  • Products & Versions Affected: Chief Architect X13 and Home Designer 2022 and above
  • Platform: NVIDIA  graphics
  • Description: Software closes unexpectedly and then presents the following error: "An internal rendering error has occurred: device removed" typically when opening a camera view or a dialog with a preview window.
  • Solution: There appears to be an incompatibility between Windows 11 and the NVIDIA drivers. At this time, the best solution is to roll back to Windows 10. We are currently working closely with NVIDIA; however, an expected resolution date has not been set. If you'd like, you can contact NVIDIA Support as well. This will help them gauge how this issue is affecting their customers and may also give them an opportunity to collect additional information to help resolve the problem: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/support/consumer/

10th Gen Intel Iris Plus / UHD Graphics

  • Products & Versions Affected: Chief Architect X13 and Home Designer 2022
  • Platform: Windows 10 and 11 with 10th generation Intel Iris Plus or UHD graphics
  • Description: Pixelated artifacts may appear in camera views in the form of a horizontal or diagonal line, and may span the entirety of the active view window.
  • Solution: This issue has been confirmed by Intel (Intel Support Reference #14015244798); however, an expected resolution date has not been set. Please contact Intel Support using the link below if you want to help encourage them to resolve the issue: https://supporttickets.intel.com/servicecenter?lang=en-US.

NVIDIA GeForce 700 Series Graphics Cards

  • Products & Versions Affected: Chief Architect X13 and newer, Home Designer 2022 and newer
  • Platform: Windows
  • Description: Some graphics cards, such as the NVIDIA 700 series, may support shader model 6, but may be lacking a critical feature called "Extended formats TypedUAVLoad". If a graphics card does not support this feature the card will not function with newer versions of Chief Architect software. Information on determining if your graphics card supports this feature is available here.
  • Solution: If you have another computer, check to see if it meets the system requirements. Contact Chief Architect for alternative solutions.

Intel Arc Graphics

  • Products & Versions Affected: Chief Architect X13, Chief Architect X14, Home Designer 2022, Home Designer 2023
  • Platform: Windows
  • Description: Internal Rendering errors or SEH errors appear when taking a perspective camera view.
  • Solution: Chief Architect X13/X14 and Home Designer 2022/2023 do not support hardware ray tracing on Intel Arc graphics. These errors appear when the GPU ray trace functionality is enabled while using these graphics cards. GPU ray tracing has been disabled in update 24.3 to avoid these errors. If using a prior update, uncheck "Enable GPU Ray Tracing" within the Render panel of Preferences to disable the GPU ray tracing and avoid these errors.

RivaTuner Statistics Server

  • Products & Versions Affected: Chief Architect X13
  • Platform: Windows 10
  • Description: RivaTuner Statistics Server may cause Chief Architect to produce an internal rendering error when looking at 3D previews within nested dialog boxes. In rare cases, the 3D preview associated with the Library Browser may also display in an incorrect location.
  • Solution: RivaTuner Statistics Server is often preinstalled on MSI branded systems. It may also be bundled in MSI Afterburner software. Uninstall RivaTuner Statistics Server to resolve the issue.

Intel Graphics Error Associated with macOS 10.15.5 Update

  • Products & Versions Affected: Chief Architect X12, Chief Architect X11, Chief Architect X10, Home Designer 2021, Home Designer 2020, and Home Designer 2019.
  • Platform: macOS 10.15.5, Macs with Intel UHD 600 series graphics
  • Description: Starting with macOS update 10.15.5, Macs containing a single Intel graphics card may experience a graphics card error message followed by freezing or crashing when applying a material in a camera view.
  • Solution: There appears to be a problem within the graphics driver that is packaged with the macOS Catalina 10.15.5 update. We encourage you to report the problem to Apple here: reportaproblem.apple.com. Additionally, when the program crashes you'll often be presented with an option to send a crash report to Apple. Please click the option to send that report to Apple so they have more information on the problem and can hopefully get it resolved quicker.

Nahimic Audio Software

  • Products & Versions Affected: All Chief Architect Products and Versions
  • Platform: Windows
  • Description: Nahimic Audio Software may cause Chief Architect Software to freeze or crash.
  • Solution: Nahimic is often preinstalled on Asus, Gigabyte (AORUS), and MSI branded systems. Nahimic is also present on Alienware and Dell systems bundled within the Alienware Command Center and Alienware Sound Center software. Simply uninstalling Nahimic resolves this issue. When Nahimic is bundled in Alienware Command or Sound Center software, it is necessary to either uninstall the Alienware software or disable the Nahimic service.

Also there is a known Issue with Macrium Reflect :

This is personally experienced, so maybe System dependant? however neither Macrium or Chief Support were able to help.

While Macrium backups of C:\ Drive are running Chief will (can) experience Lockups / Lockouts, where you can't do anything in Chief,

for me these Lockouts last in the range of 3-9 mins IF Chief tries to make a Plan or Layout  SAVE  ie. Auti-save, Auto archive and also manual saves.

for me the only "Fix" was to move all Macrium Backups of C:\ Drive to times outside hours I am not normally using Chief.  Backups of D: E: F: Drives etc

do not seem to effect Chief at all, only C:\ Backups , it seems to me Chief can't write to the SSD Disk so it just "waits" till it can and then things go back to normal.
