Thanks Eric.  Do soffits generate framing?

I have a sunken floor in a great room.  Where the lower floor meets the higher one, there is no wall behind the baseboard as can be seen in the attached image.  I followed the video "Dropping a Floor and Raising the Ceiling of a Room" and used an invisible wall as instructed.  I'm sure it's a setting in the wall properties, but I am unable to find it.  I'd appreciate some help with this.  Kevin

I've got a large great room opened to the 2nd floor.  There's a soffit (probably structural member) that aligns with the floor platform on the 2nd floor.  Is the soffit tool the best to use in this case?  If so, how do you change the bottom to be white to match the ceiling in adjacent room while the face of it remains the wall color?  If this is the wrong tool for this application, I would appreciate a suggestion.  Thanks, Kevin

robdyck & MarkMc - thanks for the input.  Copy, deleting, pasting objects in the way is a good tip that I hadn't thought of.  

I have two mulled windows with two mulled transoms above.  When I mull the lower and upper sections together, I lose the sill and apron on the window.  Any work around for this?  Thanks.

Is it even possible to get railings to connect when transitioning from landing to stairs?  I thought this is what the transition tick was for.  I could have modeled these in far less time than it has taken me to fool around with the stair tool!  In fact, think I'll do that now.

Eric - I want to get as automated as possible which is my reason for purchasing CA and I rather spend some extra time getting it right if CA is not capable of the task.  Attached is what I get with the railing tool.  As you can see I have 4 extra posts that aren't needed.  I don't see how it's possible to remove the extras without taking all of them out as javatom has suggested.  Also, the stairs are a real mess.  The railing is to the extreme outside for some reason - perhaps because I got rid of the overhang on the treads to make them brick.  I think in this situation, manual is the only possibility unless you have other thoughts.  Thanks for the "no room definition" tip.  I was looking for this function, but didn't know what to call it.  Kevin

Eric - thanks again for the reply.  Of course I have tried the railing tools as designed.  Remember the staircase you helped me with a couple days ago?  My first attempt was with the built-in tools.  However, when I assigned the doric columns as the newel posts, the railings will only reach to the outside bounding box of the column; therefore, not meeting the cylindrical part of the column which is set back in from the cap and base that define the bounding box.  Would love to use the built-in tools if you can show me a way around this issue.  Thanks again,  Kevin

I've got a front porch (image attached) that was created using a beam at the top with no rails/balusters.  I placed library objects for the columns.  Is there any way to use the straight railing tool to insert manual railing over existing invisible walls without the program making changes to the existing structure?  In the image I can place railing, but it overrides the beam at the top.  Also, I am unable to resize the railing to meet at the column even with the use of the control key.  I would appreciate someone explaining to me how to go about this.  Thanks.

I can change it here, but it is no longer "drywall".  Doesn't that affect the material calculations? 

William - I've tried that.  All I get as an option is drywall - no place to change the color.  Do I need to add a paint layer below?  Kevin

Just finished cutting back the overhangs.  The snaps were already built in - very handy!

This might seem like a silly question but, how do you change the default color of the drywall?  I've looked in various places under default settings and can't find it.  I'm sure there must be a simple answer for this.  Kevin

Eric - thanks for the explanation.  You had me wondering if I was showing the client something that I could not deliver.  I've been at this nonstop since 5am - think it's time for a break.  Kevin

William - I know how to break the roof edge.  Just not sure what tools to use to get the alignment right.  I know in AutoCAD I can create a line and extend the length to meet an edge and then snap to the resulting intersection.  Does CA do something similar?  Thanks again, Kevin.

William -  I was thinking CA would remove the overhang automatically.  Thanks for pointing this out.  I still have much to learn.  How did you go about siting the break point on the roof edge?

Eric -  These will be rafters with an air gap, insulation, and drywall.  That said, I'm doing this as a quick visual for the client.  I thought since the roof front to back of house was lower than the upper converging roof, the software would perform the necessary boolean and show correctly when viewed from inside.  Honestly, I am not picking up on what you're seeing.  I would appreciate your explanation.  Also, I am assuming the program automatically adds drywall to the bottom of the rafters when "flat ceiling" is unticked in the room settings.  Am I not looking at drywall here?  If not, what is it?  Thanks again for all your help.  Kevin

I have a vaulted ceiling at the intersection of two gable roofs - see attached.  The ceiling when viewed from inside has a jog in the middle where the two roofs connect.  Can someone explain to me why this is happening and to correct it?  The roof plane intersections appear to be correct.  Thanks, Kevin
