Hi All, I have a few presentations at the 2015 Builder / Kitchen & Bath show. In particular is the topic using “3D Software to help Sell the Job”. In the past we have had presentations like – a kitchen that would change cabinets styles instantly using “set as default” It is fun and visual. (see video)
If you have some suggestions you can share, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you. Thanks in advance!

Jim, you can find a sample construction drawing completed in Chief Architect on our samples gallery. If you have time, take a look at the "Riverstone" plan.

The people figures that are in the 3D Library are "silhouettes" - in the specialty category. Agreed, the search function needs help - it's on our list

Take a look at this video on ray trace tips and techniques; it is long (1 hour), but it has good information. One tip I like to do before ray tracing, is inspect my materials with a ray trace preview. With the rainbow tool (define materials), go to the properties panel, and above the image preview change the setting to “show ray trace view” – it can quickly help you set your materials correctly before you run your main ray trace

Charles, the cross-section slider is going to leave hollow areas like you are seeing. You might try the doll house (floor overview); then, if you need, set the ceiling height to 5' - you can see the tradeoff in the attached image. (I suppose you could lower the height of windows and doors to get it exact)
You won't be able to use the slider with the floor overview, but you will have solids for doors/walls, etc. For water, use something like a polyline solid, set the elevation and paint it with water.

Todd, I think another user sent me the fridge or I downloaded from Sketchup. You can get the fridge I used from the Fire & Ice Kitchen sample plan on our website as well.

I wish someone would do a decent video explaining and showing how the DISTO is used with ROOM PLANNER.
Scott, there is a simplistic video on Room Planner; however, it may not have all the detail you are after. We have a few customers lined up to work with on putting more information together. In the mean time, if others have information to share, we would like to learn more on how people are measuring as-builts. Room Planner can be a good tool for as-builts and we are adding more functionality (besides an Android version). So, let us know what you need.

Chief Architect has a free video play list for new users, when you are at the video site, video.chiefarchitect.com go to the play list "Trial Version" (on the upper right side of the screen). There are several great videos to help (and our youtube channel). Also, we offer free webinars that can help - see the schedule here. Once you are a customer, you will then have full access to over 400 detailed videos on video.chiefarchitect.com

Rob, how about post your plan so I can look at it.

Rob, I don't see an easy way to do it w/o a custom countertop. If you select all of the cabinets and Convert to custom counter it may be faster than drawing a custom counter.
As for your moldings - you might turn off "create automatic fillers" in your cabinet defaults. When working with details on cabinets, I always have that option off.

Is 3.0 just an upgrade for Ipad Room Planner or is this the long awaited Room Planner for Android tablets?
Room Planner 3.0 is a major upgrade for iOS. It will have angled walls and room split, support for more Disto models - aimed at helping the as-built measurement process. The Android version is coming; should be the following release - later in year.

Here's a Gingerbread render we just created for a new Home Designer product. From the original house, it took about 10 minutes to create.

Here's a similar image from Chief. If you want to spend the time trimming the floor joists, etc, sure, you can achieve the same image at the top of the thread.

If the cabinet dialog does not solve your request, can you use a molding polyline?

"Newbie" disappears after 10 posts - so, I assume that won't take long for those reading this...

Ross, if you are talking about the space in between the light switches – you can bump them in 3D or elevation. I have seen where this sometimes is not in sync with the 2D

The new Cabinet Specialty Storage library catalog is available. Attach these storage pieces to Cabinets as Door Panels to automatically create customized cabinets great for office, wine, mudroom, or any other design with unique storage needs.
You can download them at the 3D Library

X7 Auto Nkba Issue, Openings Unchecked In All Dimensions, It Still Dimensions Openings.
in General Q & A
Posted
Barry,
For the Auto NKBA, there is not a control to turn off/on what you locate. It is designed to pickup the typical items the NKBA recommends.
I do it manually; using a dimension default for the cabinet boxes and one for my appliance centerlines. It works very quickly. In the dialog diagram these are “NKBA 1E – Elevation Cabinets” and “NKBA 2 – Appliance Centerline” (when using the centerline, change your dimension tool to centerline). If you want my defaults, you can export them from the Fire & Ice Sample plan (export the annotation sets; you will then just need to turn off openings in my NKBA 1E configuration.
