Working on a set of plans and the client wants to flip the plan. When I reverse plan I'm not able to select an individual room anymore - it selects the entire plan. Thoughts?
-
Got distracted with inspections and forgot to check back in. I've finally attached the screenshot of what's going on.

Thought I attached a screen shot - I looked at the setting and it was checked but didn't solve my problem. So odd. Now I don't see a way to attach the file.

Working on a plan and I keep running into a problem in one room of the plan. Every time I draw a wall in this area it splits the wall into two sections no matter what I do. If I click in the space this invisible wall shows up but I don't know how to get rid of it. It also divided the "room" into distinctly labeled spaces. Never encountered this - any suggestions would be appreciated! Martha

Joey that's what I've been doing but I need to change just one wall and that's where problems start to occur. I think I'm going to leave it alone on the elevation and show it correctly on the roof plan. In the field it will get built correctly as I am building the house and know the plans intimately. Thanks for the advice. I'm surprised no one knows PH is plate height. The truss engineer agreed but different parts of the country use different terms.
-
Plate Height - common term in California - what framers & truss designers use here when referring to wall height. I'm a GC so I sometimes use terminology that we use the in the field. The truss designer and I have been referring to it as plate height while working out the roof layout. Not sure posting a plan would help as I can't show the condition correctly. The truss plan accurately reflects the roof and trying to show it in elevation view. I could do it manually but sometimes that creates unexpected consequences.

Trying to accurately show elevations for addition/remodel. Existing PH is 8'2". Adding porch across back of family room to cut some of the western sun but not ruin the view of backyard. Because the roof extends over the porch the rear wall of family room can accommodate 8' doors with 9' PH. In the kitchen to the left of family client wants a 9' flat ceiling but hip was in the way so truss engineer is using 9' PH at common wall only- the boxed eave for the existing structure on the right will be an undershot at small porch. Never had to do this so looking for advice on easiest way to tackle this. I've tried a few things but nothing is quite right. Attached truss layout. B16-024_Layout_03-11-16.pdf

Thanks solver - foundation for garage had wrong box checked. I knew it was something simple but sometimes you get too entrenched in where to look for the problem - I kept checking the room setup not the foundations. THANKS - saved me a lot of agony!

In elevation view my garage walls are not showing up correctly. Garage doors are right but the walls look like they are floating. At first I had a brick wainscot so thought that was the issue. Changed to siding and checked all my foundation settings and can't seem to find an obvious problem. Garage is 18" down from finished floor height.

I rotated plan 180 degrees as suggested and that worked but the text didn't rotate with it even though I have rotate with plan checked. So I tried using a new text box and it appears upside down as well. Met with clients today and it was really bothering the husband that the plan was upside down to him.

After reading the posts above I'm still confused about how to rotate an entire plan. I get rotating the view doesn't solve my problem. My clients started out with a draftsman using CAD so I his file as a starting point. I should have started from scratch - would have taken me 30 minutes at most. The draftsman didn't orient the house the way I normally do. I find clients understand plans better when the front door is at the bottom of the page. All of the text boxes have rotate with plan checked so once I get the plan rotated I should be fine.

Bill - I ended up closing the file without saving then reopening - magically my roof planes came back. I won't question it just be thankful and move on!

Started having software issues Saturday with X6 Mac user. File blew up even though saved multiple times while working on it. No archive file for that day as well which is really odd. Already talked to technical support but no answers. They checked my system but CA's message log is missing. Now part of my roof is missing and I've checked the usual suspects. Deleted the entire roof and started over to no avail. One section is part of a hip over garage and the other is a gable over a big porch. Spending valuable time redoing this file and just want to get it finished and to the engineer. Any suggestions?
-
Yes - first thing I did. Strange part was the archive file was one from Friday even though I had saved thru out Saturday and Sunday. I keep getting the message. Won't let me save any file now. I've sent a message to tech support. Hope to get resolution tomorrow. In meantime any work I do on the plan may get lost. Printing every hour to remind me of what I've done.

Spent all weekend working on adding details to a project - added terrain and landscaping plus cleaned up the file for walkthrough which I recorded and sent to client (thankfully). I even saved the file numerous times thru out the day. Today my file blew up and the message I keep getting is attached below. I went to archives to retrieve the latest file and it's all the way back to Friday which makes no sense to me. So I saved a copy of the archive file to a new folder to start over. I keep getting the error message about writing preferences when I try to save the new file after making changes. Searched the Chief database and no reference to this message. Don't want to have this happen again. I can probably make the changes pretty quickly because I remember what I did. X6 user on Mac. Can upgrade to X7 but don't like to upgrade in middle of project.

Boy do I feel stupid - I only had the current page checked! Hey at least I solved it!

I know this is probably easy but I can't figure how to take Title 24 report that's in PDF form and add it sheet by sheet to a Layout page. When I import all I get is the 1st page but when I go back to original document I can scroll thru it page by page. Trying to finish a set of plans tonight. Anyone? Thanks in advance - Martha

For some reason auto ext dim has started acting up. Checked the usual suspects and for the life of me can't find the source of the problem. When I use auto exterior only part of the floor plan is dimensioned. I've tried deleting all dimensions and starting over but nothing works. X6 user

Having issues in X6 for mac with room defaults. First I set up my floor and foundation defaults then moved on to room defaults. When I try to change room defaults everything is grayed out. When I go room by room and open objects I'm able to change the structure panel to be what I want. Just a pain to go room by room and confirm it's set up right. Need an 8' ceiling height and defaults are for 9'. Also been having issues with garage structure changing after setting my defaults. Never had a problem in the past but wasting time trying to fix it.

Help To Create Flat Roof Adjacent To Gable Roof Over 2Nd Sty

Still confused about how to add a flat roof beyond the 16.5' gable section to cover the remaining 10'+ -
City preservationist is yanking my chain. Have to lower a gable roof ridge height spanning 26.5' to match opposite side of house which spans only 16.5' - won't allow a pitch break which is what would be easiest. Want the two sides of a colonial to match - adding a 2nd story over a sun room and a carport. What they call a bulk control issue. 8/12 pitch. I'm not proficient with manual roofs. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Martha

Trying to finish up to beat a deadline . Go to review my work. Had to change roof over side additions from gables to hips to meet new design criteria. No problem easily done. When I take an elevation view one side only the attic wall of the existing portion of the house shows as a framing section from the 2nd floor ceiling up to the ridge. Tried everything from deleting the wall completely and redrawing. Fixed all my other problems just need one last thing to get it off to the engineer to print and stamp.

The archive files were no help. Too much detail missing from the non-corrupt plan. So I've been using the edit area tool but having difficulty selecting only what I need - tried turning off some layers to better grab things. Most of it has worked and the rest is arrows point to the wrong thing so easier to delete and redo so in the right spot. It was a framing plan with shear wall details for an addition/remodel - new framing manually drawn in addition areas, callout text, stairs, railings were shifted to the left but the walls and windows were in the right spot. All of the arrows are wonky. Going to reference manual to read up on edit area tool. Thanks for the advice!

Thanks Chiefer- I thought about archives but I worked on the roof and foundation plans extensively before realizing something had shifted. I'll check - I thought about just moving everything back but worried I will miss something and create a bigger mess. Lew- I agree but it seems the faster you need something finished the more problems you have - Murphy's law.
