  1. Yeah - I was hoping there might be others who have encountered the same issues when bringing old plans into x18, and had figured out that there was a simple solution that they and other users had found. For now I'm just hanging in there with x17 until I have time to spend on diagnosing & working with tech support to make x18 work for me... can't risk the time right now to bring any more projects into 18 and lose more hours when I hit a snag. Thanks - will use the tech support link if I ever get a moment when I'm not on a deadline!
  2. To clarify the question: when opening my old x17 plans and working with them in x18, I am getting endless spins (hangups) while working with objects within a camera view or elevation view (even before sending it to a layout). I know (or read) that the issue has something to do with incompatible templates, but I don't know enough about templates (what they are, how to adjust/update them) to fix anything. When I upgraded to x18 I checked to include the two boxes that by default were unchecked -- one I think had to do with templates; I forget what the other one was.. library? -- to include as much of my existing defaults & way of working into the new version installation as I could. I'm wondering if I should uninstall x18 and reinstall without those boxes checked... would that help with the hangups? Are other users not able to use old (x17 and before) files with x18, getting the same snags?
  3. Here's the issue: I draw for remodels/additions. 75% of my work is in very similar homes: same kind of structure, defaults of floor/platform heights, brick dimensions, even cabinetry styles. I save a lot of time just re-naming previous project plan & layout files and updating a few things (maybe brick color, trim colors) and then moving the walls to match new project's field measure. In order to use x18 to avoid whatever is going on with incompatible template errors/hangups, do I need to just start over and do a brand new "typical" home to use for this copy/paste/rename timesaver? (I have a pretty good "library" of typical floorplans I've been able to draw from... sure would hate to lose that source!)
  4. I'm having the same issue with elevations hanging up just while I've got their window open and adding dimensions, lines, etc -- even before sending to layout. I also get hangup when creating or manipulating solids/slabs in camera mode. Grrrrr... Thinking I may have to re-create all the work I did today and put this plan back into v.17 to get this out to the client in time. Hours of repeat work. : (
  5. I did just discover that I could change my elevation markers to "framing reference" (under "marker inherits properties from" tab / define). This removed the absolute level markings but still shows the dimension from marker to marker. So now it just has the markers with the label (such as "top of slab") but no value underneath the words, which accomplishes what I needed, I guess.
  6. I have two structures on my file: the main house (whose main subfloor is at zero) and the separate garage/ADU, whose slab I set at 24" below main house's subfloor, because of the fall of the lot (so both buildings could be modeled with realistic heights on the parcel. I am now generating plans for just the ADU and would like the elevation markers to have ZERO as the slab top level (so builder can just focus on this building). Is there a way to hack the elevation markers to subtract 24" from markings??
  7. Thanks - yeah that wall drag thing doesn't correct it. Thank god for slabs and solids.... ( :
  8. Holy cow, @VHampton you did it! It was related to #1 in your sketch. The corner walls were already connected (the area of sheathing showing probably has to do with my wall layers -- but they were connected) and my roofs were snapped together just fine... but the roof against the brick wall (adjacent to the one you pointed at) was slightly crooked along the line where it sits against the wall. I fixed that and immediately the sword was gone. What a relief. The sword was not a ceiling plane but a soffit plane... when I had tried unchecking the "boxed eave" option on both roofs, the sword changed angles (changed to a plane that would have been like an extension of an open eave's soffit). Clearing that up in case anyone else is having the same issue and sees this some day. @PitMan71, @RL-inc - Thank you so much for taking the time, everyone!
  9. My plan file is 36.7 MB -- can't attach it. Solution?
  10. This happens from time to time, and can't be fixed by deleting the roof and creating another, or re-joining the roofs, etc. I have solved this before and it seems like it was simple, but can't remember what the fix was. Does anyone recognize this issue ... I'll call it a "spear" ... and know what's up? Notice in the one screenshot when I click on the roof plane there is a little gray rectangle that corresponds to the spear location. and also to note, if I remove the adjoining roof (over the wall with windows), the white spear disappears, but comes back if I re-create it. I have re-generated both of these roofs from scratch as well, and same spear is there. Also -- it is definitely SOFFIT, and in this case it's a boxed eave, and if I turn off boxed, it just becomes a slanted sword higher up.
  11. Swap only works if you're alternating large and small blocks... maybe I'll try doing that, and set the small one at zero thickness with zero space between ??
  12. Setting the bottom of course just moves where the quoins begin, but the "outie" sections stay where they are. I need the bit at the frieze NOT to have a quoin sticking out, and the way it's generating is exactly opposite of what I need (need 3 bricks out, then 3 bricks in, but it's doing the reverse order vertically). Workaround? A setting I can't find?
  13. Well good grief. Yes. I had no idea. I don't use hotkeys at all because... well because I'm an idiot, apparently. I know most on here wouldn't draw without them. Must learn about hotkeys.... Thank you so much.
  14. Normally if I draw a rectangle, when I click on one side of it, the dimension across to the other side will appear. Sometimes it just doesn't show up, which is highly inconvenient. I have saved, shut down, started my computer up again, and it is still doing this (or NOT doing it, which is the problem). It doesn't matter what file I open... in other projects the program is giving me the same problem. Is there a setting where this feature is turned on and off? (why would anyone ever want to turn this off??) Haaallllpp. (Edit: ALSO - not showing distances for anything, really -- click on a wall and it does not show distance to nearby parallel wall.)
