Woodworks is a very good program if you are an experienced engineer.  Strucalc is a nice program as well, and it is a little easier to use.

 

These are stand alone programs.  There are no plug ins for Chief to do this sort of thing.

Try ISDT Fiat-Lite. I actually am crunching on a proj and haven't tried it but my colleague, Yoel, has been ecstatic about it. Never seen him this happy about a silly eng. software. He said its PDF integration is more practical than CAD plugs and can is also the easiest software for this he's used.. plus it shows all the numbers for everything so you can easily talk to your engineer.

 

And I agree this stuff should be looked over by an engineer, but I like to do sanity checks etc. Also makes communication easier if I at least have the option of looking into a few things.
