Mac's haven't been very compatible with CAD software for pretty much.. forever.. how are you surprised?
Mac salesperson: Its not upgradable, will always be a hassle, only compatible with other apple products, but hey.... its white and glossy!
Mac userbase:
Also that machine is probably still super capable for almost anything except X17, far from "obsolete".
Just the usual unwanted $0.02 from a former mac user that's made the switch.
Make the switch and never worry about your PC again.

we can kind've do this already, some info might be missing such as spacing etc. see video:
@tundra_dwellersee video for callout maybe? So this is all happening with macros etc? Ive tried figuring this out but some items dont really report back what you need without customizing every label. If only my employer believed in saving time with templates *facepalm*
I'd pay outa pocket for some extensive macro training, but unfortunately cant do the whole system outa my pocket hah.

I wondered what Revit detailing might be like, and the first thing that popped up for me on YouTube was this. Pretty good stuff. Makes me want to ask Chief for some mods.
not shown in the video but reference item being auto labelled via the arrows, thats a big one.

What exactly are you asking? Do you want to know how to make deck joists automatically break over a beam? Or just to make the Material List only show 12' lengths?
Your question is a little vague. Try to be more specific to get better answers. Best to create a new thread instead of tagging onto an older thread, and include a plan file, or at least a screenshot or two describing the problem.
Thanks for the reply Chris
I was trying to get the joists to break & lap over the beam underneath and keep to 12' boards for the build.
I did end up making things work by making a foundation level under the deck room and used the bearing lines where i wanted the break. When it was just a deck on level 1 without the lower level, the joists weren't breaking over the beam, with or without bearing lines etc.

has anyone gotten this to work? what about on a deck? my joists are building in at 20' long and i want to split them to max 12' boards etc.

Hi,
I'm curious, is anyone really using material lists for pricing projects? I've played around with it intermittently for years and always come around to sense that the amount of work that would make it reliable seems intense, and then I worry that I'd put all that work in and it still won't give me the information I need, or perhaps I wouldn't trust it. And how would I keep it current?
Just this morning - I tested a simple 'update material list'. In an active project, created a material list, I added the cost of concrete, updated master, saved the file, created a new blank file, made a quick box building with a foundation, created material list ... and the concrete cost did not appear. I checked the master, and the cost is there but it didn't populate in the job material list. I did click 'update from master', no luck.
thoughts?
thanks
Id love to hear peoples thoughts on this also. This would be such a handy feature if I knew more about using it.

"workstation" computers in general seem like a scam these days, unfortunately I've heard nothing good about those ada RTX 3000 etc cards. Good luck.

Joe, I know you are a busy guy but did you ever finish up the macro list? I've done some forum searching but can't find anything. I am definitely interested.

3) You could also try thickening the roof over the entry porch area to cover the frame.
I think this is the way to go, or at least how i fixed this last time i came across it.
If all else fails...

Wow! To each his own but you guys are way off base IMHO.
I would venture to say that Eric has spent more of his time
helping posters to this forum than 99% of the members here.
Over time I can see where he has come to the conclusion
that It is far more worthwhile to teach people to do things
for themselves than it is to do those things for them over
and over again. The old "teach a man to fish" thing.
I can see the wisdom of this approach. Are we here to learn
the program or only to be spoon fed solutions?
sure... but i also have spent plenty of time trying to figure this out myself already, i came here for an answer, not a cryptic picture that shows nothing with no explanation at all and if you look thru his posts they are mostly all like this with some cheeky attitude then someone else actually explaining it. If i want training, i'll pay someone polite that actually shows a history of helping people instead of one cryptic post after the other. Ive been thru trade school and 4 years of college otherwise, the best teachers were the ones who took the time and explained things clearly, the worst were the cryptic buttheads who made you struggle and guess and waste time. Same goes for online. Look at his post up top, and tell me you get ANYTHING from it.
Now if anyone has something actually constructive to add to this that would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise i think i have the wall fixed up

I havent done any exterior "painting" on that part at least. Its supposed to be the same as the attic wall above, but it seems to default back to an interior wall type, or none at all.
I have it now so its all one type. Not sure what the heck i did but it worked. Thanks to everyone that gave some useful advise / ideas to try.

This wall here is what seems to be my main problem. Ive tried setting the wall type the same as the rest of my exterior walls but when i do it either stops at the btm roof line in the right wall type, or extends thru like this with a different wall type.

I told you exactly where to find the problem, so what's the problem? I did not want to offend you by spoon feeding you the answer as if I thought you were incapable of figuring it out on your own.
agree to disagree, your comment added nothing but and image and confusion.

I'm not sure if you received an answer yet, but I downloaded your file and quickly realized your roof plan does not touch the wall - thus Chief doesn't know you need an attic wall where you would like one.
when I move the plane up against the wall - the attic populates as it should:Thanks for this, i have that one figured out now, but for some reason the one on the lower side of the garage is still acting up. Would this have something to do with setting the proper wall type below roof intersections?

I dont mean to offend... but maybe i do... looking through your posts, are all of your "answers" this cryptic and rude? This response adds nothing to the conversation, and pretty much only serves to your ego.

Help the helpers by attaching the plan file. It cannot be open in Chief when you do, and all that's needed is the plan, not a full backup.

So im having some troubles with this roof line / wall intersection. As you can see here on the first image i cant get the top wall to stay set as an exterior wall. The 2nd image of the front wall is giving me the same issues, im on the attic floor of the plan but cant seem to get this wall to actually come up and connect with the roof plane. Basically these 3 walls that separate the house from the garage are giving me nothing but issues. Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance and happy holidays.

You need to create a ceiling plane in the room you want those parallel chord trusses over, set slop of ceiling to what you want interior slop to be, then build framing and that should do it.
-
So this has been happening on almost every mono slop style build ive been doing lately and i cant for the life of me figure out why.... But when i go and build my roof framing, most of the trusses are ignoring the 2' overhang and building a full truss right to the end, causing this lovely effect in the posted image. Any ideas?

Good morning,
Has anyone created blocks for easy use and transformation of wall panels/ slat panels? that can be 2 colors? and would be willing to share? I've been doing these custom every time and would like to find a way to simplify. I'm a fairly new user and don't know all the tricks yet. Thanks!
What about making a custom cabinet door face and using that? or even make an array 6 / 12 / 24" wide etc and save them as symbols to create a system.

I see your over in Calgary, I know here in MB there are a few different ways of going about this. Like JKEdmo said above, standing seam or TPO membrane are the most common. You can use other metal roofing types with some extra ice and water guard on the bottom edge of the roofline. What is the structure? There are also going to be different regulations depending on the application of the building, ie storage shed vs residential etc.
Most pole sheds etc are just 24" truss spacing / 1x4 purlins / foil backed roll insulation / 20" pan Standing Seam roofing.

My first guess would be that sometimes with a new install you need to re-adjust your power settings. Make sure its not set to "Power Saving" and set to "Performance"
Maybe?
