I will try again tomorrow
-
Eric, Thanks for the video.
Sadly, despite many reviews (and referring to the help files) I am unable to get a working solution and my attempts are getting further away from a working solution.
I would send another plan file, but it is not helpful.
As I have spent far too long on this I may have to list my attampts as a fail.
I can get to the point of opening and editing a symbol, but I don't know where to go from there (does it need to be saved as a seperate file? how/where?
Regards
John

You also have the same issue with your cook-top to the left.
I am aware of that one , it should resolve itself when the worktop is over the oven

Yes, but not ideal, I had no idea that it would be such a faff, after all,
All I wanted to do was ...
insert a built-in oven into a 600 Wide base

My thanks to those who attempted to help me find a solution.

The opening may not be large enough. Check the dimensions of your chosen appliance.
I did attempt to manually edit the dimensions, but it did not work for me.

Is the oven symbol a Library Browser one
Yes, (standard single oven). But I would be happy to use another, if it worked.

Here is a tech article that might help:
https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00767/creating-a-new-material.html
It's not quite as trivial as just taking a picture of some tile and then make a material out of it. If you don't crop the image properly, it won't display very well. I would recommend that you try to crop it along the center of the grout. You should also try to make sure your lighting is pretty even or it won't look as good either. The other thing that can be helpful is to make sure your pattern matches your image so that any view that include lines will look reasonable.
Thanks for the link Dermot
(my original result is not perfection )

Thanks.
Got it.
3d/Material Painter/Material Painter/Select Material/add New Material/Texture/Texture Source....
..and browse to the file you want.

I would like to take a photo of a tiled floor, to use in CA.
Can I import the image directly?
Is this possible?
How would I achieve this?
Thanks for looking

Ok it looks like you dove right into Plan Defaults which will effect every new "Full" camera you open in the plan file.
My well known "bull in a china shop" style

I do now!

Done.
Thanks again.
...and now on to my next problemette.
I will post in the next hour, if you are about???

Thanks Chopsaw and all for your help.
I went edit/default settings/camera tools/full camera/edit/backdrop/select backdrop, to select my file.
Then I went OK/done.
It seems to be sticking.
But it's showing in the other windows as well now ...............

Thanks Maureen , ideally though saving them to the specific cameras they are being used with, is I think a better option for me (if I can discover how to do it.)

so you will want to save them to the specific cameras they are being used with.
Otherwise there are also plan defaults for each type of camera
Thanks.
I have just spent @ 90 minutes trying to find more info on the above options. (too many menu options i think , and failed to find the solution in the help files.).
No luck I'm afraid.
Would it be possible to get more specific (i.e. idiot proof) instructions ?
Sorry to be a pain.

It been many years since I used CA or any similar software, so please be patient.
I have got my image into user catalog/my backdrops. When I click on it, then click on the window, it shows up as I would expect.
But when I save and reopen it's gone. I am back with the default blue clouds.
Any help appreciated.
How do I get the oven down and into the base unit?

Now solved.
Thanks in particular to SusanC and Eric.
