  1.

Guards are in place to prevent accidental falls... that is how building code interprets Guards. So if you take IRC code as an example the guard height minimum is 36" if there is 30" or more drop... the stair code specifies that the handrail has to be min 34-38" meaning that the handrail and top of the guard can be one and the same.

Now if you look at IBC, the guard should be min 42" so if there is a 30" drop you need to have both the guard @42" and handrail @34-38"

  2. The railing should be sturdy and not wobble. The way they do 200LB test on the railing to make sure it's load compliant is they put railing under 200LB  pressure and they release the load 24HR later and the railing should return to its original position with 1/4" leeway.

If you want to do a quick test on the railing I use Pocket Penetrometer.

  3. Thanks, fellas! This is so confusing, I can build a house in my sleep but I can't figure out these fk gadgets. I will stop by tomorrow and talk to Geeksquad and see what they can come up with.

@Kbird, when I installed EVGA and it didn't work, I called them and the guy told me that a 3.0 will not work with a 2.0 motherboard. You and other people saying otherwise.

When I was buying my PC this where the video card choice options at the time:

    GeForce GT 530 (2 GB)
    GeForce GT 545 (3 GB)
    GeForce GTX 550i (1 GB)
    GeForce GTX 580 (1.5 GB)
    Radeon HD 6570 (1 GB)
    Radeon HD 6670 (1 GB)
    Radeon HD 6850 (1 GB)

So since you guys saying x10 needs at least 4GB video card I'm trying to find one with the min of 4GB that will work with my PC. I will try Geek Squad see what they say.

Thanks again for all the help, I will let you know what happens when it happens.

With that said, I don't know why I get that bullseye effect only in CA, I use Thea rendering program with SketchUp and I don't have any issues at all, has to do something with the rendering engine.

  4.

Well, it sucks, got the new card and it's not working on my PC, because I have a Card slot: PCI-e 2.0x16 slot going to try this one PNY NVIDIA Quadro K1200 - ( VCQK1200DP-PB) this one also 4G bites, waiting for some info. I hope this one will work.

  5. Thanks for all the advice. This is what I got, EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 SC GAMING, ACX 2.0 (Single Fan), 6GB GDDR5, DX12 OSD Support (PXOC), 06G-P4-6163-KR will give it a test run when it gets here.

  6. Hello fellas!

Maybe you can help me out here before I end up with some junk video card. Thinking to swap my Video card since I been having issues with bullseye effect, etc.

ASUS GeForce GTX 1060 3GB Dual-Fan OC Edition Graphics Card (DUAL-GTX1060-O3G)

Is this a good video card and do you think this will solve bullseye effect and what you think in general is this good card for Chief Architect?

    Thanks in advance!

  7. I don't have this issue ( Ambient Occlusion ) with any rendering software like Thea Renderer, etc and I never had this issue with any other software except x10 Version, not sure why. I hope they get a fix in the next update if one is coming out anytime soon, for now, I turned everything off and do all the rendering in Sketchup.

  8. Richard, we have the same rule, it's the nation wide code requirement.

    R502.4 Joists under bearing partitions.
Joists under parallel bearing partitions shall be of adequate size to support the load.
Double joists, sized to adequately support the load, that are separated to permit the
installation of piping or vents shall be full depth solid blocked with lumber not less
than 2"  in nominal thickness spaced not more than 4' on center. Bearing partitions perpendicular to joists shall not be offset from supporting
girders, walls or partitions more than the joist depth unless such joists are of sufficient
size to carry the additional load.

  9. Right-click on the file and select open with CAX10 and check mark always open with that file. When you installed X10 you probably missed specifying to associate the files with x10, if you didn't do that x9 still the default program associated with these file extensions.

You can also set that up at this point in the default program settings by selecting the file extension and assigning a default program to handle that extension.

  10. Mick, Thanks!

I think the issue is the crown is still there when you drop the light the crown blends with the ceiling color and if I zoom in close and move the light closer to the edge of the ceiling I can barely see the crown.

1st picture no light at all.

3d picture light moved closer to the molding, you can see the crown but barely

4th Picture same as 3d, only molding color changed to Cherry.

On some plans, you can see better, like the sample you posted. If I remove the lights from that plan and re-add them they will work fine, you can see the molding but not as good as you would like (profile wise, it gets to flat)

I don't think it's my video card, I do have AMD and keep the drivers updated, and I use rendering in SketchUp much more powerful engines than in CA and I don't have any issues, especially with the bullseye effect, speaking of which, if you watch latest YouTube video they did on the Kitchen Design, she has the same bullseye effect.
