Without using the truss base tool to show where the overframe portion needs to be just like using a framing indicator and joist indicator it won't know where to do it.  I am not at my work computer so don't have chief available to look at the specifics though.  I messed with it very quickly in beta but don't have a ton of time in it.

Thanks Ryan, seems to work OK with just a roof plane but the roof plane also seems like it needs to be manually pulled down from its auto build configuration, then over built. I have a feeling the OP (from his plan at least) was expecting the over build to be an auto build function, like I did when I first tried it. Wonder what others have learned.

and/or depending on case need you will also need a "Truss Base".

Apologies but I don't understand the comment? Is there a way to 'over frame' automatically? Knowing Chief that would not be an unreasonable expectation but I can't seem to find the method? Also could not find a 'framing group' for roofs, only for floor and ceilings. Curious have you tried the over frame tool?

  3. The video from Chief skips a step if you've already auto built and auto framed all the roof planes. The underlying roof plane needs to be extended under the new over framed roof planes, then it frames properly. The video doesn't show the framing for the other roof planes but that just needs framing per the build framing tool.

There might be a way to auto frame everything including the over frame and perhaps the smart guys will chime in but I couldn't find it.

hmmmm,  what would you do if you had an extra long span over the garage and needed to change the floor joists from 16" oc to 12" oc?

Even though garages don't typically have floor joists I see what you're saying and I missed it. We can change floor joist sizing and material from the floor dbx but not spacing. Need the bearing lines/walls and a joist direction line as you and others have pointed out. :wacko:

    I use bearing lines/bearing walls.

The OP was asking how to change O.C. spacing for floor framing. Seems much easier and more flexible to change that data in the floor structure of the room. No bearing lines or bearing walls needed.  Just sayin'

I didn't try too hard to find a limit, but I had 12 plans referenced and I was switching between them in the master site plan without trouble.

It is a pretty cool way of working because all the floor plans and 3D views can display the referenced plans (so it looks just like the original plans), but the objects in those referenced plans can't be selected or edited.

To do that, you need to go back to the original referenced plan and make your edits, which will be dynamically displayed in the master plan.

One thing to remember to do would be to draw your referenced plans with the correct offsets from 0,0,0, so that when you reference them in your master plan, they all fit together in the correct locations relative to each other.

This is an interesting idea. I wonder if the master site plan could have very simple floor plan outlines locating each unit and each referenced plan point to point moved into their respective locations then referenced?

  7. How is the roof built? Where/how do he rafters interact with the exterior walls? Do they rest on the outside wall with a birds mouth? How big are the rafters? The baseline will not position the height of the roof and rafters, but you can raise the roofs until the rafters rest on the outside wall the way the structure is actually built.

Try this. With auto build roofs and auto framing on build the roof and raise/lower from ceiling height until the rafters go over the outside of the wall the way it is built. And as always wait for the smart guys to chime in.

It's true.  I was asking about floor framing... I'm familiar with the joist direction tool, but It doesn't appear to allow me to build one room with 2x12s lets say and the rest of the home as 2x10s.  It seems to be a global attribute.  Instead what I did was deleted the framing from the room and drew them in custom myself.

Chief does indeed allow different floor framing per room. Lots of reference videos re: same.

I am working on a pool cabana and using square columns from Chiefs library.

Is there an easy way to modify Chiefs columns ? Chiefs column has a 12" high molding
at the top and bottom of the columns. I would like to reduce them to 4" high. I also would like

to vertically lengthen the panel molding on each side of the column.

I have attached the file I am working on.

    Thanks,

    Mike

You might be able to convert to a symbol then define stretch planes for the areas you want to change. That's a bit over my pay grade but maybe the smart guys can help? Building from scratch is not a bad option as Tommy has suggested.

Nvidia doesn’t include a similar feature in their graphics drivers, but the Nvidia desktop GPU and driver pipeline does actually include a ‘hidden feature’ that works in a very similar way. A tool called ‘novideo_srgb’ can be downloaded here and is discussed in this Reddit thread. Download the latest ‘release.zip’ file and extract the contents to a destination of your choice. Run ‘novideo_srgb.exe’ (Microsoft Defender SmartScreen may flag this as an unrecognised file initially) and click the ‘Clamped’ checkbox. The same EDID data read by the AMD alternative is used and the resulting gamut is extremely similar. The corrections apply universally, including to full screen games and other applications and should apply until you re-open the tool and remove the clamp.

Thanks for the clarification Joe. Will make time to download and experiment.

I got this from Larry Hawes in one of the other forums.  I thought it might be useful information for anyone having troubles with the Colors on some displays when using RTX GPUs.

Basically, the color saturation can be way off the charts when using the RTRT on certain monitors.

In my case I am using a 55" 4K TV as my main display with an NVidea RTX 2060.  Whenever I selected to use a RTRT the color saturation was too strong and so I reverted to Standard rendering and a CPU Ray Trace.  It really made me wonder why I spent all that money for a relatively expensive GPU.

After reading the attached article I downloaded and installed the suggested fix for the NVidea GPU.  Now my RTRT looks a lot better.

I sincerely hope this helps anyone who is having similar problems.

    Thank you Larry.

Nice Joe, so glad that helped. I've been searching through that article for the exact download solution and can't seem to find a specific link. Got one to share? Thanks.

    Couple more Tips......

Set you Terrain Break Transition Distance to 0 for immediate height differences Larry

and s with it centered on the wall..........

And make sure you pull the TR right to the Wall or a hair inside it , so it looks "cleaner"

at the transition and Chief can't take over control for that 1 foot or so to the walls.

NICE - Hope it helps the OP.

Larry,  that has been my approach too, but I feel like there are just layers of old things that have collected over time.  For instance, I never know how many previous versions of Chief I should hang onto before deleting them.

I used to feel that same way but Chief has proven to be extremely reliable and stable (for me at least) and my business model has very little use for older versions. Some folks keep a bunch of older versions so they can help others who have not upgraded but again not my MO. I do continually update and polish my template files as I did today with my Section Views but that's about it.

  14. I take a pretty lazy approach and just hit the "Migrate Everything" button or what ever it's called, then save my existing X13 templates into the X14 data folder, make sure they are used for any new plan or Layout, and carry on. Chief also saves an X13 version of a plan when an X13 plan is first saved in X14 "just in case".
