  1. Ha, interestingly, when I change the ceiling plane to be just a tad away from the wall (leaving a small space open), the colors reverse....  When the ceiling plane is pulled well over the wall top, it's dark on top.  When the ceiling plane is pulled away from the wall, it is light on top...

  2. Hi All

I have noticed this for a long time but just never got around to asking about it (I just upgraded to X11):

In PBR, when I have a vaulted or high ceiling, the higher part of the wall is darker.  It is perfectly linear at the point where the color changes.  This is not the case in Standard or in ray trace views.  Sometimes I noticed that my upper wall is a little skewed away from the lower wall, but not always.  I have added point lights up high but that doesn't help.  I tried different settings in the PB (while talking to tech support) and that didn't help.  And I tried to adjust the sunlight into the room.  Didn't help either.  The fact that the color change is SO exact worries me.  I have attached images.  I like to use PB in walkthroughs and panoramas.

On a side note, when trying to ensure that my attic walls were in line with my lower walls, the reference display set in X11 didn't show floor 1 in red as it usually does.  Not sure if it is an x11 bug.

    thanks

  3. My plan is too big (50+MB zipped).  I have made a smaller test plan with the same example.  Applying a stain to a tongue and groove (all materials are in Chief catalogs).

The 2 pics are from my plan, pine tongue and groove (I created in my user catalog) unstained and then stained with Quartersawn Oak Cobblestone.  I thought about trying to copy one of the Chief catalog stains and edit the transparency and then apply, but it still stained as full strength...

    thanks

  4. Is there a way to control how much blending occurs when you blend a color with a material?  I am trying to replicate a stained pine tongue and groove ceiling, and when I blend with the material, the texture is still there, but the original color is replaced with the blend color selection.  I'd like to see some of the pine color coming through some as in pic.

    thanks in advance

  5. Hi All

I am trying to learn how to create a soffit as in the picture attached.  The soffits are parallel with the ground.  But in Chief when I draw the roof plane, the soffits are at the same pitch as the roof.

Also, I want to create a custom molding to mimic the fascia in the pic.  I know how to create the molding, just want to make sure I know the best way to apply it to the roof.  Shadowboard?  I really know nothing about roofs.

Essentially this will be a metal roof.  Rafters covered with plywood and then the metal.

    thanks in advance,

    melissa

  6. Hi All

Trying to make a cabinet that looks like the image in attached pic.  I can find the metal part of this drawer in the library under one of the manufacturer catalogs.  But when I build the drawer, the side panels are there.  I just want the drawer front...

    thanks in advance

  7. Hi All,

I am trying to create a hole in a polyline solid.  I followed the directions on CA but get the error attached.  I am trying to make my pool scuppers look right by adding in a hole inside the scupper.

And on a side note, 3Dwarehouse has some neat things.  I always get tickled when I see those little water streams with the splash in the pool from the scuppers.  Great find at 3D warehouse.  But some things seem to be geared toward gaming, like finding a horse that had nothing to do with Roman warriors was a challenge, but I found a really nice one (pic also attached).

But any other free sources of good 3d objects?

  8. Hi All

I have to have a roof where the rafters are exposed.  I have followed the example in the support section but I am left a roof with the exposed plywood.  I know I can probably fix it with a polyline solid but I am wondering if there is a better way.

    THanks in advance !
