  1. interesting, I have a plan where when I go to print shows pages 1-10, 12-14 or something like that. I typically will print 1-8, so I type in 1-8. but the next time I print it still shows 1-10, 12-14 in the pages to print

     

    seems to be the case even if the print range is 1-10, and I only print say page 1-5, the next time it is 1-10

  2. I like this idea. only one template to keep up to date. And one could prebuild the sets. I often throw camera images on the layout just for the client to see. the city doesnt care, so today I put the images at the back so I can more easily control the printing.

     

    It would also be nice if CA remembered the last print range

  3. I do not recall seeing it, but I also do electrical last and really never really spend much time on electrical, as I have found they tend to be "aspirational" in nature. I also do not connect the light to the switch in its own room if there is only 1 switch (such as bedrooms). I then really only connect 3 ways, bathrooms, ganged switches

     

  4. that widens it and then it goes underneath the stair, I still then have to disconnect the stair, make the other side of the landing smaller and then reconnect the stair.  speaking of making the other side smaller. how does one do this by setting the dim? everytime I try, it moves the right side of the landing and not the left. I thought the "selected edge" was supposed to move? I can only get the right edge of the landing to move

    when typing in the dim

     

     

  5. as I approach my 75th project in CA some things still elude me.

     

    The upper flight up this stair case is off 1/8" compared to the lower flight at the corner where the landing is. the landing is also off, which then means the left wall cannot be shown properly.

     

    It was built with the L: shape stair tool, but once I start creating walls around the stairs and moving them, something like this will happen. i think it has something to do with snapping. Here nor there, it does not seem like I can easily fix it

     

    I tried selecting both the landing and the stairs and using the tab key to move in the X direction 1/8", it does not move, I then tried just the upper flight, it does not move either.

    If I try and grab the upper flight to move to the right, it doesnt move. It seems like I have to grab the left edge of the upper flight, move it to the right (and shorten the tread by doing so) to disconnect from the landing, then go resize the landing to match the lower set, then grab the left side of the upper flight and drag left to reconnect to the landing

     

     is that the only way?

    are you moving them apart in the model, or the cross section. if the wall moves in the plan, will it then not revert back when it auto rebuilds?

     

    I'm going to take a guess as to what was manual..

    inside LVL (looks like it is cut into 2x6 wall, but probably blocked between them so maybe this is not manually done)

    not sure what those 2x4s are

    1x4 strapping looks same thickness as ceiling but ceiling is open to wall with cladding...interesting... enclosed porch of some kind maybe

  7. i'm curious, are you automating the text descriptions somehow with leader lines? or for each cross section are you drawing, say 10 or so leader lines with text?

     

    how are 0.1" things showing up, and stuff like drip edge and ice & water shield? I've been fiddling with my CAD details so that some of the things are macro'd but one can only get so far.. I would think labelling like below for a section each time might take awhile

  8. there are some in the CA catalog for download. You can use those as a starting point. I did not find any that matched up here in western Canada. But it is also a matter of preference as to how much detail actually goes into them.

    Plumbing ...and the weather. The furnace can be installed before the slab is poured

  10. good point, I'll use that for next time. can't battle them all on the one application. I won on the utility room door, gave up on the radon, and took the approval before he could find fault in the energy calcs (as he thought I was doing prescriptive)

     

    But the more I think about the energy calcs, the more I am liking treating the stairwell as having no stairs, and then dividing up the floor to be the upper floor without the stairwell, and then issuing Detail "B" above for compliance with the slab (As you cannot tradeoff slab for ceiling/walls) for the stairwell. And then for the wall using the entire upper storey and stairwell on the lower storey. I'll lose some tradeoff capacity, but at least it will be defendable. ....at least for the normal enclosed stair with no bathroom

    thanks. I have an HVAC guy I use on commercial but he is around 1k.  your guy might be the better option.

     

    My whole thinking on this is I cannot be the first person to deal with this stair in the garage thing. I see them all the time here. My guess, is the thermal piece on the stairs is being ignored on the tradeoff calc or everyone is using a model for the energy calc....and who knows what a model does with it (probably ignores it or assumes the floor thermal), because unless your (and everyone elses) guy is typing in the stair rise, run, stair thickness, stairwell opening, I cant see how the model could do it accurately either

     

  12. if I move the wall to be shorter ands then back again, it loses the floating piece, but also leaves it extended over

    if i delete the perpendicular attic wall it goes back to what you had and the floating piece

     

    i think the cap is trying to cover the attic wall.

     

    if I move the main wall away from the attic wall. it shows correct(ish). had to adjust the roof plane as well

    the curent design without the angled below stairs ceiling plane, would only have the walls insulated, which means the only insulation between the suite and the concrete garage floor is plywood from the stairs
