Hello Jim,
Thank you for taking the time to report your concerns!
This issue is actually not a bug though it is a unique, but perhaps unfavorable, outcome of the current program logic as it relates to door glass and room type functions in this scenario. While our human eyes and minds tell us, “Hey! That’s an exterior wall on the outer side of the building!” the software can only tell exterior walls are truly exterior because they:
- Have an interior room on one side of the wall but no wall defined room on the other side
or
-There is an interior room on one side and an exterior or exterior hybrid defined room on the other side.
As Kyle pointed out in our in-program Help, our rooms types have specific non-editable functions that are either Interior, Exterior, or Hybrid, and an Open Below room is one of the Hybrid Room Types. What’s less clear from the current wording is that while Open Below is considered to be a Hybrid function room type, the unique opaque glass logic in doors specifically do not recognize Open Below rooms as exterior rooms while the other hybrid types are.
As shown in the attached section of our in-program help, interior door glass is intended to be transparent. There are not very many scenarios where open below rooms exist in an exterior context with door glass compared to interior scenarios. Most Open Below room scenarios are interior.
Again, as Kyle suggested, to get the desired result while still excluding a floor platform, it would be best to change the Open Below room to a different Exterior or Hybrid room type like Patio so that you can then navigate to the Structure panel and uncheck ‘Floor Under This Room’ to get the open below benefit while still using a room that’s recognized as an exterior room for the sake of the door glass.
