Soffits auto-joining

I making these 10x20 battens to go on a wall. They are 20mm apart. However, anything under 50mm apart auto-joins and makes a panel. 

I have noticed this when I push a vanity close to a wall or shower wall also - it automatically touches. I want to show that there is a small gap. 

I have dropped the line weight to 1 but it still does it.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Soffits will auto join that way, just like cabinets.  You could turn off "create auto fillers" in the "general cabinet defaults".  Or use something other than soffits, like framing, poly solids, wall material regions,  slabs, or whatever...
