  1. Hey all,

I am sure it's simple, but I can't figure it out.

Attached is a photo of a deck roof I am trying to replicate.  I have it mostly there, however when I join roof planes (specifically the left side of the 12:12 roof to the intersecting 12:4 roof) I still have fascia and junk showing thru.

Do I need to use a truss base so the left side of the 12:12 roof sits on top of the 12:4?

Let me know what you think

    Thanks

  2. Any way the brighten up a camera view with in Chief? I don't want to change light output for light fixtures. Just overall brightness.

I have been exporting the camera view and adjusting it in photoshop, maybe this is the only way?

    Thanks

  3. David, the green highlighted area IS a wall. It is the upper wall in a pony wall. I did it so you could see which part I am trying to push back. They are the same wall type so you can't really tell. I attached another photo without it highlighted so it may be easier to see.

Jerry, I tried that too, however, that upper part of the wall is not actually the attic wall. The bedroom has a ceiling, making the attic wall above the collar ties of that bed room ceiling.

    its a real PITA haha

  4. Hello hello,

Trying to recess the upper part of this wall (highlighted in picture attached) to create a 8" - 12" deep self.  Cant figure it out. Do I have to move the upper section of the room to second floor and open to below to have control of that upper wall?

let me know if you've ever done this!

    Thanks

  5.  Some of the old videos are wrong for X8, if you use live, you won't get any lineweight options. To get lineweight options you must use plot lines.

    Perry,

Mind explaining this a little more? line weight options in layout or plan?

  6. Hello All,

Looking for a new printer, preferably HP that will print 12x18 half sheets! Needs two loading trays and to print in color!

I meet with clients weekly in the design phase and need something to print quality half sheets to show them, once design is complete I send ConDocs to a local print shop to plot on ARCH D.

Looking for opinions from Chief users and what has worked best for you. I have been using an Epson WF-7620 and it's not cutting it. I figure if people are spending a good amount of money on a home, they should have some quality design docs.

    Also, Inkjet or LaserJet?

    Thanks

  7. Hello all,

Using 2016 SketchUp Pro for some built-in details. When I try to import the file into Chief I get an error "This SKP file was created in an incompatible software version. Unable to import."

Anyone else have this occur? and if so, can it be fixed?

  8. I see, I see. That's what I tried the first time, main layer only function to remove fill in foundation wall.  However, my interior walls have a light grey pochet that was disappearing too... guess I have to suck it up and change to a white fill, unless you have another way to work it.

I now see in the plan you posted to Chief that the interior walls were not filled to begin with, so the main layer only wouldn't effect them.

    Thanks as always!

  9. Yeah, I hear ya!

Tried setting the Floor 0 and Floor 1 at the same elevation and can't figure it out.  Even if it did work I feel like it would cause problems later.

Maybe its a little bit of Photoshop after the fact?

    Joey help!? haha

  10. Joe, that is where it looks like it's going, Foundation (Floor 0) and Basement Plan (Floor 1) being the same height in elevation, just labeled separate in chiefs eyes... which lets reference layers work.  I'll give it a shot on a sample plan!

Chuck- tried that and it works for the foundation wall no fill, however deletes my interior wall pochet/fill too

    Thanks for the input!

  11. Quick question-

In Joey Martin’s American Craftsman Home plans posted on the chief site, he has a Foundation plan separate from his Basement floor plan (Attached).

In the Foundation plan the foundation walls the solid lines with a fill, and all other interior walls shown using reference display.

In the Basement floor plan the foundation walls are dashed with no fill, separating the interior walls from the foundation nicely.

I get how to dash the wall lines with different layer sets (Foundation set & Floorplan set), however, I cant figure out how to get no fill without changing it the wall DBX.  Which then causes the fill to disappear in the “foundation” layer set also.

Is it done with reference display?

    What am I missing?

    Thanks

  12. Hey all,

Trying to drop my deck down 12" from where it sits now. I change the Deck DBX to -12" and the only things that drop are the surrounding walls. Is this a glitch or is the deck height based on something else?

    Attached is a picture

    Thanks

  13. Hello all,

I've been searching the forum a bit and can't seem to find a solid answer, so I thought i'd start my own discussion

I am working on a funky home in Vermont that is half timber frame with SIP panels and half traditional frame. I've figured out everything besides the roof.

Looking for advise on that detail...

    - How have you done SIP panels on the roof?

    - What have you used for rafters?  (polysolids? soffits?)

    Thanks as always

    Austin

  14. Hello all,

Trying to accomplish the attached detail for rafter tails.  Any and all recommendations will help.

I have been messing around with sub-fascias and overhang sizes, trying to learn how Chief "thinks" but coming up short

    Thanks as always

    Austin

    P.S. The roof is 16-12
