  1. Chief Architect design work

I would like the opportunity to talk to you about Chief Architect design work.

I am a creative designer with unique experience and perspective from my collection of work as a designer and builder. I have degrees in structural engineering and architectural engineering and have planned, designed and developed various types of projects over my 30-year career. I use Chief Architect X9 (SSA member) and have used Chief Architect since Version 9. I use GoToMeeting and am technologically versed in all types of software that help me in my design business including, for example, creating flash and 3D pdf files.

Thank you in advance for the opportunity to discuss our working together.

    Regards,
    Charles Volz

  2. Hi, thanks for reading this post. I'm just putting out an ask for someone to take these Architectural drawings and build a Chief Architect model out of it. I tried with a previous set. But failed. Lots of glitchy things and the roof was totally wrong. The drawings have now been revised quite a bit during the permitting process so now I'm looking at just starting fresh and starting with the latest version of CA. I'm worried I'll fail again and then I'll be on here asking pathetically....what did I do wrong? can someone fix my plan pretty please? So, if this project interests you. Shoot me a message. If you make a video lesson out of it...well I'd be THRILLED, as I do want to be able to do this myself one day. I just need a bare bones house model. I'll be doing all the millwork and finishes. 3. wow!!!!! David, you blew my mind with the wall polylines. Thank you for taking the time to do that video, I have learnt so much from that! I was too timid to edit those polylines myself....so it was great to see how you manipulated them and made them look like something based in reality! and Chopsaw, thank you for fixing my plan and attaching it.....I used that fixed plan to go forward and was able to make my presentation deadline. Phewph! You saved me. and thank you Glen. I used those fixes too. my love hate relationship with CA just swung heavily to the love side again. thanks a million Angela
  4. Calvori Proposed.plan Wow! close the file before attaching. brilliant. thanks for that tip Chopsaw and David!
  5. I'm trying to upload my CA file...but I get an Error message "No file was selected for upload". So there's another problem......
  6. Newbie with CA here. Please be kind. I'm trying to model an existing home. We've got a vaulted ceiling in the living room. When I hit Automatic roofs, I get this weird gap between the top of the exterior wall and the roof. The inside also goes really 'trippy', puts planes/surfaces/gaps in all the wrong places. Kind of like a Picasso interpretation of the home. Not my intent. Eeek. when I select one of those weird angled walls, and open it, it's an 'Attic' wall type automatically generated. I'm sure this is a simple fix....I've seen it happen on the forums before, someone posts a cRaZy problem and an expert swoops in and saves the day. it's a beautiful thing to behold. Thank you to the experts on here. You are GOLD!!!!! Angela
  7. Thank you both so very much for your responses, I will try your suggestions asap.
  8. Two questions: #1 - Scale Snafu When creating a custom moulding profile I've used this video for the instructions. https://video.chiefarchitect.com/?search=MOULDING when I open a CAD block to create the profile the line weights are ridiculously thick, can hardly see the 'grab' points and next to impossible to get a dimension. How can I change this? #2 - User Catalogue Missing in Action I muddled through despite the thick line weight and created my lintel profile for my Craftsman doors and windows and saved this profile in my User Catalogue. Then I go back to my plan file and try to use it, and for some reason when I select 'add new' under the mouldings the User Catalogue doesn't have a grey triangle beside it and I can't select it to open and grab my new fabulous custom lintel profile!?!? argh. What have I missed here? See attached screenshots. I know this is probably a very simple fix and I feel stupid already for not getting it. Please be gentle with me. Version of CA I'm using is X8. I've tried shutting the program down and restarting. lol Thanks in advance for your time and assistance! Best, Angela (CA Newbie)
  9. Hello! I'm brand spankin new to CA. Feeling the strain of the learning curve. Hoping someone out there can help me with this teeny tiny little niggly annoyance. In ray trace all the polished chrome knobs in my kitchen look fantastic, bright shiny and mirror like, however in standard view all of the chrome looks black. I understand it can't produce reflections in this render mode but gee whiz, it would look so much more realistic if it just rendered as a light grey. Know what I mean? I'd like to be able to use standard render for quick presentations to clients, but right now, it looks like I'm specifying black hardware, not chrome. Is there an option where I can pick what color 'chrome' renders as in different rendering modes? I attached a picture showing my chrome hardware looking black in standard render. Thanks for reading and thanks in advance for your advice. Cheerio! Angela PS As I typed this question, I did think of a workaround. Create a version just for ray trace (which uses all correctly specified materials/finishes), and for the standard render, change the materials/finishes to how they look in standard render. For example, even though I'm specifying BM HC 165 on the cabinets, it renders waay too dark in standard, so for the sake of rendering I'll just select a color that 'looks' right. means I have to create two copies of one project, which is cumbersome, so I'm open to additional ideas.
