  1. If I want to show a client a floor plan what is the best way to do it digitally? (not looking for video, VR or client viewer just a 2d image)  I know chiefs export jpeg isnt clear for floor plans.   Im just wanting them to scroll in and out to see what the plan looks like so far, would an export pdf be best?  Chief has excellent raytrace abilities but I noticed for quick 2d presentations there doesnt seem to be as many options.

Thanks in advance for any help!

  2. I know there are many ways of creating custom materials.  My question is if Im in 3d view and have created a custom tile roof and want to just add that roofing to my library, what is the quickest most efficient way of doing this?  Such a junior question despite me using chief for so long.  I typically have done it before in round about ways but wanted to ask what the best way to do it is.

    Thanks in advance!

  3. Does anyone know how to get the sun to follow the camera in perspective overviews?  I remember in x8 or x9 the new features list mentioned something of this nature but cant seem to find where to select this.  To explain further, if you turn your house in perspective overviews usually one side is shaded the other is light.  Im looking for the sun to light up all the sides of the house as Im turning it.

    Thanks in advance!

  4. FINALLY!  I open and closed the plan several times, I was just about ready to copy and paste the entire plan into a brand new X9 plan and then the icon showed up.  SO I was able to 'add to library'.  So strange, this simple task has always been so easy, glad it finally corrected itself.  Clearly the old plan forwarded into X9 was problematic.

Thanks for all the time and replies everyone!

  5. Yeah thats the strange thing is Im not able to find the material.  I have the tongue and groove flooring then I used a custom gray color to stain the wood.  When I double click the room where the flooring is located and get to the materials tab, when I select the flooring it shows but when you go to select material it doesnt find it because its not in the library yet, I just created it.  Im just trying to add it to my library.  I must have a plan that got messed up being its an old chief plan.  Usually within a couple clicks I can easily add materials to my library, not sure why this scenario is creating challenges.

  6. I used a library wood flooring material and added a custom paint stain on it and want to add it to the library.  I use to be able to use the rainbow tool or double click on the room and go to materials dbx and then click on add to library.  Those options arent available.  Ive done this 1000 times and dont know why the add to library button wont show.  Im using an older plan forwarded to x9.  Any ideas?

    Thanks!

  7. Thanks for all the input.  Sounds like the bay, bow window tools are pretty pointless.  I just liked how they easily can be moved around and changed.  Sounds like some engineering on the tools might be a good idea to make these tools more popular.

  8. I dont use bay windows much but I decided to use the Chief bay window tool.  I wanted to delete the default windows in the bay and just copy and paste some other windows I have in the plan. When I did that it a message dbx came up and said you cannot place windows in a locked item.  I searched around for how to unlock it but couldnt figure this out.  Whats the magic key to allow for pasting windows into bays?

    Thanks!

  9. David, thanks for the advice and help.  I will check this out.  I know that in chiefs roof dbx you can do zero eave but wasnt sure about the overlapping tile. Since you brought up the other roof style in the picture you posted, is that a parapet wall for the roof?  You mentioned you have done these types of decorative roof styles many times in chief.  I havent done this type of roof before but am interested in how you designed that.  Id love to hear more about it.

Joe, thanks so much for the offer of help.  Nice to know you have the proper symbols to do the job right.  I will give this a try and if I need anymore help I will contact you.  Thanks again for offering help, I appreciate it.

  10. I will first apologize that I couldnt find an accurate picture to put on this post to describe what Im talking about, I searched but couldnt find what I was looking for.  Does anyone know if zero eave spanish gable roofs are able to be produced in Chief along with the outside edge tile overlapping the roof to the stucco wall?

    Thanks in advance!

  11. Does anyone know if chiefs doorway tool is capable of drawing a round horseshoe arch?  Ive tried the full arch where the circumference of the arch reaches all the way to the ground width of the doorway without any success.  I also tried the archs circumference only extending beyond the width of the doorway width at the top and it wouldnt work either.  Heres a link with many different variations of the arch Im speaking about.

    Any ideas?

  12. WOW what a response!  Thanks all for the input.  Sounds like its an easy answer, Im glad I have the other monitor to try it out.  Thanks Larry for the link to the other post about bigger monitors as well, I will check that out.  Take care and thanks again!

  13. Does anyone have any opinions on using Chief with two monitors?  I actually have a brand new monitor Ive had for a few years but its just sitting in the box and havent used it yet.  The one I have is big enough but keep hearing that chiefs X9 has the ability to use both monitors.  Is it worth having another monitor taking up space on the desk?  Does chief behave any differently with two?  Is it challenging to get it set up and have chief recognize the second monitor?

    Thanks!

  14. Great, thanks so much Perry for the reply. I know that sometimes changing room names to different things like balcony or what not changes the floor heights and other things, so its good to know porch wont change things to much.
