  1. Thank you for this update on Dropbox. Lot of good info in this thread!
  2. Rene, thanks for sharing your vid, as I just finished watching it. Since you're part of the Chief beta team, could I suggest an idea here? How about a new layer called "Changes / Modifications" or whatever your beta team would commit to? You'd click on the icon in the rightmost panel (where Snaps, Lineweights, etc. live). It would track the current floor plan and the new layer could be added on top, where the changes could take place. It would have a different color (selected by user) and a new Reference Display dedicated to the new modifications to the floor plan. The person or team opening the new/updated project would see the existing floor plan, but now would have this overlay or layer showing changes that were made by another team member. All they would have to do is click an "update original floor plan" command, and it would unlock the new layer and apply the new updates. The person or team would just remove the existing objects and it would blend the floor plans together. It could be something similar to Photoshop layers but very easy to understand and make changes. AutoCAD has XRef's and this suggestion in Chief could be a workaround.
  3. Rene, Since you're an expert on Dropbox, my collaborator and I just tried an experiment from separate states. He sent me a text folder, with link to DB. I clicked the link and DB opened. I selected the file and couldn't preview it, and the only option was to download the file. We're trying to be able to access the file together (e.g., XYZ.plan) and not have to download it to a remote computer (mine). He is able to do this with a desktop shortcut icon and get right into DB/ X15. If I try to make a shortcut on DB, it only allows me to access the folder and need to download the file.
  4. Thanks for your comments. Rene, what is an NAS and could you describe it? I'm new to this, so any help is sincerely appreciated...
  5. Wanted to throw this out to you experts on Chief - doing some research and trying to find out your best recommendations for sharing files of large projects with a design team in another state? There are several options that come to mind - Dropbox, iDrive, and other Cloud services. We are running on a Windows platform and want to be able to easily access files and update content as-needed.
  6. Robert, That's exactly what I'm looking for. How do I create the 3D tile like you've shown?
  7. I'm working on a new ADU project that needs an actual 3D barrel tile roof that looks realistic. The symbol that's in the Library is not any good, as it's flat and you cannot see the radiused tiles from a distance. I don't want to try and spend hours creating one with polylines and other tools, but wanted to enlist your help on this one. Best -
  8. Good idea Mick. I'll do that. Also, could you create an entrance door (pair of doors) with arched frame/hardware for a Spanish-style entry (each leaf would be 3' x 8' high)? I'd be happy to pay you for your time, as I checked and downloaded all possible custom doors from Chief, as well as go to 3D Warehouse without any luck. Attaching an actual photo of these. No more requests, as these are the only outstanding items to complete. If you have a 3D source for these types of doors Mick, that would be sincerely appreciated too, rather than creating from scratch. Thank you -
  9. Mick, Many, many thanks for the file. This is exactly what would have taken me hours and hours to figure out! Attaching a screenshot of it in the sunken living room of a current project that's still in design. Best -
  10. Mick, Thanks for your instructions and layout. I wish Chief had videos describing these objects. I've used blocks and shapes before, but never Solids, Subtraction, etc. Great information that I'll work on tomorrow. Really appreciate your comments.
  11. Thanks for sending the information on the Kiva fireplace. I researched the name "Beehive" fireplace and similar info came up. Glad there's an official name to this. That said, the rendered Kiva fireplace that you sent the .plan file over looks very close to the original photo. I raised the hearth and used different colors, but too me, it's very similar. This is for my own use and am rendering a custom home with sunken living room. No client, just my own personal use. Original photo of the existing home and rendered view are attached.
  12. Gene, Many thanks again for your "Beehive" fireplace symbol. I was able to stretch and make it work for this project! Attached is the preliminary rendering using this. Best -
  13. Gene, I've been trying to understand what you're saying, but am totally lost after "use Chief CAD in an elevation view to draw and measure your base size, height,..." I can't follow your instructions and apologize. Please see my efforts in attachment.
  14. Thanks for the comments and instructions, along with file. I imported it into the project, but it's not showing up in camera view. Will attempt it later tonight (I have to run). I may have imported it incorrectly. Best -
  15. Mark, Thanks for your comment and help. This is exactly what I'm looking for. By chance, could you send me the plan file for this fireplace? I don't have time to research boolean operations right now. Trying to finalize a project. Best - Dave
  16. I'm "trying", key word, to create a custom fireplace for the corner of a Spanish style home. Attached is the photo of the actual fireplace. Trying to use solids tool and cone shape. I can tilt it off its axis, but have no way or idea how to create an opening inside for firewood, etc. Also tried 3D Warehouse, but they didn't have anything except traditional style fireplaces.
  17. Thank you Joey. This helps. Have to use the cross section tool to adjust heights, but this will work.
  18. Trying to find out how to add base molding to two sides of a room. The first two are standard walls with base molding. The second two are created from slab tools. I've tried searching the Tutorials, but cannot find a solution. Want to throw it out to the experts for your ideas? See attached PDF of what I'm trying to do. BestCreate Custom Molding PDF.pdf
  19. Apologies if this has already been answered, but I've been in the Defaults toolbar and desperately trying to suppress all labels. It's ridiculous to cut a section, import a CAD block, import an image, etc., only to have a label attached to each one. How can you turn on "Suppress Labels" and make it global?
  20. Here's what I'm referring to (Chief Beta Request). See attached. I've highlighted the unused Cabinet layers, yet the box to Delete them is grayed out!
  21. It's crazy to have 30 plus layers in a default setting and not be able to delete all but three or four! This would be a good suggestion for X16 as it's a huge time bandit to have to sort through the entire content just to get to the layers you need. CHIEF BETA REQUEST - Please allow us users to be able to delete as many unused layers as necessary. It's senseless to have Roof, Cabinet, Slab, Terrain, etc., when all we need is three or four layers for a CAD project.
  22. I'm designing a simple project with just CAD lines, text, and dimensions. Is there a way to delete all other layers inside of a Layer Set? I don't need Cabinets, Windows, etc., but would like to have just a CAD set only. Attaching an example.
  23. Thank you both for the tips on making this work. I don't do a lot of kitchen renders and it showed The vid was excellent and helpful!
  24. I have tried everything in the book in an attempt to offset a Thermador or any dishwasher from a base cabinet. Usually, you can just "tab" over after selecting an object and it will allow you to select "next". Mine won't for some reason. Could you give me an idea on how to do this? See attachment with actual photo and my dilemma Thanks
  25. I’ve ordered 11 x 17 grid paper (four squares per inch), a laptop table tripod (for placing and drawing on grid paper), and laser measuring device. I know this is old school, but dimensions and accuracy are most important. Once LiDAR and apps improve, I’ll switch if accuracy is exceptional. This could be a timesaver but right now, it’s not there yet.
