  1. There are no shadows in all 3?

I did use final view with shadows, the sun angle in all 3 was facing into the room, so maybe because the view is up close the shadows ended up being behind the camera.  I'll be honest, I'm not satisfied meaning I was hoping to have gotten even more crisp final views, and greater realism (considering all objects were modified meaning the materials, bump maps and so on and so forth.  I get this feeling that I'm close to realizing what is my mistake, but at the moment I can't yet put my finger on it.

  2. limitless8 - As someone who does a lot of Ray-Traces, I can tell you that one of the most important things in achieving a great image is lighting. Once you learn how to properly light a space and also understand the function of the various settings and how to manipulate them, you'll start getting very impressive results. This video from Chief's Knowledge Base https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/1909/ray-tracing-tips-and-techniques.html?playlist=103 is well worth watching. It is a great tutorial as it covers the most important steps to creating a great ray-trace image.

Eric Thank you very much for the link, tomorrow going to take the time and have a look, thanks for your help!

  3. No offense taken; and I'm a he for further reference.

Could they be better I think so of course. As mentioned, question is what to do modify in the trace themselves to make it better and more realistic.

As for interior decorating and all, well that's a very subjective matter, one man's trash is another man's treasure.  I think the key point is as was mentioned, what can be modified in the trace settings/lighting/materials that could produce better results.

  4. I personally love Chief, sure the raytraces sometimes can take a few hours for 100 passes, not to mention if the materials are all imported and created by me (makes the full plan quite big and slows it down)...but sometimes if I want to add some quick realism I dip into a simple free program, and add a bit realism, a few examples will be included.

Any tips are always welcome; some clients are really picky and want almost a picture perfect image as if it was real...others realize that this is enough and know that the final result once its all built will beat all expectations.

  5. @Larry (humblechief), sorry didn't realize you are one and the same; again thanks for the tip, yeah not sure why it threw the terrain on the 3rd instead of the 2nd but I'm working on it. You're right, gotta muscle through it and keep trying to get it right.  Sadly I know I made a few mistakes with the building itself because I was in a hurry to give a demonstration of the potential outcome, so soon enough I'll take the time and build it back up from the beginning and make sure everything is right this time  (hopefully the terrain will play again then).

@Chopsaw:  I checked the post, I'm going to check whether or not I have the same issue; sadly in that post for some reason the two pictures don't load at all for me, your screenshot does whilst the poster's photo's don't..

  6. My advice for laptop:  Try finding an alienware laptop 18 inches (used); just have somebody with proper IT skills run a few tests to make sure the graphics card is still alive; in most cases I think you could find a decent used alienware or asus rog laptop for around 500-750$.  It'll be powerful enough with enough ram and all to do the field work.

As for a desktop at 1500$, your best bet is finding a buddy whose good with tech to put one together for you, sites like newegg and others have discounts here and there from time to time and you could put together a decent machine...

I personally spent 4,000 $ on my system (desktop).  34 inch LG um95 screen (lots of work space), but you could get 2 dell full hd monitors, or one larger one like a benq.
As for processor I put in a i7 5930k 6 core monster, they should have some discounts somewhere, asus v rampage motherboard, 32gb ddr4 ram, 2 ssd's at 256gb samsung 850's, and one 3tb for other stuff.
Graphics card, go with a Asus strix geforce 980 it'll do the job on all fronts.

You can mix and choose, as somebody previously said go for powerful processor and video card, the rest you can put together here n there.

benq was my #2 choice after the LG.

  7. So yeah the video helped in many ways, yet regardless of how I play around with the values and expand or resize the elevation areas, I still get 2 issues:

    1)  The sauna window is always covered by terrain, regardless of what I do (whilst the spa doors are open)

    2)  The terrain literally grows into the SPA area....

Any suggestions? Maybe the guy from the video could take a look at it?

Attaching a view of what is happening.

