  1. Wanted to throw this out to you experts on Chief - doing some research and trying to find out your best recommendations for sharing files of large projects with a design team in another state?

There are several options that come to mind - Dropbox, iDrive, and other Cloud services. We are running on a Windows platform and want to be able to easily access files and update content as-needed.

  2. I'm working on a new ADU project that needs an actual 3D barrel tile roof that looks realistic. The symbol that's in the Library is not any good, as it's flat and you cannot see the radiused tiles from a distance.

I don't want to try and spend hours creating one with polylines and other tools, but wanted to enlist your help on this one.

    Best -

  3. Good idea Mick. I'll do that.

Also, could you create an entrance door (pair of doors) with arched frame/hardware for a Spanish-style entry (each leaf would be 3' x 8' high)? I'd be happy to pay you for your time, as I checked and downloaded all possible custom doors from Chief, as well as go to 3D Warehouse without any luck. Attaching an actual photo of these. No more requests, as these are the only outstanding items to complete.

If you have a 3D source for these types of doors Mick, that would be sincerely appreciated too, rather than creating from scratch.

    Thank you -

  4. Thanks for sending the information on the Kiva fireplace. I researched the name "Beehive" fireplace and similar info came up. Glad there's an official name to this.

That said, the rendered Kiva fireplace that you sent the .plan file over looks very close to the original photo. I raised the hearth and used different colors, but too me, it's very similar. This is for my own use and am rendering a custom home with sunken living room. No client, just my own personal use.

Original photo of the existing home and rendered view are attached.

  5. I'm "trying", key word, to create a custom fireplace for the corner of a Spanish style home. Attached is the photo of the actual fireplace. Trying to use solids tool and cone shape. I can tilt it off its axis, but have no way or idea how to create an opening inside for firewood, etc.

Also tried 3D Warehouse, but they didn't have anything except traditional style fireplaces.

  6. Apologies if this has already been answered, but I've been in the Defaults toolbar and desperately trying to suppress all labels. It's ridiculous to cut a section, import a CAD block, import an image, etc., only to have a label attached to each one.

How can you turn on "Suppress Labels" and make it global?

  7. It's crazy to have 30 plus layers in a default setting and not be able to delete all but three or four! This would be a good suggestion for X16 as it's a huge time bandit to have to sort through the entire content just to get to the layers you need.

CHIEF BETA REQUEST - Please allow us users to be able to delete as many unused layers as necessary. It's senseless to have Roof, Cabinet, Slab, Terrain, etc., when all we need is three or four layers for a CAD project.

  8. I have tried everything in the book in an attempt to offset a Thermador or any dishwasher from a base cabinet. Usually, you can just "tab" over after selecting an object and it will allow you to select "next". Mine won't for some reason.

Could you give me an idea on how to do this? See attachment with actual photo and my dilemma

    Thanks

  9. I’ve ordered 11 x 17 grid paper (four squares per inch), a laptop table tripod (for placing and drawing on grid paper), and laser measuring device.

I know this is old school, but dimensions and accuracy are most important. Once LiDAR and apps improve, I’ll switch if accuracy is exceptional. This could be a timesaver but right now, it’s not there yet.

  10. Just checked out Cubicasa and Matterport platforms. Neither is very accurate and one even missed the dimensions by over 11 inches. A workaround might be using Magic Plan with a laser input for dimensions, stitching the rooms together and exporting as a .dwg or .dxf format into Chief. Photogrammetry is interesting but appears that it would not work well with what we do for floor plans and elevations.

Still researching and will post findings...
