  1. Kirk, since you asked.....

Something like the Corner Boards tool to apply the battens to the wall (3/4" x 2" at 12" oc is common but a set of defaults would be appropriate).  Spacing is really based on the size of the Boards, so if 1x8 boards are being used then the spacing would be 8".  If 1x12 boards are being used then the spacing would be 12".  The battens should stop at window casings and aprons as well as at door casings.

The advantage of such a tool would be that shadows would be cast by the battens depending on the sun angle rather than an arbitrary picture used as a texture where the shadows might be opposite of what the sun angle would dictate..

Well, unfortunately there is no real easy way to get it to wrap windows and doors...

But, you can do this with a molding line or the standard room molding polyline and a custom board and batten modling profile. Here is one I whipped up based on your 1x8 scenario.

  3. In my example I simply drew a truss into an existing roof. So the truss was generated by the roof as Scott had hinted.

This means modifying the truss directly affects how the roof interacts. In my example the roof had raised to fit the new purliin/battens without me needing to do any additional leg work.

  4. It looks like the ones that I saw on their site are in 3D DWG format.

You can import these into Chief but this format doesn't support textures so they will be colorless to start out.

  5. For my own edification....why does the program default to no time limit on Ray Tracing? When in fact it will NEVER finish the Ray Trace? Why not have it default to a minimum limit?

    Just asking

You can setup your own Ray Trace profile and save it as your default ray trace profile and include it in your default template for new plans. :)

  6. Kirk, I too am having this issue along the Raytrace taking too long.  I understand that to reduce the time I can save just the area that I want to Raytrace and delete everything else but doesn't that negate the point.  I am doing a simple kitchen Raytrace no Photo mapping and after 10 passes or 10 min. it still has not completed the Raytrace.

As Dan_Park and Alaskan_Son have mentioned the ray tracer defaults to 'No Limit' so be sure to click the Stop Ray Trace option at some point.  :)

  7. If this is hardware related it is usually a consistent problem not hit and miss. I've seen this in some cases where the file is in a shared folder or external location.

Otherwise if it's an issue with just one plan there maybe something that only gets triggered by a specific action.

  8. No worries. I have yet to reproduce any lock up using the default hight quality settings when using these materials except when I am in your plan. So the backup entire plan should ensure that we get all of the data in your file and the system info will help give us an idea of the environment we are dealing with.

  9. This does not appear to be related to the stone materials.

I replaced all the stone materials I could find and reproduced the same problem.

My guess is there is something in the plan that is hanging up on caustics. You won't really see them in an outdoor scene anyway so no loss in quality if you turn them off for now.

I would do a backup entire plan and open a new support center ticket and include your system information as well.
