  1. I feel like I basically need an attic wall there, since the program won't let two normal walls on the same floor be on top of each other.

After watching a couple of your videos I've played around with breaking the dormer wall at the knee wall, toggling roof cuts wall at bottom, and dragging the wall handles around manually for both upper and lower walls. One thing seems to break another.. any other hints?

  2. Any time I shift an entire structure in a plan file using Edit Area, my interior paint returns to default Bone color and exterior siding gets confused as to what goes where. For example, my stone wanescot will suddenly be applied to an entire wall instead of just 3ft high. I'm not sure if this is a glitch or I have something setup incorrectly. Any thoughts?

  3. Any way to change the pitch of auto generated roof returns? It uses the pitch of the adjoining roof by default (10/12 in my case) but I'd like to lower that to a 2 or 3 pitch for the return. Can't find anything about this on here or in the Help docs.

Actually it is most likely your vapor barrier.

Hah! You're exactly correct. When I made this detail a couple weeks ago, I was confounded as to why changing my line weight for that line wouldn't thicken my vapor barrier, as I wanted the position to be easily visible. I must have settled on a weight of 2560 and left it..

Why does line weight not update until you go to print to PDF? That seems a little off..

  5. I need to go from a 36" stem wall to a 40". I swear I have done this successfully by simply editing stem wall height in  Defaults>Foundation and it updated automatically. Now that does not seem to be the case. That's the only place I can find to change stem wall height, none of the other wall dialogues (Defaults>Walls>Foundation or individual wall spec dialogues) have height. I really don't want to rebuild the foundation, as I've done a lot of work on it. Any thoughts?

  6. Yup, can't edit floor finish from floor 0. And can't edit structure from floor 1. Lots of minutae to learn with this software but man is it awesome what you can do with it once you've gotten over the learning curve.

Wow, this trick is awesome. I was beginning to think I would have to do this manually, thanks a ton!

It will do this automatically if the concrete slab is the floor finish, not the floor structure. Use gravel for the floor structure.

@robdyck I'm probably missing something obvious, but I can't get the floor finish to be editable for my garage. It is greyed out. Any thoughts?

  8. Up until recently, my reference display worked great exactly as shown in the help docs and videos. I have no idea what changed, but now it no longer appears in red, but rather in black and anywhere a line on the reference display coincides with a line on the displayed floor, the lines "obliterate" one another and there is no line shown at all. It makes for some very strange views that are uninterpretable, especially when windows are on top of each other. I attached pics to show what I mean.

In my layer display options, the reference display set looks normal. Everything is in red.

How can one "reset" the reference display to work as it does in a fresh plan?

  9. HOLY CRAP! There was a 1" brick ledge in that 6" siding wall definition. I guess the stone veneer does that automatically.. and for some reason it was applied to the walls with just siding as well. Probably related to errant use of material eyedropper. It's always something like that.. for these problems I never even know what to search in the help docs. Thanks a ton guys!

  10. I've been hitting my head against a wall all day, I've tried every wall and foundation setting I can find short of redrawing the whole thing. Attached are the wall and foundation dialogs of this particular wall in their latest state. Any suggestions on a specific setting or issue I am missing?

  11. I'm stumped. I was getting a weird set of extra lines in my foundation view, and when I took a look in 3D I found it's my sheathing/siding layers cutting a notch out of my stem wall. I've played with stem wall thickness, wall layers, etc. and it won't budge. The detail I'd really like to accomplish is the one attached, but in the model I'm okay with standard stem wall to make an easy-to-follow layout and show the detail elsewhere. I'd attach the plan file but it is 35MB and above the size limit.. could email if need be. Please help!!

  12. I have an attic wall with a butting garage roof. The material on the lower portion of the attic wall seems to refuse to change to OSB, like the 2nd floor wall beneath it easily did. I have 'Lower Wall Type if Split by Butting Roof" checked and set to Interior-6. The preview looks like it will work but when I hit OK the actual wall does not change, and when I go back into the Materials section of the Wall's dialog it has been set back to siding. Any thoughts?

  13. Thanks Glenn! I think the issue is that my model is too far away from the origin. I have no idea how it got like that, but I am working on a plan that I made as a complete novice to the program so I'm not surprised. Now my issue is trying to pick up everything and move it closer to the origin. The Edit Area tool only seems to want to pick up the Floor I have viewable, even with All Layers ON. It will get the terrain and CAD lines as well, just not all the floors. How would one select and move everything on a plan.. Keep selecting and moving by the same coordinates using Transform?

  14. Whenever I try to do a virtual walk through, I get these random flashes of interior wall and roof layers coming through. It happens with both interior and exterior walk throughts. It looks horrible, see the attached example. I've tried turning off all sorts of layers in the camera view - nothing seems to help and I can't find anyone else mentioning this on here so I figure it must be a setting on my end. Also have tried playing with frame rates and rendering options to no avail. Any ideas?
