  1. Got it!

Used option in standard window dialogue.

Gothic Arch...was able to reflect the arch vertically. I couldn't cut a flat at the bottom, but it came out very cool.

    My client will love it.

Thanks again for all the help.

    :)

Yes after you create the window "Symbol" then open the Symbol DBX and under the 3D tab rotate about the Y axis. If everything is perfectly symmetrical you will only have to make one window "Symbol" and then you can open the window DBX and "Reverse Symbol" for opposite side.

  3. You may be able to create a symbol of the side windows by modeling them in a more manageable (for CA) position and then rotating 90 deg once they are made.

Unless I'm unaware of something, you're not able to rotate windows.

    What am I missing?

So, I was able to create an odd shaped window. and I can create molding polyline to follow my custom shape.

I'm not sure if there's a way to get the program to build the wall to suit the odd shape. I get only a rectangular opening, which it seems I will need to fill around my window with Polyline solids to match wall materials.

I'm having a little difficulty with generating the window symbol correctly, in that the Glass portion which I'm creating ends up sticking out of the wall and appears to be about 6" thick. I'm sure there's an offset somewhere that I'm missing.....

Any help? I think if I can take care of the offset issue, I should be able to work around the program's limitations.

    Thanks again for your advice.

  5. I can create a symbol from a 3-D object & call it a window.....that's cool.

I can't seem to create the window, while at the same time, requiring the wall to follow my window profile.

I've not spent time learning to create symbols. Before I spend more time headed this direction, will Chief Architect allow me to do this?

I need to be able to create an odd shaped window, using spline tool, arcs, straight edges, at the top, bottom or sides of the window. Is this a possibility?

Super busy right now & don't have much time to waste.

Thanks for all your helpful comments.

  6. Hi,

    Currently using X7:

I have a need to create custom windows for a client with whom I'm currently working.

I do not believe that I can accomplish what's needed by utilizing the available options within Chief.

I don't believe that I've ever heard the answer.

Sure that this is probably simple for someone,.....just not me...

    Thanks.
