I think you guys found a bug...it doesn't seem to work the way you'd think. What is interesting is I remember Michael helping me with a similar issue - it was a "railing" wall used for a courtyard screen - and it worked exactly the way you'd think.

The reason I believe this hasn't be an issue yet is its so rare to build full foundations under porches.  Typically its just a perimeter footing or pad supports for the posts/columns.

It's not rare in Arkansas. In fact, it would be rare to see one without a foundation. And I do like most everyone else and draw porch foundations in manually. No big deal plus I never figured out how to get Chief to draw them for me.

You're welcome Ross.  I wouldn't say I'm being totally selfless though.  As silly as it sounds, I know there's part of me that does it for the recognition (and maybe the reputation points) and I'm really being dead serious.

I wish sometimes that more people would (like I know you do) realize the amount of time and effort that some of us put into this stuff.  99% of the users here give us no thanks, no points, no thumbs up, no reciprocal help, no nothing...and just in case any of you are wondering, we're not on Chief's payroll either (at least I'm not).  You guys can really thank the other 1% of the users here that offer any kind of support.  If it weren't for them I may not being helping out here at all. I honestly get a little frustrated at times with the lack of appreciation that the user base in general here seems to display.  I don't know how some of the guys here have stuck around as long as they have.  I mean Scott probably has 10,000 videos and and several million views and I doubt he's seen more than some stinky fish.  I can't help but think we've lost the help of several of the most talented Chief users over the years due to the lack of appreciation and support.

I just feel sometimes that there are a very small handful of users...Scott, Glenn, Joe, Yusef, Perry, Mark McAnnif, Curt, Chopsticks : ), Eric (Solver)...just to name a few...who are really offering the bulk of value...and the rest are just along for the free ride.  I can't help but think sometimes that everyone has the impression we're all getting reimbursed for our time and efforts somehow.  I can tell you from personal experience though that we're probably not.

Anyway, sorry for the rant.  I would just implore everyone to try and offer a little more support however they can...not just for me but for all the other guys who have increased your knowledge, wisdom, and productivity.  Whether it be a heartfelt thank you, clicking on the little UP arrow (or the little thumbs up), financial support, or whatever.  Just remember that sometimes the smallest tips can sometimes increase your value and productivity substantially.  That's extra money in your pocket, or extra time to do what you love.  Wouldn't hurt to return the favor sometimes.

while I can't speak for anyone else, I am extremely grateful for all that you and so many others do for those like myself on this board. and, honestly, if it weren't for this board, I truly believe that I would be still struggling with much of Chief. I've only been here a few months but try to read each and every post and watch each and every video to gain a better understanding of Chief and what it can do. I'm blown away by the patience and generosity by the dedicated individuals on this board (like those you mentioned) who take time out their busy lives to answer trivial questions from those like myself and only hope that one day that I might have the skills to return the favor given to me. thank you!

Yes that is the BenQ monitor I have and it is an excellent monitor. I have run my Macbook pro on it as also and it does admirably consider it has integrated graphics. I'm about to purchase the Kaby Lake Macbook Pro with the Radeon 560, I'm sure it will be quite an improvement.

I plan on doing the same. I'm currently running Chief on what  many would consider an antique ....a mid-2009 macbook pro.

Didn't take much time to explore WHY the lines are behaving like they are, but those are Ceiling Break Lines. You're right though, they're related to that front curved wall somehow.  If you replace that with a straight wall the lines go away, if you convert that straight wall to an arc they show right back up again.  Very strange indeed.  I think you should send it in to tech support so they can figure it out and get it fixed.

    I will....thank you.

are those lines 2D CAD lines or are they invisible walls or something else?

    David,

Those are porch beams created with the railing tool. Oddly enough, I found a way to make the lines disappear and then reappear. If you click COPY on the curved wall in the front bedroom and then DELETE the front wall....the lines (and the curved wall) disappear. Then, if you click PASTE IN PLACE, the wall resumes it's position as do the weird lines.

    I have no idea.

  6. Could someone please tell me why this is a double line instead of single over the back porch? I don't mind if it's double or single but I want it consistent. This happens to me on occasion and I have no idea why. There is a section of the front porch doing the same thing.

    Thanks.

Trying to make the font size larger on door labels.   I will often use the custom label, and have been told the font is too small.    I use the standard default, and how best to make bit larger?

    here is one way:

    >highlight a door on your plan

    >click  Object Layer Properties

    >under Door Labels, click Default Label Style

    >choose larger text style (i changed mine to 1/4")

Here is an example of using Material Regions to cut the

grooves in the cement wall. The columns are stacked

P-Solids with a skinny P-Solid in between to represent

the grooves but all the grooves in the walls are Material

Regions set to "cut finish layers of parent object".

How did you do the "text" on the front of the building? It disappears when I try this.

  9. Many, many thanks to both Eric and David for taking so much of their valuable time to teach this old dog a few tricks. I can't believe I didn't think about pushing the siding out just past the brick (to generate the frieze in the gables). After 35 years of framing/building, you'd think I'd know better. I was also wondering why I could not manually edit frieze...now I know.

  10. Hey guys and gals... I just purchased CA a few weeks ago and I must say that I am truly impressed with the capabilities of this program, thanks to the OUTSTANDING work I've seen in this forum -some truly amazing work which only makes me realize that I have a long, long way to go.

I had no trouble with my first plan -a very basic single story home. The second is a different story as there are a few things I can't seem to fix. First is missing or incomplete frieze boards -particularly in the gables. Second, I can not figure out how to generate the missing angular wall sections of the second floor dormer and at least one of the main half gables. Third, I don't understand why CA won't generate a full return (or any for that matter) in the half-gable on the outer LAUNDRY wall. I'm sure there are other questions that I might have but those seem to be my main concerns for the time being.

Thanks for any help and advice.
