Electrical object floor display issue

I'm having a weird problem with my electrical objects- this building has a vaulted ceiling with a small enclosed loft, which I made with the build floor tool, and then divided with a rail-less deck edge, and made the main area open below. The issue is that when I place electrical objects on the first floor, they float in the air where the ceiling would be if the loft extended across the building. If I place them on the second floor, they display on both floors, but I can't edit them on the first floor, and don't want them displaying on the first floor. It's not ideal, but if I could cover the objects on the second floor with a CAD box, it would work for now. The problem is that the boxes I've tried to use display behind the objects, and I can't get them to move forward.
