  1. Hi Chopsaw,

Do you mean 'roof auto rebuild' or is there an auto rebuild that applies to other geometry as well?

Yes. Locking ones other than the ones I'm working on. Any idea where that lock is?

    Thank you!

  2. This newbie is surely creating unclean geometry by doing this but it is a nice quick fix.

if you have a roof on floor 1 that is not allowing a complete wall for roof on floor 2 just figure out what roof plane is covering the wall

and in the 2D view, make a ‘copy in place’ of the offending plane.

Then pull vertices to one side of the blocked section of wall and do just the opposite to the copy. For example, pull vertices south

on one and then all north on the other. Of course you must maintain the same shape of the plane while doing this.

Can anyone think of a cleaner way to do this?

it would be nice if the software could give the option for any wall to pass through any given object so missing walls could be more easily handled.

  3. Is there a method that works well for making roofs that cannot all be done automatically?

I tried doing 100% manual but got confused quickly.

First floor works ok automatically but requires several edits.

Second floor is basically an A-frame  with 3 floating dormers...plopped on top of the first floor roofing.

I don't know which path is best.

    1. Do 1st floor auto, fix manually, then add A-frame on top somehow.

    2. Do 1st floor, add A-frame on top somehow, then go back and fix 1st floor.

    3. Do A-frame first, do 1st floor, then fix 1st floor geometry

I'm sure there are more options but I've noticed a tendency of doing one thing just to have a previous thing undone. Order may be important.

I've attached plan and roof drawing for anyone's perusal.

Suggestions as to how best to learn roofing are appreciated. I've seen most of the video tutorials.

    Thanks,

    Rocky

  4. Hi all,

I have a roof which is almost correct except it is missing a small section of porch roof (first floor) between left side bump out and garage (see balloon).

I added a room divider just below the balloon thinking it would simply add the missing small section of porch roof but instead it makes a much larger roof and forces the second floor walls to disappear. The file currently shows the missing porch floor and ceiling...to see the bad effect simply build the walls again.

Would someone be so kind as to take a peak and give me their thoughts?

    Thanks and happy Thanksgiving!

  5. I have created a perimeter on the first floor. Then created a second floor. Then created a smaller perimeter for the 'floor and a half '.

I build the roof and it looks good except all the walls are missing on the floor and a half level.

I thought you needed walls to make a roof unless you used room dividers. I didn't use room dividers and got the same effect somehow.

I would prefer to see the walls.

Any thoughts as to what tick I may have erroneously ticked?

    Thanks!
