rtj4201
The wood frame still has to be designed. Does anyone know of a good software program to analyze and design the wood elements in the frame? Raymond Thomposn
RodCole
Woodworks is a very good program if you are an experienced engineer. Strucalc is a nice program as well, and it is a little easier to use. These are stand alone programs. There are no plug ins for Chief to do this sort of thing. Hope that is helpful. mcrump
Beamchek is also another good and inexpensive one.
Jay_on_Cape
Try BC Calc. It is a free program designed for Boise Cascade EWP products but it will also do solid sawn products so you can do your SPF or SP or Douglas Fir or Hem Fir framing materials as well. DRAWZILLA
Do you really want the liability for that, I don't, Let an engineer do that and just include it in your price. I do that with every job I do.
JohnSh
Try ISDT Fiat-Lite. I actually am crunching on a proj and haven't tried it but my colleague, Yoel, has been ecstatic about it. Never seen him this happy about a silly eng. software. He said its PDF integration is more practical than CAD plugs and can is also the easiest software for this he's used.. plus it shows all the numbers for everything so you can easily talk to your engineer. And I agree this stuff should be looked over by an engineer, but I like to do sanity checks etc. Also makes communication easier if I at least have the option of looking into a few things.
