Refresh button does nothing that I can see. I am wanting to see the line extensions as they show in the layout file in my final pdf.
-
Any idea why I loose the line extensions around the perimeter of drawing on the watercolor style when printing to pdf from layout. The extensions show on the layout but go away on the final pdf. I have tried different pdf dpi settings and they still do not show up. You would think that the same view from the layout file would get printed. I have attached a screen shot of my layout screen view and the pdf file after printing to pdf in 144 dpi quality. Notice the lack of line extensions around the roof. Seams like the line extensions are on the interior of the drawings like around windows, etc., but lacking around the extreme perimeter.

Is there a way to "clean up" or "purge" a drawing file and to speed up or maximize drawing times and memory? The drawing I am working on now is getting big and very sluggish.

Can anyone tell me how to connect or group together individual cad segments like lines and arches? I am trying to convert them into a sidewalk but can not connect them into a polyline first so I get the option to convert into a sidewalk.

Sent this into technical support and will update as I get information back. Here's a copy of their response. Hello Dan,Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I am able to reproduce the behavior that you are seeing with this file and have forwarded the information to our Development team of software engineers for their further evaluation. If we can provide any additional information in this ticket, I will respond here as it is made available.

I've just noticed today that I seam to be having some issues with things being a bit mis-aligned from the way they should be. See examples attached. This example is of library note that is exploded. See how the arrow lines are not centered between the text lines? Seams to be the same way in the actual library as well as the drawing. I did upgrade from x8 to x9 last week. Don't remember what day. I am wondering is this has anything to do with the upgrade? Don't know what may be causing this. Example 2 shows a portion of my sheet border, see how text seams to be moved slightly upward from the original? Example 3 shows an elevation tag that I have set up as a library symbol. I think I will also contact Chief support.

This seams like it would be the easiest but I want all my text to NOT be rotated.

I'm having trouble understanding the rotate plan view process. I am working on a plan that is taller than it is wide when looking at the screen. I have sent the plan to layout and have decided it will look better and fit on my 24x36 sheet size being rotated 90 degrees. I first tried to select and rotate all items drawn but am not given that option. So, after some research, I've gone back to chief and used the rotate plan view and have rotated the drawing 90 degrees. I have also went into my text defaults and have unchecked "rotate with plan" except for default label style. All working good so far. When I go back to chief to draw more, and go to move something, why do my keyboard arrow keys still act as though my plan is in the original position? i.e. pushing right arrow key moves the object down instead of right. This will be very frustrating making drawings edits from this point on. Is there a setting for this to be correct??

Here are some screen shots of how my roof plane is set up.
-
Here's what I came up with. I ended up doing it with a roof plane, mitered at the corners, 66/12 pitch, and did a roof cutout at the edge of the window trim, structure of 1" with 12" eave and rake fascia, square eaves. I am happy with how this looks. I originally tried doing the rough shape of the stone with Sketchup and importing it. I would have to redo it if my house size changed or if the window was resized or moved. It worked but for some reason I lost the 2d line stone hatch pattern when sending to layout??? Thanks for everyone's help and ideas.

It would be nice if there was a setting when using pony walls where you could set the bottom and top thicknesses of the wall.

I'm looking for suggestions on how to produce an angled stone wainscot like on my conceptual sketch.

Wondering if anyone out there has had this problem before and/or knows what the problem might be. Line weights at interior corners of my foundation wall are not showing correctly. Exterior corners seam to show correctly. I can attach file if required.
-
I think I just figured it out by cut, copy and paste into place on level 1. It looks like I have lost some floor hatching patterns and room names but seams to be the level I want it on now.
-
Can anyone help? I started drawing a new floor plan. I have it almost done and then noticed I have been drawing on level 0 instead of level 1. So now it thinks I am drawing a foundation. I do not know how to move what I have drawn to be on level 1 where is should be. I have tried using build, floor, exchange with floor above but it will not allow the move saying I can not move a foundation or attic to a different level.

Somehow the scale in my template drawing got way out of wack. I ended up fixing by turning on all layers, window, fill window, erasing a terrain perimeter I had set up in my default drawing, and zooming in to a proper scale when drawing the first wall. I think I was drawing my first wall very far away from the terrain perimeter I had set up. Thank you for the suggestions!!!

my video card should be fine because I can open other drawings I've done and the 3D views display just fine. I will try to investigate the drawing origin suggestion.
-
Does anyone know what is going on with my 3D display? It shows multiple layers when looking in 3D. The patterns also show up blurry. Just doing it on this new drawing I am starting. Existing plans are showing correctly. Don't know where to look.

Trying to figure out a problem. I'm setting up interior cabinet elevations using the wall elevation view tool. I have a special layer set called "cabinet interior elevations", which I have set up the way I want my interior elevations to look. No problem getting views on my main level (floor 1). I now move down to my lower level (floor 0) and I am getting blank screens when using wall elevation tool. It looks like the information is there because it will show up when I use the "all on set" layer set. What is going on here????

I have a template drawing set up that I start with. Eventually maybe I will have the template drawing setup exactly and have nothing to ever change during a project. But, something always comes up that I end up having to adjust on the fly while working on the new drawing. This will only be saved in the new drawing and not the template drawing. Unless I go back and open the template drawing and make the change again in this drawing. In the meantime I have probably started a couple of more drawings and have made adjustments in those drawings as well. It sounds like I have to start exporting every time before I close the drawing and import the settings each time I open the template drawing and start a new project.

I am struggling to manage my layer sets, annotation sets, default settings and wall definitions. I have numerous drawing projects going at once (about 12). Some of them already have different settings. It seams like every time I work on a drawing project I am always tweaking a layer set, annotation set, default drawing setting or adjusting a wall definition setting on the fly. What is the best way to manage this so I am always using the most current settings. If I change a setting in one drawing I am working on, I have to always try to remember to export the updated settings so they are available to import on another drawing. Do I need to start exporting the settings each time I close a drawing and importing all the settings when I open a drawing file. Is it possible to just have these settings automatically be used in any drawing file I open (similar to preference settings) without having to import them into the individual drawings. It seams like there would be no reason to have separate settings for each drawing you work on anyway (unless you have some builder clients with there own graphic standards or something). If I don't export the settings right away when I make the adjustment, I never know what drawing project has the most recent settings. Any suggestions as to how to best manage this would be a big time saver.

I'm looking for suggestions on the best strategy to show foundation walls that are below grade on my foundation plan (i.e. walkout foundation situation-see attachment). I don't know if I should be drawing with cad lines or if there is a proper way to actually do this. I like to have 2 different floor plans for finished basement. 1-foundation plan that shows just the foundation walls and footings, interior bearing wall footings, and 2nd a basement plan with interior framed walls, cabinets, doors, etc. Is it easiest to just draw the foundation wall and footings with cad lines or setup using an actual wall style. If an actual wall, what level would this be drawn on? Can't draw on the same level as the basement floor plan. Also, is there a way to fill in the spaces shown where there is a door or window in the foundation (see attachment)? There is actually a foundation wall below these openings but they don't show. I've been drawing in a cad line to fill. Better way?

Modeling horizontal soffit with unboxed eaves
djhplanning replied to djhplanning's topic in General Q & A
Thanks for the suggestions, I will give both a try -
Can anyone suggest how to model a horizontal soffit with the eaves unboxed? See picture.