  8. Hey All!

So, I rarely had to use terrain modification tools (therefore never bothered to learn them :( ), seeing as most customers had flat landscapes.  So in this situation, the plan is attached, I have the following issue:

right below the motor court, leading to the summer 'pool house', there should be a lowered terrain; the idea is that when owners leave the spa from the underground floor, they walk out into a nice garden type pit (landscapers will make it beautiful), and can walk up the stairs to the bbq pool house, also in this pit there will be tanning beds and couches to relax in the summers.

I'd like to hear some suggestions as to how I can modify the terrain in a way that all windows of the underground spa are visible, and work with that area to create stairs and lounge zone.

If there is a video tutorial then please point me to it, any help will be greatly appreciated!!

  9. The 2 extra cores I know will make a diff, atm I have a quad core alienware and it has been doing it's job farely well, with 6 cores I can imagine it'll do what I need without having 8 cores.

As for the monitor, for me it's not as much about the size, I won't go under 27 if single, but preferably 32.  I'm looking more for advice when it comes to color accuracy, response time, etc. Maybe I'm mistaken and maybe response time is only important when it comes to gaming.  I just want very good colors to come out, and while the samung 4k monitor delivers over a billionr colors and seems to receive good reviews, I'm wondering do I need the 4k, or will WQHD do the trick, and if so which monitors do users recommend.

  10. Hey Jon thanks for the reply. Well the 4k samsung I was offered cosys just under 500$ 28 inch. I just love techy stuff so 4k had its how should we say temptations. Except CA the other purposes are as everybody else's movies surfing lil gaming and we'll some android coding (developing an android app).

I guess at the end of the day 4k won't really give me more in terms of CA. Might even prolong rendering. While at 2560x1440 it'll be good enough. color accuracy is definitely important. That's why I was recommended the BenQ 3200 because supposedly it was designed for prolonged cad work etc.

The samsung you linked I saw online and considered it too. might even go for it if nothing else comes up.

As for 5960x vs overlcocked 5930. I know it had 2 extra cored though not sure if I need that difference?

  11. Guys I need your collective help, thoughts, advice.

    My system is almost finished.

    I7 5930k overlcocked to 4.2

    Asus rampage v extreme

    32gb ripjaws 4 2400mhz

    asus strix GeForce 980 gtx

samsung ssd Evo pro 2x 25kg

    Ed caviar 1 tv

    1200w thermaltake am ur

    Thermaltake gt 10 snow edition

What monitor to add? For example one offer I have is the samsung 4k monitor u 25 90

    BenQ bl3200pt

I know one is 4k the other is 2560.

My issue is on one hand 4k would be fun but sadly it does not turn 90 degrees. And heard it is good but isn't.

What do you think guys 4k budget or 2560 qhd monitor?

I would be forever grateful for some advice if anybody owns these or other monitors that they use? I decided that dual monitor might not be for me.

Yet I'm open to advicseeing as one offer I had was dual dell's at 100 with the thinnest bezel.

Let me know what you all think.

  12. Apologies for the previous post, somebody was trying to convince me to save $$

I think the end result will be :

Intel core i7-5930k put to 4.2

    Asus rampage V extreme

zalman reserator 3 max dual (maybe even double up on this)

    4gb Geforce gtx 980

    corsair vengeance LPX DDR4 DRAM 2133 МГц C13 Red 16gb X 2 (so total 32gb)

    thermaltake level 10 gt black

    corsair 240gb neutron GTX series

2tb western digital caviar sata III 6gb/s

    pioneer bluray bdr-209dbk

    asus xonar DGX

    win 8.1 pro x64.

    asus echelon mouse and keyboard

    2 Asus vx22 monitors 1920x1080p fullhd.

  13. wanted to ask, on cpu benchmark, when comparing 3 processors, the amd fx 8350 8 core comes not as high in rating but is valued well, meaning it has 8 cores, and it goes up to 4.2...

how about this the amd fx 8350
    Amd 970 chipset

    NVIDIA GeForce GTX TITAN BLACK

    6144mb

    Thermaltake Urban R21

    and 32gb ddr3 at 1600mhz?

it seems a lil weak on the ddr3 versus ddr3, the card is good, while the processor is rated lower...it comes with 120gb ssd and 3tb...any thoughts? AMD FX-8350 Eight-Core
