Well Good Day! I've got 12" Earthen Walls. Windows and placement no problem. We would also like to have inserted into the wall from interior to exterior something like -> two glass bottles with the necks cut off and placed cut to cut. Or one end of the bottle on the Interior and one end of the bottle on the Exterior. Imagine two colored wine bottles fitted together. I tried making a 3D solid in glass, however it was not transparent allowing light to go through. What options might there be to accomplish this task, having glass on both interior and exterior?? The included image is a bit overkill, however the same idea. Thank you! - Drew

Good day, I drew in 3D Solid a custom corner board, replicating the EZ Trim EZ31 - extruded Aluminum Outside Corner. I can manually place the corner 'on top' of the corner - kinda - however by this method it will not pull back the siding material on either side (which I figured). See the image included which shows the siding material needs to be pulled back slightly from the corners for the aluminum outside reveal to show. For the material - within the - Open Object / Layers. The Default Layer is "Corner Boards". The Drawing Group is "24 - Corner Board/Quoin". I've also tried place the default corner board, and then try 'Replace Molding'. However that would not pull up my material in this manner. So I suspect I don't have one of the properties correct. Might someone know how to remedy this to use this new created material. Thanks Jason, I tried a couple more different options including yours. And I may post back later if I come up with a desired result. I believe the one I am looking for is my line# DW20, as it does not include the words 'accessory' or '3D Solid' in the description. Thanks again. - Drew

Thank you Eric, That make perfect sense. I was still running into the situation of having it populate into the Material List under Decks instead of anywhere else. Might there be a way to designate this for a deck purpose? Thank you

Good day all, I'm not sure if this is accomplishable, and maybe I'm just wanting to see how accurate Chief is to a manual deck take-off. I know a manual take-off is not difficult, I've done it may times. I think this question may be for my own information as to the limits and or doables of Chief. I've created a few 3D Solids and make them sized appropriately for deck framing applications. Such as Beams, Posts and Joists. With that, I've changed the material to Pressure Treated Lumber showing the color and incised marks. Might there be a way to - for this question let's use the phrase 'open object' loosely, as it may not be the correct phrase or choice of words. And then somehow, in the Components category on the left, (or somewhere) insert description, size, ETC, and any other pertaining information to THEN be displayed/or have info pulled into the Material List. Not sure if this is feasible with the direction I've taken, or if I need to 'Make a Duplicate' of something else existing that pulls into the Material List, and alter the information to display alterations. Then in the end, display in the Deck ID# as seen in the jpg. I have done a search, however that has been uneventful. Again - thanks so much in advance for your assistance. Have a great day! - Drew

Good day, I've searched the forum prior to post and can not locate conversation regarding a - Surface Mount Kitchen Counter Receptacle. The Pop-Up type - see image. In October of 2023 an electrical code had been changed. Now on islands you need to have a Surface Mount Kitchen Counter Receptacle, instead of one mounted to the side of a base cabinet. At the moment, it does not matter if some can still install a receptacle into the side of a base cabinet, I am curious as to if there are Surface Mount Kitchen Counter Receptacle? As I can not locate in the library. Thanks so Much!!

Good day all, I thought I had seen somewhere where for example: If you have an existing library item such as Fir Tongue and Groove (under Clopay) - Referenced Files\Clopay.zip#zip:FirPlank_CAAB.jpg One is able to change it from Fir to another species such as Oak. I was going to use this Oak which may be close enough for the client to visualize - Referenced Files\Andersen.zip#zip:Oak-White2r(30) Not sure if this can really be done - OR what is the simplest way to archive a horizontal 6" T&G look to tie in the pre-made Hood Vent from Dura-Supreme Thank you

Good day, For some reason I can not figure out, a small section of wall has been created at the lower end of a stairwell, close to the bottom (last) tread. I've selected both from plan view and 3d to delete. Anyway after removing the small bump-out wall it leaves a ceiling which I can not seem to click and adjust and it applies no drywall to that area of ceiling. May be after the ceiling below is remove it will allow the drywall to apply to the ceiling???? Some images are below. Also, I know it is easier for some to just open the plan and look - totally get it - I've tried to remove a variety of items to get the plan to 14mb, but not successful. Yes I know the light does not need to be there - it just is. So I uploaded a backup zip file to my site which can be downloaded here: https://www.pacificridgellc.com/images/chief/09-11-23_Dining_Attic_Wall.zip It is 26mb. So I've only been using chief just over 1yr so I am sure there are other ways to get a 3-story plan smaller. Thank you for your assistance and insight in advance! -

Good day, I've ran into the same situation with regards to several copies of an original with different names for different applications. If it works for you - Go to the Library Catalog and Right Click on your User Catalog and choose - New > Folder. Then rename or Right Click on the new folder and re-name it (for example) the current Job or Client your working on, and safe the files there. This way it unclutters your User Catalog - you just have a few Job/Client folders is all. I hope this may be helpful as this is what I do and helps keep less clutter...and copies of copies. In regards to the light - DB's answer is the solution. Have a great day!

SOLVED - Tried everything but this: Click on the schedule - grab the Diamond at the Top left and D R A G it to the left. In doing so this will reduce the size of the image to be in more proportion the the text size. Before and after photos below -

When working with a longer list in length (rows stacked vertically) to fit onto the blueprints, a larger font would be easier to read like the image below. I know this may be a bit larger - it's 5x larger than what is current.

Hi Gene, Thank you and I'm sorry I don't follow where to make the changes you mentioned.

While trying to increase the 'Font' or 'Text' size (a number that measures the size of characters such as letters, numbers, and punctuation marks on a screen or printed page), I am unable to make them readable because they are so small. Here was my Process: 1) Right Click on Cad Details in Project Browser 2) New Cad Detail 3) Rename Accordingly 4) Go To - Tools/Schedules 5) Choose Desired Schedule from Schedules List 6) Click in New Cad Detail to Insert on to Page It seems no matter what Text Style I choose to change the Font Size to a Larger Font, it appears to increase Everything in proportion (images and white space). If I choose - Scale Images from General Tab, it will make images smaller. However the Rows remain the same height, defeating the purpose of enlarging the Main Text within the body of the schedule. When you choose - File/Send to Layout, Fonts are really Tiny I'm sure there is a solution that I may apply......somewhere.

Good day, Have you tried..... 1) Locate the material in the 'Library Browser' that you want to use - Right Click and Duplicate. 2) A 'Copy' of the Original in now placed into Your User Catalog. 3) The new Copy is now grayed over - Right Click the new copy (in your user library) and Rename by moving the curser with the arrow keys to the end of the current name and add something like 'xxxx-Matte'. (if that is what you want - xxxx being the original name) 4) Next, Right Click on your New Material you just renamed, and make another copy. Rename in the same way and maybe call this one xxxx-Plastic" 5) Right click on your new item called 'xxxx-Matte' and go into the 'Define Material' as you have, and change to what you want for Matte. 6) Now go to your other new item called 'xxxx-Plastic' and change any settings you want for Plastic. If understood, that should help by modifying each material for you to apply independently to achieve your desired results. Have a great day
