  1. Set point, as center of a 4' radius, 4' in from outside surface of rail.

Stopped my straight rails to create the 4' curved rail within 90 degrees.

I'm thinking I must be misaligning something.....anyone else figure this out already?

    Thanks for your great wisdom.

  2. Thanks again,

    I'm mainly single-family residential.

Working across state lines, rather than making sure my drawings are code-compliant, I'm looking more at the tax laws and business licensing aspect.

I think I have the code part pretty well figured, and can hire local professionals to accomplish the unmanageable.

I just want to know what I'm getting into, before I get into it.

If I travel to another state, sit down with a client, design their home, return to my home state, draw the plans......I believe I'm supposed to have business license in the other state, where I'm drawing the plans for, as well as license in my home state.....and what about tax laws?....do I only report in my home state?...or do I need to report the income earned in the state where the job is...I just want to be certain of reg's before making decisions....

    Thanks,

  3. Created plan with siding material typical to all exterior walls.

Painted siding material with a darker brown to simulate (E)stain.

Upper portion of wall which separates interior rooms, but is visible from exterior, will not accept the application of the stain.

I'm thinking that it must have something to do with the fact that the program may not be recognizing it as an exterior wall(?)

    Anybody have a fix?

    Thanks.

  4. So,

I've got dormer wall. Toward the rear of the dormer, the wall an interior wall, i.e., drywall...

Where this wall continues above the roof plane, I'd like to show siding, as opposed to drywall.

I figured I'd just use the wall material region feature, to change out the materials....not so fast...

In cross section view, I created the area that I wanted to change....then I was left an area of wall with no wall covering & no way to find the

polyline, to adjust it. Checked layers dialogue...

Tried deleting & rebuilding the wall. Cutout area is still there...what am I doing wrong?

    Thanks!

There was a thread awhile back about this problem. Mine was cabinet labels. Cabinets in another room would show on the elevations. You could not select them, turn them off, etc. I resorted to using "whiteouts" to cover them up. I believe Chief's response was, "Don't use the SAM method for plans." I never understood how deleted cabinets could have an affect on the new cabinet elevations using the SAM method.

Not familiar with SAM method... what am I missing?

    Thanks for your reply!

  6. Looking to sub out finalization of my plans.

    San Francisco Bay Area, North.

Fine, working with someone out of the area, but it needs to work.....

    Currently running X8

I'm good with getting everything to concept-approved stage.

Mostly single family residential, new, addition & remodel.

Getting bogged down in completion, i.e., adding notes, details, making sure everything is pretty, on the Layouts, while I should be meeting with new clients who I'm turning away right now. Need someone who can take my plans, layout templates, details, and notes & finish out for me, according to my standards. I've got a certain way I do it & I'm hoping to find someone willing to do it this way. :)

Been real small business, want to keep it that way, but also tired of turning away work, while trying to meet schedule deadlines.

Have you tried the "Chief Architect Save  As PDF" to see if the results are the same?  It usually gives me the best results. However there is still an issue that they are working on but not sure if it is the same as what you are experiencing. Could you post a sample?

    Did it!

    Thanks!

  9. Problem,

After printing to pdf w/ pdf995 print driver, I reviewed the plan set.

Strange varying line weight, half-way through elevation, or plan views, the line weight shifts......

Thought it was something having to do with print driver, so upgraded to most recent. (No change)

I've got quite a number of active line drawings sent to layout. Is it just too much for chief?

Has anyone else experienced/found a fix, for this?

    Thanks in advance,
