Ryan- I am not sure if you figured this out or not, but I usually go to transform/replicate, and resize to a resize factor of .5 or something like that. Works fine for me! Karen

Thank you, Joey. I will try that for my plan set. Karen

I'm wondering if anyone has experience creating different options with the same plan file... maybe I have to have separate plan files I send to the same layout file?

Do any of you have experience creating a house plan for production, with options that future clients can choose from? One builder I am drawing for wants me to use a simple house plan as a base and have options like cantilevered bump-out at the dining room, etc, that clients can choose to customize their home. I am trying to figure out how you'd do that in Chief... Anyone have ideas? They'd be much appreciated! Karen

That worked perfectly! Thank you.

Can anyone help me get my railing to follow the stair slope? I have drawn pony walls with railings on top of them many times, but for some reason I can't get this one to behave. I wonder if I have a setting wrong? And yes, I did choose "follow stairs". Any ideas? Thank you! Stairs.zip

Does anyone know how I can figure out what the error message is that I get every time I open a new plan file, and intermittently when I'm designing? It disappears too fast to read. I'm wondering if I have a default setting wrong...Is there an error history log somewhere?

How to hide furring, insulation on a foundation wall?
ElkRivers replied to ElkRivers's topic in General Q & A
Thank you so much for your help! I was able to get it to do exactly what I wanted with the Main Layer Only. Karen -
Hi all- My Structural Engineer is asking for foundation plans that only show the 8" concrete basement wall. My concrete walls have 3" insulation on the outside of the basement, as well as future furring (which I've shown as dashed lines) on the inside. Is there a way to make these walls so I can separate out the concrete wall, and "turn off' everything else? I haven't been able to find any past dialog about this specific thing. I probably can remove the furring, now that my space planning in the basement is done. But I can't remove the insulation from my model or it won't look right...possibly there's a better way to do it? Thanks.

Hi all- I am working on a screen porch and have built the walls with posts and "doors" between, since the program doesn't seem to like putting windows/screens into something that isn't a wall. Can you tell me how I can pull these doors so they line up flush with the exterior? We will be using EZ screens in the screen porch and they attach with flanges to the exterior of the posts. Thank you! Karen

I thought I was probably missing out on a crucial step, but I probably just need to regenerate after working with the stairs. Thank you so much!

Can someone tell me how to fix this? When I draw stairs with landing I often end up tweaking the stair and/or landing location, to fit as adjacent walls move. This often causes the stair sections and landings to disconnect from each other, especially on a U-shaped stairwell. Anybody else have this issue? I'm sure there's a simple fix, but I haven't found it yet!

Hi! Can anyone help me figure out why I get extra lines showing up on my elevations? It only appears where I have a bonus room over a garage, and the material on the outside of the wall doesn't change at the same elevation as the floor of the bonus room. I previously pulled up the lower wall in elevation to hide the transition behind the belly band. Now (after making changes to bonus room) I have even more lines showing up. Has anyone had experience dealing with this issue before?

How to "unlink" a .plan file from a .layout file?
ElkRivers replied to ElkRivers's topic in General Q & A
Thanks, that's handy to know. I probably previously had some image file or something still referencing the old file, because now when I go in to the "referenced plan files" it doesn't list it any more. Thanks for the help! Karen -
I have changed the name of my .plan file as we've made revisions. It appears that the .layout file still opens the old .plan files that I'm no longer referencing in my layout. Can someone tell me how to "unlink" the old .plan files from the layout? I haven't been able to find anything on this topic.. Thanks. Karen

That's exactly what I ended up doing, which is where it should've been from the start! Thanks.

Thanks. I got it to work, but only after pulling the top of each basement wall down and then snapping it back into place. Must've needed to regenerate. I appreciate the help!

Hi~ Can anyone tell me what I need to change so that the upper level openings don't show up in the basement/foundation walls? I'm working off of a plan someone else started and there are funny little things showing up that I can't seem to figure out... Thanks.

Help with attic walls/dormer that won't move...
ElkRivers replied to ElkRivers's topic in General Q & A
Thank you Solver! Looks perfect! Karen -
Hi all. I am trying to move an upper dormer bump out and the window in it. Possibly because of different ceiling conditions below the bump out (part of it is open to above, part of it has ceiling), I can't get my bump-out to move and to center it. It should be centered on the door below. There is no need for me to accurately model the interior at this point, we just need the front elevation to look correct. I am also aware that I have an extra 3rd floor level that shouldn't be there (There is a balcony level that was never drawn in; I've been learning a lot as I go). I think that the extra level causes the extra lines to show up on my exterior. I don't have the time to re-draw the whole thing at this point since we'd like to go for permit soon. If any experienced chief user could help me figure out how to clean this front elevation up (with limited hours available), I'd sure appreciate it! Thank you! Karen Building Reduced File Size.zip
