search page, then you may have been redirected to another site.
This is the direct link to that site and it seems clean. Passes virus checks too.

Try it in a 3D view, instead of floor plan view. The program may be selecting the base below the wall cabinet. In a 3D or elevation view, you can click on the wall cabinet.
Also, you can insert appliances into cabinets through the cabinet specification dialog.
-
Another way, which might save time in larger designs, is to select 'Edit> Reset to defaults' and choose 'Wall top heights' and 'Wall bottom heights'. You can select the scope as well, all floors or just the current floor.
-
You can block them as an architectural block or convert them into a symbol as Mick mentioned:
-
Try going to 'Edit> Preferences> Reset Options'.
Click 'Reset Side Windows'.
Then relaunch the program.
-
When you click 'Library> Update Catalogs/Install Core Content' it only checks for updates.
To toggle the library browser, you will need to select 'View> Library Browser'.
-
Can you attach a screen capture of what you see in your library browser please? That's usually the place to start.
-
Is that possible ? I thought only the individual folders or Objects within the User Library could be exported one by one...
If you shift-select all folders and objects in the User Catalog, you can export everything at once and save it into a single .calibz file.
Same principle is covered here:
-
I would recommend exporting the User Catalog to a .calibz file.
Then you can import it on the laptop.
This will ensure that you don't lose any referenced files along the way.
-
You will need their login credentials to access plans on their account.
There is no sharing option in Room Planner yet.

Both Chief Architect Premier and Interiors can ray trace.
Here's a little more info on Ray Tracing in general:

This Knowledgebase article outlines the process for doing this in the software:
-
Sometimes the material can cause that but another possibility is to try a DAE(Collada) file. It's Blender's default export/import format and Chief imports them pretty well. It also triangulates the mesh during export so Chief has an easier time reading in the faces.
-
By default it is stored in Documents under the Chief Architect X6 Data directory.
-
The angle is usually the reason it does that.
I see it most commonly on plans with slightly less than perfectly straight walls or trim.
-
Kirk, your effort at getting us a stainless steel material/texture kind of got lost in all the Corona discussion. I really appreciate you attempting to do this for us and I am looking forward to trying it.
Guilty as charged!
yes, thanks Kirk!
Thanks I appreciate it. Again, let me know what you might change about it or if it works so I can forward it to our content team.

The wall specification dialog has a preview of the wall to the right and you can rotate that around to see the interior or exterior side.
-
You need to restore the default material for the room:
http://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00586/
At some point you used the material painter on the room and that overrides everything. Reset it to the defaults and the shower walls should look normal again.

It's always been this way, but ideally, you would only see this if you were offline for more than 2 weeks. In this case a server issue caused multiple people to see a delay at the same time, but they were never truly offline, they just needed to wait longer to see Chief launch. However, the timeout is 5min. so understandably, most people assumed the program was locked up. So, in short, we do have a backup in place, it just takes the program 5min. until it will try the backup option.
We'll be looking into this for future releases.
