  1. Hi all. New to X9 from like V10.0something. The undo command back THEN was a major shortcoming of this program. It still is today. Might even be worse, IMO. I am currently renting-to-own this program and overall am very happy with a lot of the new features that have been added over the years but this lack of functionality with the Undo command is a major disappointment. It really impedes the creative process when you're constantly thinking about how long it will take to Undo the commands you need to implement in order to test drive a new design element. Having to constantly save and reboot is a major pain in the butt. On top of that you cant even see what commands you are actually undoing while it is lagging out or if the undo command was even recognized by the program at all. This is simply awful. I think this issue is what keeps Chief in the minor leagues. To be able to do and undo on the fly is critical for good design. I am really considering terminating my rent-to-own over this unless there is some workaround I am missing. I have tried turning off all unnecessary elements, layers, etc and it really doesn't help. I am running on a very capable laptop that blows through all of my other design programs - AutoCAD, Sketchup, Revit, etc. It can even do heavy Raytracing without effecting my work in Chief or any other applications running simultaneously. Interestingly enough the Undo command doesn't get worse while Raytracing - its just always horrible, I really want to add this program to my tool box. If anyone has any help on this or news of CA attempts to fix this issue I would greatly appreciate it!
  2. Chiefer -thats much easier and appropriate. Thanks guys!
  3. Ahh! Thank you solver! Weird thing to have to tweak in a "BIM" program, no?
  4. Hi, using X9 here. Am I missing something - I need to put a light onto a custom slab I am using as a column. It only wants to attach to walls....
  5. Hi, using X9 and trying to get a simple gable end, attic wall arched "pass-through" detail like shown in the attached picture. I am using the wall niche tool to try and achieve this - Is this the best way? The major issues are: 1) The niche has a bottom too it that I would rather not have. You can see it bleeding through a bit here, Not the end of the world as its not really visible from most views (but I really hate cheating!!) 2) I want to be able to put a window in the rear of the niche but its being framed at the main layer. I have tried creating a new wall type and messing with the layer order but cant get window to recess back,... Amy help would be greatly appreciated!
  6. So I have to manually draw in a box and hatch it? Eeekgarbledurkle that is a ton of work. How on earth did something like this get through beta testing? Why would anyone want to display the pony wall below in plan view without also having like normal looking doors and windows and stuff?
  7. Hi, using X9 and want to have my exterior pony walls display the lower brick clad wall in plan view so I can see the brick hatching. Problem is the wall fill goes through my windows (cause they are in the upper wall). Is there a trick to get this to display the way I want without having to manually draw in a region and hatch it? Thanks!
  8. Never has a profile name been so accurate. Thank you sir - problem SOLVED!
  9. Think I got it...(.the file to upload that is )
  10. Thanks Solver! Deleted everything non essential in my plan but its still to large to upload here??? ***duh, never mind - here it is!! *** Files should make it pretty clear - just trying to get that upper side wall of tower to play ball... Shea_CT_Upload.plan
  11. Thanks guys, but neither option is going to work for this application. What I really am trying to do is have no wall on the floor but a attic wall above. I have tried and tried placing an attic wall, moving my roof planes, etc but no matter what I do Chief will not generate a cheek wall without it being a full height wall. If I posted the plan and showed you where I'm talking about would either of kind gentleman be up for a look see?
  12. Am I missing something - seems like it should be easy enough to make a wall invisible in plan view but still show up in 3d....Haven't used CA since v10.09 or something. Using X9 now...
  13. Kbird - silly question but how do I set the graphics card as default to CA?
  14. Thanks for the feedback! I hope I didn't come off snooty in my OP. Really was not my intention. Back when I was using CA there were some quirks but I think a lot of it had to do with the machine I was running it on not being up to the task - especially in the rendering department. I am currently running it on a ASUS Strix gaming laptop with Intel i7, 7th gen 2.8ghz processor, 12 GB of RAM and a dedicated NVIDIA GEforce GTX graphics card. System should be more than up to the task, no?
  15. Oh for crying out loud I didn't start this to get flamed. I don't see how toggling from one view to another should cause any high end software package to act oddly. If you can prove that was a user error than do so but to just disregard it out of hand is not constructive. I am trying to make an educated purchase decision here and this forum used to be quite helpful. If you don't wanna play nice, move along.
  16. OK thanks for the reply. I didn't change anything except to toggle from 3d view back to plan view. Then the walls were gone but only if they are an 8" concrete wall - any other type of wall is OK. So to be clear by buggy I don't mean crashing your computer buggy - I mean the pull your out at 3am because a layer just wont display correctly, etc type of buggy.
  17. Hello all I used CA many years ago because a client of mine had a license for it and allowed me to use it for free. I found a lot of its features fantastic: on the fly renderings, interior material component schedules (esp for kitchens!). But there were just SOOOOOOOOOO many bugs it got really frustrating. So when that client moved on so did my access to CA and due to its buggy nature I decided it just wasn't worth the price. So life went on for a number of years (8 or so) then I recently downloaded the trial version of X9 and on day two I am already finding some really frustrating bugs: IE: the standard 8" concrete stem wall type suddenly no longer displays in plan view (its footings do but not the wall ) but only on 3 sides of the plan - one wall displays fine. I can switch the disappearing walls to other types and poof! there they are in all their glory. Change back to 8" concrete wall and they (but not the footings!) are gone. I am sure, like before, there is a work around but at the price of this software package those kinds of bugs just shouldn't be something I have to waste time with. I feel like this product is constantly in beta test mode.... So am I being to quick to judge this version on CA as being just a insanely buggy as its predecessors? Is it really worth the money? Like the Xfiles - I wanna believe.... Thanks! concrete wall.pdf
