  1. Any suggestions as best to do a perforated mesh awning?  I tried drawings a symbol, but 20,000 holes just about stalled my programme! I think my computer would shut down if I tried to create it in 3D with shadowing. Is there a premade symbol somewhere? I am hopeful of a material that would cast a reasonable but transparent shadow. Should I do something with heavy tinted glass to cast a transparent shadow?

    Any suggestion?

  2. Somehow in the passed of have created a 2D block and added it to my 3D symbol. In fact I did it successful last week.

Below is the sample of the imported 3D symbol which only generates a vague sink outline. I want to add the more detailed 2D cad view on the right to the symbol.image.png.5ef9177c4e73a1df7d4199560557e6ab.png

Below is the basin symbol I created last week, by adding a better detailed 2D view. The original basin symbol I imported only had a vague 2D plan view, until I edited it. As far as I am aware I used the method I described earlier to do this. Obviously not...or it not working this time

I have not found anything on the training video.

I did learn this method...a method... more than 3 years ago (could be 5 years!), but that forum blog has been deleted.

  3. I am trying to create a new sink symbol by adding a separate more detailed 2D block. However, my new 2D CAD Block is not listing the CAD Block Management file, so I cannot link it to the symbol.

I have produced a new 2D cad block by selecting the CAD detail and then pressing the 'Make CAD Block' icon.  The cad block has been created successfully and renamed appropriately. When I do this I understood the cad block is automatically generated into the Cad Block Management file. However my newly generated CAD block  in not listed. I have also tried adding the cad block to the library, but this added the detail to the CAD Block Management file either..

    What am I missing?

    Help!

  4. I'll take my previous post back. (Shame when it posted the deed is done...no taking back, apart from retreating & exposing my great chief skill...or lack therefore). There seems to have been a delayed regeneration of the road 3D view. Something happened since making the initial post. The kerb hasn't disappeared but has ramped/ feathered to the connecting driveway. Not quite what I want, but with a little more manipulating I should get there.

  5. I have used the curved stair tool to draw a spiral stair case. Is there an adjustment to produce a round outer circumference instead of the polygon configuration? Current view, as attached below shows straight edged at each tread which produces an polygon rather than a circle.

  6. Can the bifold doors display the opening indicator line as standard for hinged doors? Is it also possible to show automatic opening indicators for sliding doors. In the case of sliding doors the opening indicators would be arrows and perhaps F for fixed panel. ??

  7. Is there a method for automatically generating a wall framing with double 90x45 studs @ 450 centers. I know I can produce  90x90 studs at 450 and then manually changed the studs to 45 and then duplicate the studs, but is the an auto system. My project current project only involves 1 wall so manual alternation is not a big issue, but if I were to do this for a whole house the manual adjustment would be quite involved.

  8. Is there a method to draw a fence over a retaining wall? Typically drawings a wall over a wall deletes the primary wall.

The retaining wall is a 350 thick limestone wall and the fence over is a SS post and rail with horizontal SS cable infill. The balustrade is positioned central to the wall

  9. Does anyone know a drawing app for a tablet that uses the camera to plot walls in an existing house with reasonable site measurement capacity. Years ago my son showed me something on his apple tablets that seemed to do a reasonable job. He's not a drafty so it may not have been all that helpful.(My son can't remember!). That particular app was about 8-10 years ago, so I'm hopeful there has been better developments since. Maybe I'm a dreamer or just too hopeful, but it's there anything out there that anyone can recommend?

By the way I wrote a request for chief users recommendations for the Microsoft surface book 3. Very helpful comments. I've since purchased it, thus the interest in the above. It's brilliant (1TB hard drive, 32bg RAM i7 etc; one machine brilliant as tablet; laptop or desktop)

Any thought about the drawing app?

  10. Thanks folks. Look like it is manually producing the vent in sketchup at the desired pitch and placing at the correct level. Not as automatic as I'd hoped but the same as I have been doing for the past few years. Placing the vent on the ridge is a lot simpler requiring only one symbol to suit all building. Position the vent on the run of the roof pitch requires a different symbol for every difference pitch. No big deal I am quite content with the overall automation of Chief
