From the IRC commentary regarding this,

 It is becoming more common for residential kitchens to
resemble commercial kitchens, both aesthetically and
functionally. As a result, much larger-capacity range
hoods are being installed which aggravates the
already existing problem of a lack of adequate makeup
air for all exhaust systems in the dwelling. Homes typically
suffer multiple ills because of indoor negative
pressures caused by an imbalance of exhaust air to
makeup air. The problem is that air is being removed
from the dwelling faster than air can leak back into the
building by infiltration through cracks, gaps and flaws
in the thermal envelope/air barrier. The typical home
relies solely on infiltration for makeup air, and homes
are being built much more airtight than in the past.
Compounding this issue is the trend for much larger
exhaust fans. The resulting pressure imbalance problem
is a very real safety concern.

I don't know why but when I change the structure depth of the offending roof to 7 1/4" it fixes the problem.

I would think option B is best, but you would have to be sure that the anchor bolt is in the middle third of the sill plate. R403.1.6.

Regarding the fire protection for floors, you are correct but only if you label your detail to show a plan reviewer that.

Hi Alan, For the upper exterior walls in climate zone 5 yes. I would have to look in the code if the location for this detail is in another climate zone.

The crawl space does not indicate that it is conditioned it shows that it has a vapor barrier only. Therefore, the floor insulation is required.

Also, I did not notice that the I joists are not fire protected as is required by R302.1.3

If I was to review this detail as a code official, (applies prescriptively only) You didn't state which code this detail is drawn to. IRC sections quoted 

1. There is no vapor barrier shown. if the R-21 is kraft faced say so.  R702.7

2. There is no sill seal between the foundation and the treated sill plate. TABLE N1102.4.1.1 The junction of the foundation and sill plate shall be sealed

3. The stone over the footing must be 6" over the top of the footing. R405.1

4. The foundation wall needs horizontal rebar per TABLE R404.1.2(1)

Don't remove the frame Marlem just change the width to 0. Then you can specify a material of your choice

From the reference manual,

Note: If no Framing Reference Markers exist in your plan, the point at 0,0 is used as the Framing Reference location for joists, while the framing for roof planes and walls generate relative to their parent object.

Is this what you are looking to do?

I am thinking that you should do this with a crown molding that is lowered from the ceiling. Do you need help in doing that?

Would like to see how others do things too Gene. This would be a good one for suggestions

Using the way that Michael suggested works very well. These are the settings I used while trying it out.

I forgot to put it in but obviously you would need fire blocking in the walls surrounding the lowered ceiling areas

Patty, this is how I would create what you are doing using shelf ceilings in the lowered areas. There are many ways to accomplish things in Chief, this is just my way of

creating a chase area for ductwork. Bob
