  1. Thank you. I thought that was it but then when you put them side by side the catalog shutter does not show the louvers the same.
  2. Where is the louvered shutter standard window treatment? In window specifications under shutters and selecting louvered, there is a shutter. Where can one find that as a stand alone shutter? I don't seem to find it in any of the catalogs. I would like to use that on a bay window. When adding shutters to the bay window the shutter only displays straight which at a 45 degree angle goes through the house.
  3. I've been asked to draw a lot of detail lately. A house has wide interior plantation shutters, I see this a lot. There are 5 different sizes of windows in the house. There is no shutter that has wide slats for interior treatment in Chief. I found a pretty nice plantation shutter in the warehouse. It needs to have wider top rail, mid rail, bottom rail. I can make those wider but to do the all the slats need to be redistributed. That means modifying the shutter for 5 different sizes and evenly redistributing the slats in sketchup, exporting, importing to chief to place on the inside of the windows as an object. Is there a tutorial or post to tell me how to make a plantation shutter in chief that I can use as an interior shutter that will resize itself for this and ongoing projects? plantation shutter.skp
  4. rlackore, Thank you. Nice answer and just what I was looking for.
  5. I've only used chief for 6 months, but I guess I am tired of searching for hours then ending up with something that is close instead of presenting my clients with exact. It seems like so many Chief related items and processes are almost there but just misses. Customizing doors in Archicad is so nice. I want my models to look like they should not look like I missed it by a bit. So, I am ready to take the plunge into making my own items to reuse.
  6. Sounds like you know what to do. But just a couple more minutes of your time with more detailed instructions would help the people coming behind you know what you are talking about.
  7. Is there a tutorial or steps someplace that explain the process of modifying an existing door to a different config? I need Door E11 to have a solid top a little different. I need Door E09 to have different lites and Door P05 to have even sized panels. I want to modify these and put them back in chief so they have all the attributes, swings, etc of the stock doors.
  8. Where did you find that plantation shutter?
  9. Joe. Let's try to answer questions on the forum in complete sentences and give the person a complete solution. This will save people time and make the forums more helpful. If you have a solution, share it.
  10. Hoff, your going to love the new material maker in x17
  11. Thanks Hoff! Is seems that CMU concrete block would be a staple for Chief material since a LOT of foundations are built with block. But I don't find it in concrete or masonary
  12. Does CA have an 8" Concrete block material to make a foundation?
  13. I've reframed the roof several times trying to get the window to frame. The window is in an attic wall.
  14. Wondering how to get a window to frame where a truss is. I understand the truss is in the right place. When I place the window, I thought maybe CA would frame around it.
  15. Seems like this overbuilt porch roof should have the shoe plates flat. I checked overbuilt on the roof planes. Not sure why these show up this way?
  16. Thanks Chris. I was trying the elevation. The text does not show up in floor plan view as it is on the side of the building
  17. It really is terrible to see so many comments about work a rounds in sketchup or other programs about how to do something when Chief is as if not more expensive and should have everything a person needs to design and build plans and 3d baked into the program. As users, we must start holding Chief responsible to give us the tools we need.
  18. Making a sign for a commercial building. I used the bonus 3D text. I placed the letters and resized them in an elevation. However, I cannot find a way to align them to the bottoms of each other or distribute them evenly. In fact, I can't figure out how to align anything or distribute in elevation. I even looked for align along a path. It would seem one would want to get items especially text lined up on the bottoms and distrubuted. I am sure one could make the text in sketchup or some other program and bring it in and la, la, la. However, this should be able to be accomplished in Chief easily. Solutions?
  19. Using the bay window tool, I need two double hung mulled windows for the front window. Seems straight forward, but I have not found a way to place a second window next to the front window to mull them. See picture. Is the only way to accomplish that to explode the bay window and place the window and mull it? I realize I could build a bay window out of walls and place the windows, but would really like to use the bay window tool.
  20. It seems like Chief would have a great looking set of American Trees and plants. Common ones that are found in many yard in the US. This way you could use the common flowers that landscapers use in 3d. Oak: Known as the national tree of the United States Ash: A common hardwood tree in North America Cherry: A common hardwood tree in North America Maple: A common hardwood tree in North America Poplar: A common hardwood tree in North America Red Maple Loblolly Pine Sweet gum douglas fir Quaking Aspen sugar maple bossom fir flowering dogwood lodgepole pine white maple basswood elm hackberry etc Bushes Low Scape Mound® Aronia North Pole® Arborvitae Pugster Blue® Butterfly Bush Sprinter® Boxwood Smooth Hydrangea etc. flowers Rose Chrysanthemum Gerbera Poppy Tulip Hibiscus Sunflower Lilac Marigold Lamium/Dead-nettles Datura/Devil's Trumpet Columbine
  21. This roof has some issues and the as it was built it is not perfect, but here are the steps I used: To create a saltbox roof In a blank plan, navigate to Build> Wall> Straight Exterior Wall , then click and drag out 4 walls to create a basic 30' x 40' structure. Use the Select Objects tool to click on the left 30' wall and select the Open Object edit tool. On the Roof panel of the Wall Specification dialog that opens, select the Full Gable Wall option under the Roof Options section, then click OK. Note: You can also use the Change to Gable Wall(s) edit tool to convert hip walls to gable walls without having to open the Wall Specification dialog. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 to make the opposite wall a Full Gable Wall as well. Select Build> Floor> Build New Floor , and in the New Floor dialog that opens, choose to Derive new 2nd floor plan from the 1st floor plan, then click OK. On the newly created 2nd floor, Move the top horizontal 40' wall inwards so that its distance from the bottom horizontal wall changes from 30' to 20' With this wall still selected, click the Open Object edit tool. On the Roof panel of the Wall Specification dialog that opens, select the Knee Wall option under the Roof Options section, then click OK. A knee wall's height is defined by the roof above, not the ceiling height. If Auto Rebuild Roofs is not enabled, navigate to Build> Roof> Build Roof from the menu, check the Build Roof Planes box, then click OK to see the changes reflect in your plan. Article Found here https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00119/automatically-creating-a-saltbox-roof.html Next, create the front gable. The more correct looking gable might be built using the Gable/Roof Line tool to automatically generate a gable above the bearing wall of a hip roof plane. However this particular roof goes right the edge and so I used manual roof planes for the front gable. https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/6124/gable-roof.html?playlist=95 Finally, I place a dormer and modified it to the correct size: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/6131/automatic-dormer-tools.html?playlist=95
  22. Thank you Gene. I will keep trying. I also have a interior wall 20' 6" from the back wall that must be interfering with the roof. I am to here at this point, missing something that is not letting the siding go up to the roof.
  23. Rich, Understood. I have spend a several hours and back and forth. I posted to get some help. I can't figure out how to get both the front gable and gull wing and all of it to show up together. Once I get the gull wing I cannot figure out the gable and vice versa. As you can see I cannot seem to get the gable tall enough for the second floor. I am back to this with each of those roofs the right measurements. It is a 38x32 and the roofs without the overhangs are 16 on back, 10', and 11. The front roof is 3/12
  24. I have not figured it out yet. I can't seem to get the gull wing to land on the interior wall right and the gable is not tall enough.
