Well looky looky, I zoomed out about a mile and there they are.

I had my plan and layout complete and my clients then wanted me to reverse it. I used the "Reverse Plan" option and my layout was a mess with multiple views flat out missing and the note callouts missing from my front elevation. Is this consistent with the problems you've seen and why you recommend using the "reflect about" method?
-
No I did not and that is exactly what I needed. I checked the box and deleted the attic walls and this is the result. Still a little funkiness going on but I can live with it. Thank you everyone for all your help.

I am the framer

Got it. I may have to do this manually, I don't see any reason to break this wall with plates (and I obviously need to get my framing reference set correctly for the 1st and 2nd floors to get those studs lined up).

I built my wall framing. I don't see a spot in the dialog box where I can just do the attic walls.

framing

Thanks for the responses. Here's the back-clipped view. I think this is helpful. I just wish I could get the attic walls to show because I will probably want to run those studs full length.

I'm doing a story and a half plan with the north wall being a very large gable with balloon framing at the stairs. I want to do a full framing elevation of the entire wall but the "Open Wall Detail" will only allow me to select one section (1st floor or 2nd floor) at a time and I can't get a wall detail of the attic walls at all. Is there a way to accomplish this that I'm not aware of? As an example, here's the 1st floor wall detail and a shot of the entire elevation. How do I show the entire north wall framing? Thx

Stair rake wall won't connect to balcony wall

@rgardner - I didn't downvote your response. I actually really appreciate it when people take time out of their busy lives to help me while I'm trying to learn how to use Chief. And we Washington Staters need to stick together. -
For the life of me I can't get the gap out of these two walls. I'm sure it's something basic I'm not doing but I couldn't find a solution. https://1drv.ms/u/s!AicefBJfAFklkV8DHLSgk1K_z97h

I don't know why that's happening (which makes my comment somewhat pointless) but that birdsmouth cut is way too deep. Code around here is no more than 1/3 of the rafter depth can be removed for a birdsmouth.

Mick and everyone - Thank you.

Thanks KBird The problem was a legacy issue from starting out on Home Designer. I did what you suggested and any new plans using the provided templates have the correct default sets. Unfortunately the plan I was working on did not update so I'll have to figure out a workaround (or redo it).
-
I'm new to CA and I've noticed I only have a single default set - the "1/4" Scale annotations". When I downloaded CA should there have been more or do I have to create all of the others I see listed in videos by scratch?
-
I dunno. I'm looking at how that entire section of roof is framed and it seems very strange. I wouldn't build it like that in real life. I'm reading the X14 thread you posted and they're talking about templates possibly being a problem. This plan was started in Home Designer Pro and then I upgraded to CA 13. Do you think that could be a problem?

Chopsaw - thanks for the reply and video. I hadn't noticed that "special snapping" check box before... there are just so many little details to be aware of. I have no idea why those rafters were framed with 1x12's... I don't believe I did that (but I must have, right). Anyway, that certainly wasn't my intention. It also explains why the rafter tails of my returns were sticking down through the bottom of my eave soffit. That was driving me nuts too... I'd rebuild the roof framing and things would be fine and then I'd look later and those rafter tails would be sticking down through the eaves again.

Hi Steve - thanks for the help. The thing that was really screwing me up was the "Roof Cuts Wall at Bottom" notation and how it prevented me from getting that attic wall in the correct position. All of the other wall issues stemmed from that - the siding and drywall on both sides worked correctly until the RCWaB was unchecked and then all hell broke loose. I know there are still a lot of details that need work on this design, I just wanted to get this issue fixed before I moved ahead. Thanks for the tips on getting the walls to join properly, I don't know how many times on a dormer situation the corners don't join up. What's worse is that everything will be fine and then out of nowhere I'll look at the exterior view and some frickin' corner doesn't have siding covering it... maddening.

That may be the case, It was a tricky roof area. Here's the plan, any ideas? https://1drv.ms/u/s!AicefBJfAFklkV0PJU9sJMdV8W74

Sorry if this question has been asked before but I wasn't able to find an answer. On many occasions rafters are showing through drywall and I can't figure out why. Can anyone help?
-
Thanks Mark - obviously you spotted my porch roof was messed up and that I needed to put in the correct siding instead of applying it. I appreciate your effort.

Solver - I can't thank you enough for the help. I figured I'd messed something up but just lacked the knowledge as to what it could be. In the future I will concentrate on letting CA do things automatically and I won't get fooled by frieze issues. And thank you for going over using polylines for a belly band... I saw a video on it last night but was so frustrated with my attic walls that I didn't do any revisions. Than you for your time and knowledge. Bob

Hi - Newbie user here and I am struggling with attic walls. I think I'm pretty quick on the uptake in general but attic walls either work as I'd expect or I can't make any sense of them. There is no in between. I've even had times where I've placed a dormer and one sidewall looks right and the other is messed up. I'm sure my inexperience is mostly the problem but it can't always be me, can it? Here's a plan with 2 gable end walls that are having issues. On the front one I simply cannot get the frieze holding to show up. For some reason it shows up in the attic wall behind it and not on the exterior. I'm at a loss as how to fix it. The other gable is just a mess with a multitude of problems. 1. I cannot get the siding to be the same. It's shows up as a mix of board and batten (as I want) and lap siding (which I don't). The material eyedropper will not work on the messed up areas. 2. I'm struggling placing the windows in this wall. I'm not particularly fond of the style/placement that I have currently but it's so difficult to get them placed at all I'm leery of making any more changes until I have this figured out. I finally got them on the wall but if I try to play with them they'll either display improperly or disappear entirely. The only way I can get a window into the wall is to add it high up in the peak in a perspective full overview and then slide it down. I cannot place a window directly into the lower portion of the wall. 3. The frieze molding is all jacked up. I would sincerely appreciate it if anyone can help. Here's a link to the plan from OneDrive. https://1drv.ms/u/s!AicefBJfAFklkSaaP8siwLO5C5Sv?e=ElQmjP Bob
