Nice catch Maureen!!  I personally haven't had this problem come up but I know there have been several users who have had this problem and this is the only solution I've heard anyone bring up that makes any sense.  I read your posts a while back and gave you a point because I was 99% certain you were on to something but I finally just had the chance to test it and you are absolutely right.  The labels showing through the house can be very easily caused and addressed this way.

BTW, in addition to using delete surfaces you can also simply move the camera position.  In fact, reusing cameras and moving them may very well be what triggers the problem for some people in the first place.

I tried figuring this out for another user a while back and I couldn't reproduce or solve it.  Anyway, well done!  If I could give you more points I would.

Thanks Michael.  Yes, I meant to come back and suggest moving the camera too but never made it here, so thank you for noting that.  Moving the camera is definitely an easier solution if a number of labels are involved.

My problem with this began during Beta when casement window labels were broken and didn't show with 'automatic' checked.  I made my windows 'show in this view' to get around it.  Oy, what a mess.  Occasionally, I still find one of those old remnants.

  2. This has happened to me.What has worked  for me is to use the delete surfaces tool until you expose the offending door.  Carefully open the door, go to the label tab and uncheck show in this view and check automatic.  Repeat with the others.

I believe the reason this happens on legacy plans is because when CA introduced door and window labels in elevation, I mistakenly checked 'show in this view' trying to correct some initial erratic behavior.

  3. A vanity doesn't have to be a full 21" deep.  If you have room on the long wall for a shelf, you could fashion a +/-12" deep drawer with countertop. You could do a slide out shelf under the countertop to extend the work surface.  A slide out surface would be preferable to a drop down in my opinion so it wouldn't interfere with the seat.  You could recess a medicine cabinet into the wall (at the right height) to hold supplies.  I think it could be a fun little item and doesn't have to be large, just functional.  Search Pintrest for some ideas.

  4. I agree.  I have 100 plus files from 1995 to 1997 which can't be accessed through X8 and I don't have V9 available to open them. I do need to open one on occassion.  Those houses are now ready to be remodeled!

A converter would be a great solution.

  5. I can't print directly to my HP110 from Chief, and haven't been able to for a few versions.  I have reported it thru Beta and it was acknowledged as an issue but they couldn't track it down.  I can print from PDF to the printer without issue, so I wouldn't say it's a print driver problem.  I can print from other apps to the printer, just not from Chief.  Call me lucky!

I loaded x9 today,,, Its crashed on me 4 times now,,,, I'll go back to X8 I guess,,,,

I had a problem loading the beta on my Surfacebook with dual video cards.  I couldn't open the program.  The error was about the video driver.  The NVidia driver was from October 20th, and Windows said it was the latest and greatest.  I found a newer one through the NVidia control panel, and now all is working well.

  7. i might try putting one unit on level 1 with the CAD detail from view.  Then on level 2 drop in the second unit.  Using the reference floor you can use edit area floor to position the unit where it should be in relation to the lower level unit.  When you have it where you want it, Copy Paste Hold into position on level 1.  Do the same for the other 2 units.

If things don't work out, you can undo and go back to the other level and relocate as needed.

  8. I start with a 1.5 inch floor, build the roof, then raise the ceiling height as needed for the dormers. I always build dormers manually.

With our insulation standards we are now sitting the rafters on top of a 2x6 plate which sits on top of the floor. I almost always have an attic level floor.

  9. Larry,

I can print to my HP110 printer in Windows 10.  The old drivers work fine.  I cannot print directly from Chief to the 110, as was the case in Windows 8 and X7.  I can print from PDF without issue.

Windows 10 is a good OS.  I have been using since it's release.  Where it shines is installing printers and other devices, which could be troublesome in W7.

The only reason to avoid it would be incompatible older software or printers.
