  1. Have been using CA for many years, long before there was an X in the number. I have designed and built renovations and new homes for most of my life. Have extensive on site experience dealing with unforeseen structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, finishes, cabinetry, etc. I try to use that knowledge in my design work to minimize problems from design to build. All of my work has been done in Canada, no experience in Australia, I can read through the codes and become familiar with the differences. I have extensive experience in Auto Cad, and most other relevant software. Run a very high end computer system with a 32 core processor and a 40" 4K monitor. Being from Canada used to both metric and imperial systems. I can produce full architectural drawings, part of my current business is to do as built CAD drawing for electrical and mechanical companies for large commercial jobs. I am semi retired, looking for a steady part time drawing job. Very reliable, if we agree on a time line, it will be completed. Have both CA 14 and 15 James Hughes
  2. If you are still looking for help. Have extensive experience in residential construction and design. As well as knowledge of entertainment systems. Feel free to email me at j.hughes@hms9.net if you are still looking for help. James Hughes
  3. Would like to also mark my place in line for X16. Working with a group trying to develop a passive house standard. Any added functionality in the software to help with their unique requirements will help. Not to mention having the best possible output for their presentations. We also have to output as much data as we can for processing in other software, for thermal calculations. If X16 has more export options that would help. The exterior walls are 14" thick, with almost no thermal bridging.
  4. This can be done. It is not the best way to communicate details to a contractor. They will be more interested in accurate dimension ed drawings. There are a few things that have to be considered if you want to proceed with a 3D model. It will be at a very small scale 250:1, unless you want to pay for very expensive printing on a large printer and expensive shipping. Second, the model will be monochrome. 3D printers do not print with all the colours of a rendering. The colourful models are hand painted after printing. If you would still like to proceed, will need a copy of your Chief files, your grading plan if you have it in a CAD or Chief format. First will be to get them both imported into Chief Architect 15. From this point we can give very accurate renders, and more important, very accurate cut throughs, showing all important elevations points. We can then export this to a 3D solid format, clean it up, so it can be printed, and print the model for you. James
  5. Depending on your time line, I should be able to help with your design. I am mostly booked until Jan, but have time then. I am in Ontario, Kitchener area. Have done many, many reno's, am very familiar with the code.
  6. In Autocad you can add scaled dimensions in Layout. It would be great if there was a way to set the scale for dimensions in layouts. I have to add several dimension details to a bathroom plan view, as the client wants to avoid cut tile. There will be a few close up views in the layout, that will have short dimensions shown. These then show up on the large layout view. Unless I put each group on a different layer, and turn layers on and off. It would be much easier to just add the dimensions in Layout view.
