  1. Why is the "formatted size" different from my door size?

I really just need a column that can display the door size and hinge side.

I was hoping the "size column" could do that.

The image below shows a 30" x 84" door but the size column shows 2670 L

What does the 2670 refer to and how to correct?

Why is this so confusing or am I that dense? (highly possible)

There must be a simple solution to this problem

It's your very green and shiny background with that horrible out of the box grass.

    Experiment with different backgrounds.

Try the "Cloudy Sunset" from the Chief Bonus catalogue just to see the effect.

With a dark background like that one you get a lot less interference with light bouncing around on the inside.

If it's too dark on the inside you can increase exposure and light intensity.

It's always easier to increase brightness than to darken an over lit scene.

My design sheet is 24 x 36 and all is good but when I want to send that to print on an 11 x 17 paper is there a way to do this

The simplest way is to print at 1/2 scale.

In the Print View dialogue box.

    > Drawing Scale

    > Check Plot at “1/2 Scale”

Since 11x17 is roughly half of 24 x 36 you might only need some minor tweaking of objects too close to the edge. Adjust those and you’re all good.

Be aware that your scale reference which was probably set at 1/4” in now effectively 1/8” once printed.
You might want to change that on your plans as well.

Do I need to define the ceiling height of the staircase by adding a wall to create a room specification?

If you create the stairwell with a room which includes, not only your steps but also includes the landing then, the open-below room will have the default ceiling height of your 1st floor, so there’s nothin to do beyond that.
The landing gets adjusted when properly snapped to the two stair runs.

The other way is to use a separate room to define the landing, and another room with an open-below room for the 2 stair runs.  You would then drop the floor level of the landing room to the height you need to accommodate the stairs.

With either option you’re never adjusting the ceiling height.

  5. The announcement only says Mac raytracing, which we already have, so I think they mean realtime raytracing or whatever that greyed out section is called when you do PBR.

Also excited to see poché fill.

I guess we're finally getting cut fills for sections and maybe even 3D views?

However, the wall beneath the door would not disappear, so I lowered the door by -28 1/4"

You can lower the floor level of the “open below” room by 28-1/4”, so that your door will sit at the proper level. No need to lower the door. An open below room behaves the same way as other rooms.

Specifically that leans to the ontario building code

In Quebec we have 3d detail drawings available which are up to date with the same building code version as in Ontario.

They're available on our builders association website APCHQ or the builder's bonding and guarantee website GCR.

I'm sure you guys have similar in Ontario, just ask a local builder which association he is a member of.

You should see their logos on any certified local builder's website, even.

Of course they're in French but I'm sure you have something similar in Ontario.

You could still click around and copy the images and make those part of your detail drawings.

    (along with some google translate)

Here is a link to our builders association website:

Here is about the best I can do on a Mac.

If you find this good enough for publication (I don't) then here are my settings.

One important thing is to use a proper backdrop as the backdrop will affect lighting.

The reason you're getting the washed out look is mostly due to your white background.

On a Mac a more subdued background like some of the Dusk skies are usually easier to work with as they are darker.

It's easier to increase brightness than to decrease it.

@stevenyhof credit to Steven for the background image below.

  9. You can do a pony wall where the bottom portion is your 4” high concrete stemwall and the top portion is your barn wall at whatever thickness. Just be careful of how you’re aligning the top portion over the bottom one. I’m assuming you’ll want the outside to outside alignment, since you wouldn’t want a concrete ledge going around the outside perimeter.

The future 4” slab can go in whenever you want as the floor structure. I don’t think you need a floor finish.
    That’ll be provided by the cows, I guess… ;)

I'm not sure what “existing road base” is?  Is that just your terrain going through the barn?

Hello everyone, I attempted my first CPU ray trace and it doesn't look grea

No one will tell you this but it is impossible to produce a proper ray trace or pbr image on a Mac.

    Give it up.

Standard render is your only friend. It will produce “acceptable” images to show your clients but not worthy of website, portfolio or brochures etc…

If you want professional renderings, hire it out or buy a pc and spend the time.

    some helpful advice

You definitely need a cad program to view whatever you export.

I use Qcad Pro about $45 usd, a one-time perpetual license.
    https://qcad.org/en/online-shop

Each view has to be exported separately.
floor plan level, 0, 1, 2, cross section, elevation front, back, left, right etc.

    1 export per view.

I would reduce all line weights to 1 or even 0 (experiment)

Acad users often dump every view on one screen and then zoom into the various views.
unlike Chief’s floor levels and saved camera and plan views.
So you might want to do the same, this way they open 1 file and everything is there.
I’m not a regular Acad user but I often export out to engineers and architects.
Maybe it’s regional but they always ask for all views on 1 page.

Here are my settings for the Eport Drawing dbx:

What kind of wonky are you experiencing?

The toolbar almost goes blank with maybe two or three icons remaining.

I realize this is mostly a Mac issue, with more than one monitors, so it gets little attention.

Little attention, except from the people who don’t have this issue.

It’s been an issue discussed often enough on this forum, and if you call Chief or make a report they will pretty much tell you it doesn’t ever happen on any of their computers, Mac or PC, despite multiple reports.

I'm hoping that if I ***** about it maybe something will be done about it.

I’ve actually learned to live with it by mostly using hotkeys, like that little three-legged dog still prancing around happy as a button.

Thanks for showing interest. I hope you don’t encounter this ever.

  13. I can't wait until we have "cut fill" control of walls and floors instead of the auto detail tool.

The auto detail tool will create patterned cad boxes but won't update to follow changes in the plan.

    Hopefully in X16?
