  1. I would enjoy learning what other have found is the best Font and Size for Plan and Layouts that is not Chief Blueprint. I need to change all text to a font and sizes that works for Rich Text and also keeps regular text looking the same as the rich text. Not only text but dimensions also. Maybe there is a way to do this globally so that it does not have to be done for every single dimension set and each text set?

  4. I don't really understand why there is an option for rich text and regular text. However, I decided to automate my plan square footage information using the polyline schedule methods from this When placing a schedule in layout it does not give much look option and rich text is not an option. I would like to get the text in the top box (schedule) to look like the bottom box which was the manually placed rich text. The rich text looks so much better. It's the same font same weight but looks so different. Is there a way to get schedule text to look as good as rich text?
  5. The grade level needs to be 36" below the bottom of the floor joists but it seems to pick a random place in the middle of the floor.
  6. I am struggling with some foundation settings and cannot seem to figure it out. I need exterior footings to extend a minimum of 12 inches below undisturbed ground to reach the undisturbed soil. Then the grade (ground level) Then 36" of CMU block (because it is in a flood zone and required) Then the sill Then the floor structure 12 5/8 Then 1/2 of floor covering The first and second floor is 10' (finished ceiling 120") I set my terrain perimeter to -56 5/8" at contour 0 but I don't think that has anything to do with what the story pole dimensions say. I must have one or more of the definitions wrong below because the story pole dimentions show my grade and other wrong. These are the definitions I use: Floor above = the top of the second floor or the ceiling height of first floor plus the floor structure (12" or 16") Ceiling = the top of the floor sheathing to the top of the ceiling drywall Finished ceiling = top of floor material to bottom of ceiling drywall Ceiling Below = the bottom of the floor joist (top of sill plate) to grade (level of dirt) Stem Wall = top of block wall to top of footings (no sill plate) Floor below is the grade. Set the floor below at the depth you want from the bottom of the floor joist to the grade. Set the ceiling below to be how much you want the foundation to show above the grade. Set the Stem Wall height to 12" The stem wall height is the height of the concrete block wall from the top of the footer to the bottom of the floor joist. In Virginia Beach, exterior footings must generally extend a minimum of 12 inches below undisturbed ground to reach the undisturbed soil, and also to or below the local frost line, which is 12 inches in this area.
  7. I am able to display only living area, porches and garage. Just trying to figure out what I should provide at a minimum.
  8. I saw in one example the %area.to_sq_m.round(2)% formula was in the polyline custom object fields. In the other one I did not see a physical formula anywhere.
  9. Thanks. Helpful. I am guessing one would draw the polyline around the area they want or "make room polyline" Drag that off to the side of the drawing, or on a separate layer. Include in schedule, and do that for each area they want included. At the end a person would have a bunch of polyline shapes like you have each drawn from the plan and dragged off to the side or on a separate layer that can be turned on and off? Should I have that formula %area.to_sq_m.round(2)% in macros someplace or is that information known?

  11. I have a box in my plans that I would like to populate with square footage for the different areas listed. It would seem that this is common and there would be a tool that made this effortless. Yet, I think I need to figure out custom Macros? If anyone has a great way of doing this with easy automation I would enjoy learning it. I will even pay someone to jump online and help me get this working.
  12. I need the roof ridge where the two roofs join to be fascia like the picture. I am not sure how to accomplish this. Would I change the roof ridge in settings to a facia like material?
  13. I have a gambrel room with the first pitch at 40:12 and the second 6:12. Using manual roof plans, I drew the 40:12 on the first floor and the 6:12 pitch on the second floor. However, I need to show an eve. but I cannot figure out how to get the facia to move out from the wall to get the soffit to show. I tried boxed eves but it is not a box eve. Any help on getting the soffit on this roof like the pictures?

  15. Yes, I used railing. I want a pressure treated fence sitting on the ground around the perimeter. You know, a back yard privacy fence.
  16. Is there an obvious reason an exterior fence would be flying in mid air. It is an exterior fence vs a terrain fence. If I draw a terrain fence it sits on the terrain.
  17. I need to make a plantation shutter and then add it as a window treatment so it will resize with the different sizes of windows. What's the best way to do that?

    Yes Ross, break the roof for it to come through is what I searched many hours for. This article is missing the break the roof for it to come through. https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-03035/creating-a-cupola.html To create the cupola Select Build> Floor> Build New Floor , and in the New Floor dialog that displays, select the radio button next to Make new (blank) plan for the 2nd Floor, then click OK. To display a reference of the walls on the floor below, select Tools> Floor/Reference Display> Reference Display . Select Build> Wall> Straight Exterior Wall and then in clockwise order, draw the walls that define the cupola, creating completely enclosed room. In our example, because there are two Full Gable walls set on the floor below and because the roof is set to automatically rebuild, there are automatically created attic walls to the left and right. For this example, the cupola will have a hip roof using the plan's default pitch, so no changes will be made on the Roof panel of the Wall Specification dialog. With the Select Objects tool active, click the center of the room to select it, and then click Open Object . On the General panel of the Room Specification dialog that opens, select Open Below option using the Room Type drop-down menu. On the Structure panel, change the Ceiling Height to the desired height for the cupola, then click OK. Break the roof for the cupola to come through either by clicking the roof plans and using the break tool or making a hole in the roof. Create a Camera view to confirm that the cupola is building to the correct height. If the roof is not set to automatically rebuild, select Build> Roof> Build Roof , put a check next to Build Roof Planes, then click OK to rebuild the roof. Use the reference display on roof layer to reference the cupola and close the hole in the roof to butt up against the cupola. Use foundation vents to add vents if you need it. If you need to change the cupola height in the future you may need to remove the roof and change the ceiling height, then rebuild the roof. The roof may prevent the height from being changed. If the roof is too high you can change the roof plane height by: To raise or lower a roof plane using the Roof Plane Specification dialog Using the Select Objects tool, click once on a roof plane near one of its edges to select it. Select the Open Object edit tool. On the General panel of the Roof Plane Specification dialog that displays: Lock the Pitch (in12) to keep the pitch of the roof plane the same. Specify the new height for the Ridge Top Height, Baseline Height, or Fascia Top Height. You can also use addition and subtraction in the dialog by using the "+" or "-" signs. Keep in mind that adjusting one of these values will automatically adjust the other values. In this example we have raised the Baseline Height by 12" by adding "+ 12" in the field. Click OK to close the dialog and confirm the changes.
  19. Where can I control the amount of the paint blend transparency? I painted a pine board with green to make it appear like Pressure Treated Yellow Pine, which I think should be a standard color since it is used SO much. I used the blend mode. I get a blend that is a little too green and want to change the amount of color blend.

    Cupolas

    I've read the posts. Create a new blank floor draw the exerior walls, etc. One story house with an A (attic). I created a new 2nd story. Now there is 1 story, 2nd story with the cupola, and an attic. My cupola is stuck in the 2nd floor which looks like the attic. What do I do?
  21. OK I switched to the (Bonus Catalogs / Exterior Shutters / Louvered Double Shutter). They look the same in vector and ray trace but don't show the louvers well in standard. I guess that is the best. Thank you.
  22. Proud of the wall by an inch. Standard View. Louvers are different size. I don't see a louver size setting for the stand alone shutter.
  23. In vector they look like the same finish and I verified that in the materials. In standard view they look different. Also the windowed shutter is 1" louver. But in the stand alone shutter I don't find a louver dimension. No. Just took the shutter and placed it on the building next to the other one that is specified as shutter with the window and they look completely different. Thank you. I thought that was it but then when you put them side by side the catalog shutter does not show the louvers the same.
