  1. Thanks for the replies.  Yes, the rotate plan so far Im not liking it because even the camera view puts the default camera at the old angle as well.  I think the edit all floors tool you mentioned sounds like the best bet.  Thanks so much for the help!

  2. Does anyone know how to make the changed "rotate plan" angle the default view?  I realized rotating my plan 90 degrees actually worked better.  Once I changed the direction I then went and manually turned the room labels the same direction.  However, from that point on, anytime I make a new room label its still at the old angle.  Is there a way for chief to recognize the new angle of the plan is the correct angle and label accordingly or must I manually adjust everything from this point forward on this plan?

    Thanks!

  3. WOW im so excited about this... in previous versions ive tried this but it erases one or the other, this must be a new feature in X11, this is great.

Glenn, do you happen to know how to get the results chopsaw did with the barn shutters for the windows?  It doesn't look like he has a window plus door to get that result.

This whole new barn door adventure Im on is new and fun because we never had these in chief before.  Fun to be a newbie again at something chief!  (not that Im an expert by any means, just most things ive come across before).

  4. Thanks for the replies!

Chopsaw, how did you get that for a window?  I raised the barn door and it shortens like that but the window doesn't show up like that it just appears as a pass through without the option for a window.

Heres a link to a door I was looking to create automatically (if Possible) in Chief.  Its regular French doors but has full barn door shutters.

  5. Thanks for the help Michael!  Now Im feeling dumb since Ive used this software since 2003 and I don't know this.  I guess Ive never needed it in the past so I must have overlooked that.  Thanks again!

  6. Hi Glenn,

Thanks for the reply!  Im mostly speaking about indoor applications for upper railings that overlook an open to below area.  You know when the railing connects with the wall and then chief puts in the extra newel against the wall and you don't want it there.  Here is some pictures I want the newel on one side as the stairs come up but don't want it against the wall.  Any ideas??

  7. Does anyone know if you can create a railing with the newel on one side only?  I know with stairs you can opt to have the railing on one side only but I cant seem to figure out the option to do this for a railing?

    Thanks!

  8. Yes I agree with all the suggestions above.  In my opinion chiefs stair tool has changed very little if any since version 10 and that's not X10 Im talking about.  Stairs are becoming more and more important with higher density building so having a stair overhaul would be much appreciated.  Just my two cents.

I think chief does this automatically. Just untick the check boxes for "railing transitions" in stair dbx, while check boxes for "smooth transition" is checked on.

    thanks

Yusuf ---cool!  Thanks for a simple solution!  I will check and uncheck some of the boxes and see what results I can come up with, Im just so glad it can do it without a bunch of piece mealing it together.

Rob, I actually don't have a plan, I saw a staircase like this on tv and was just wondering if something like this could be done in chief, so I don't have a plan to show.  Im just excited it can do this so it opens up new design opportunities!

Thanks for all the input everyone!

  10. Exactly Chopsaw!  I couldn't find a really good picture online to describe it.  I tried a few things but nothing had the result I was looking for.   I tried turning the newels into balusters but it wont work because your either working with a staircase or a railing.  I can change both into balusters with no newels but they don't connect neatly like that.

  11. I was asked if Chief was able to automatically create radius wall corners and window openings?  I have noticed that many national homebuilders give the standard option of rounded wall and window corners with option for standard square corners.  I didn't think Chief did this but wanted to ask.

    Thanks!

  12. I was watching a tv episode showcasing old brownstones in NY.  This one was about 6 floors and had a central staircase that you could see from the first floor on up.  The staircase railing was continuous without interruption of newels or anything on the inside railing.  It made me wonder if chief was able to do this?  I sometimes don't like how chiefs staircases can get messing with using stair tools and railings, you can never have a clean finished look.  So would this be possible to have the continues railing in chief?

  13. I know every businesses goal is to make money but find it annoying that chiefs full bundle price use to include the $120 user manual and the usb key, now you have to pay extra.  On top of that the overall price has increased both on the overall price and the ssa.  Its like when you add all three of those angles together its like yuck.  At least if by making the add ons a pay separately price and then kept the pricing of ssa or just the product price lower it would be understandable but for all three to go up, its like this isn't an incentive to want to buy upgrades as often.

If you are good at reproducing that issue I am sure one of the pros could figure out what is going on if you post a sample plan file.

Good idea.  I just thought this was normal since it happens so much. For me I just accepted it as the way chief behaves with different wall types, I see this in bathroom design a lot with glass walls or walls with different thickness.

  15. Thanks for the replies and advice.  The thing is before I even hit the update libraries button or downloaded the latest library for Kohler the library already had 2971 objects in the library.  That's why I was wondering why it was featured on the new library list when nothing needed updating and nothing new was added??

Also I noticed a chief gear library was down in the library but never was on the featured list.  So now Im wondering do they frequently just put things in the different categories and not always on the featured section of content first?  Im just wanting to make sure my library is up to date and I have everything.  This method seems a little inconsistent.  Maybe someone from chief will chime in.

  16. So I have a question about our content library.  I already had the Kohler library installed.  Chiefs website has the "featured" libraries for new content or updated current manufacture or bonus libraries. Most the time I just click update my library if I see a library already existing in my library but featured on chiefs site because it mean it has an update.

I saw Kohler featured and figured I'll update my current Kohler library and the new content will be loaded.  The updater said the libraries are already up to date.  So Im wondering why the Kohler library is a 'new' featured library if it doesn't have new content and is the same as before?  Do we need to delete the library in this instance before we load the new one if theres new content?

  17. Does anyone know of any door hardware companies that provide 3d and 2d objects to use in Chief?  The selection of door hardware is limited.  I tried calling a few manufactures like Baldwin and a couple others but they don't seem to have that available yet.  In the meantime I just keep using the same old stuff we have in chief.

Anything running in the background that might be taking resources from your computer?

Perry, nope I checked to turn off anything that could be using additional resources.  I will just continue with what is and just have the patience to deal with the sketchy mouse.  If it gets to be too annoying I can try another mouse or just reinstall the last patch that wasn't so buggy.  Thanks for trying to help me out though, I appreciate it. :)

  19. I checked for the latest mouse drivers and it said I have the latest drivers for the entire computer including the mouse.  I guess Ill just deal with these annoyances or plug another mouse in and see if that works.  Worst case scenario I guess I can go back to the last chief update patch and install that because I had no issues with that version at all.  Hopefully another update will clear this up.
