  1. I don't want to put it in the window label.  I wanted to use a separate text box with an arrow pointing the the window taking the header info and putting it into the text box.  It would be the same setup as I have in the plan file I attached.  I do greatly appreciate you looking into this in your spare time.

  2. The macro I gave you was just an example for a Ruby attribute named "thickness". To get something like (2) 2x8's or 3-1/2"x7-1/2" it would require a bit more work.

Let me know exactly what you want and I'll see what I can do.

I am looking for it to say 3-1/2" x 7-1/2".  I put it in the suggestions forum, so hopefully CA will see it and add it to X7, whenever it comes out.  Typically, I use just a single 4x or 6x, so for me, the count isn't as critical.

  3. Hopefully I can explain this well enough - I created a macro to get the header size of the window so when I change the header size in the framing tab of the window dialogue box the header label automatically changes. However it shows a decimal instead of fractions.  I tried some variations of other macros I had, but nothing worked.  Any ideas?

  4. I know this is something that most people here do not use....

However, is there anywhere that gives good direction on how material lists and the master lists work?  CA tutorials were not very helpful and I can't find much online that goes into some kind of detail of how they work and goes a little more in detail than the CA videos?

  5. I'm jumping in late here, but I think you could just not call it a garage and change the Floor Height in the Room dbx.  That should resolve the Stem Wall issue.  You can Name the room "Garage" but just not use the "Garage Room Type"

I just tried that, but as soon I as check "floor supplied by room below", I run back into the same issue.

  6. *** looked at the video Scott ......the Problem Jared has showed in the 1st 2minutes of the video ,if I understand his issue correctly.... the stemwall in the garage is 1 1/2" above the stem wall of the house , it builds/built that way when you hit Auto build. I think he wanted 25.5 " stem walls on both the garage and house right? so the concrete will all be the same height.

Close...I want the house and garage to be 24" with a 1.5" sill plate. Not both with .  I used to auto build a FDN to get the walls and auto build the floor framing and get a sill plate on the house and garage.  Now I only get it on the house.  I want it to generate for both house and garage.

  7. Top of the subfloor is "0".  Since I am looking for the SWT to be the same throughout, that is why I have the SWT set at -3/4" for the garage.  However, even when I put in the defaults for the stemwall to be 24" w/ 1.5" sill, the garage shows as 25.5" and not the 24" stem w/ 1.5" sill.  So, I don't have an issue with hung joists...just why there is no sill plate on the garage stemwall when I build the floor framing.

  8. Appreciate the video!  Got a couple of little things that I didn't know.  I didn't on that plan for the sake of time as I was leaving the office.  The thing that was bugging me is that when I autobuild the floor, the sill plate shows on only the stemwalls of the house and not the garage.  I want them to show on the garage also.  However, what I am getting is the garage stemwalls becoming 1.5" taller (the same thickness of the sill).op  It used to be this way and not it doesn't appear to be happening.

Here is a pic of what I am looking for the result of doing "build floor framing" should look like at the garage for me.

  9. Much appreciated!  I remember when I was attempting to do SIP walls, it wouldn't generate due to there not being a "framing material" in the wall, but the walls I have do have it.  Just thinking of any possibility....

  10. The wall alignment is a easy fix....I did a quick plan and didn't notice it.  The issue I am having is the right side of the stem wall (where the garage slab is showing) where it comes up an additional 1.5".  There is to be a sill plate there, but I can't get it to generate.  CA is filling that space with the stem wall making the stem wall a total of 25.5" instead of 24" with the 1.5" sill plate.

  11. OK - I don't know if I am going crazy or simply blind.....

I have a simple box house w/ garage that I attached.  It is has hung joists floor system.  The stem walls are at 25.5" (24" stem wall w/ 1.5" mud plate).  However, when I build floor framing to get the mud plate to show, it only shows on the house and not the garage.  when I take a cross section, the stem wall is shown at 25.5" tall. and no mud plate shown.  I want it to show 24" stem wall and 1.5" mud plate for the whole structure.  I checked my defaults and don't see an issue off hand.  Is my old age catching up with me?

    Untitled 1.plan

  12. I too use the template method.  I have my "detail" plan set up so my title block is on the main plan window and all my details are "CAD Details" within the plan.  I have found doing it this way helps the program operate faster.  I have done it where I had all me details on the main plan window, but the program slowed down.  Once I moved each detail to its own "CAD detail" within the plan, overall performance improved and I haven't dealt with the program slowing down nearly as much.  This also may help to the "downside" of what mydog8it is talking about.  I don't add my details to my library.  With how I have my file organization setup I don't believe it would be feasible.

  13. I to run into this issue from time to time.  tried to replicate the issue with no luck.  it just happens at any point in time.  However, it doesn't just happen with invisible walls for me, it has happened with electrical items and fixtures.  Like Larry says, I just highlight the layout box and open the layer properties box and click ok and it updates fine.  it isn't the end of the world, but it is can be a annoying.

  14. ZMG - First, can you post a .plan file so we can look at it?  Generally, we can figure out things a lot quicker with a .plan file.  However, check the window height.  I have had it before where the window shows on the floor plan, but it has some crazy height where it disappears into another floor.  Not sure why, but it has happened to me on occasion.

  15. I have been using "Transform/Replicate objects" to move items and walls around.  Recently in one of Scott's videos, he showed a "move while dragging" where he clicks and holds on the object and hits "Tab, Tab".  The box that comes up titled "Enter Coordinate".  This box appears to have the same functionality as the "Move" section of transform/replicate objects, but functions differently.  especially if the walls are not horizontal or vertical in plan view it seems.

I would think they would work the same.  I was hoping the "move while dragging" worked the same as it would be a quicker short cut instead of using a hot key to get to "transform/replicate objects" and click on the "Move" checkbox (as I use the "reflect" option often).

I hope I am explaining it clearly and I am struggling to figure out how to explain it clearly for all to understand or if I am missing something for someone to enlighten me to the errors of my ways.

If it doesn't make sense, I may have to make a quick video showing what I am experiencing for it to make sense.  Ultimately, I am trying to cut down on the number of "clicks" as these clicks can add up to a lot of wasted time.  Every second I can save adds up if I can use a quicker hotkey.

    Thanks

  16. Now that I know about this, I have played with it a little and see the potential.  With little technical knowledge on programming....is there a way to simply put a check box for each truss to "show in camera view" or something to that effect?  Similar to "suppress label" on numerous other items?  Then in camera views we can show specifically which trusses we want to show.  Maybe in a view there is a flat bottom chord of a truss and a scissor truss.  Maybe someone will want to show both of those?

I think that would give the ability to remove the feature as CA would like to do, but allows the users to get the end result they we are looking for out of this newly discovered feature.
