  1. Good idea Mick. I'll do that. Also, could you create an entrance door (pair of doors) with arched frame/hardware for a Spanish-style entry (each leaf would be 3' x 8' high)? I'd be happy to pay you for your time, as I checked and downloaded all possible custom doors from Chief, as well as go to 3D Warehouse without any luck. Attaching an actual photo of these. No more requests, as these are the only outstanding items to complete. If you have a 3D source for these types of doors Mick, that would be sincerely appreciated too, rather than creating from scratch. Thank you -
  2. Mick, Many, many thanks for the file. This is exactly what would have taken me hours and hours to figure out! Attaching a screenshot of it in the sunken living room of a current project that's still in design. Best -
  3. Mick, Thanks for your instructions and layout. I wish Chief had videos describing these objects. I've used blocks and shapes before, but never Solids, Subtraction, etc. Great information that I'll work on tomorrow. Really appreciate your comments.
  4. Thanks for sending the information on the Kiva fireplace. I researched the name "Beehive" fireplace and similar info came up. Glad there's an official name to this. That said, the rendered Kiva fireplace that you sent the .plan file over looks very close to the original photo. I raised the hearth and used different colors, but too me, it's very similar. This is for my own use and am rendering a custom home with sunken living room. No client, just my own personal use. Original photo of the existing home and rendered view are attached.
  5. Gene, Many thanks again for your "Beehive" fireplace symbol. I was able to stretch and make it work for this project! Attached is the preliminary rendering using this. Best -
  6. Gene, I've been trying to understand what you're saying, but am totally lost after "use Chief CAD in an elevation view to draw and measure your base size, height,..." I can't follow your instructions and apologize. Please see my efforts in attachment.
  7. Thanks for the comments and instructions, along with file. I imported it into the project, but it's not showing up in camera view. Will attempt it later tonight (I have to run). I may have imported it incorrectly. Best -
  8. Mark, Thanks for your comment and help. This is exactly what I'm looking for. By chance, could you send me the plan file for this fireplace? I don't have time to research boolean operations right now. Trying to finalize a project. Best - Dave
  9. I'm "trying", key word, to create a custom fireplace for the corner of a Spanish style home. Attached is the photo of the actual fireplace. Trying to use solids tool and cone shape. I can tilt it off its axis, but have no way or idea how to create an opening inside for firewood, etc. Also tried 3D Warehouse, but they didn't have anything except traditional style fireplaces.
  10. Thank you Joey. This helps. Have to use the cross section tool to adjust heights, but this will work.
  11. Trying to find out how to add base molding to two sides of a room. The first two are standard walls with base molding. The second two are created from slab tools. I've tried searching the Tutorials, but cannot find a solution. Want to throw it out to the experts for your ideas? See attached PDF of what I'm trying to do. BestCreate Custom Molding PDF.pdf
  12. Apologies if this has already been answered, but I've been in the Defaults toolbar and desperately trying to suppress all labels. It's ridiculous to cut a section, import a CAD block, import an image, etc., only to have a label attached to each one. How can you turn on "Suppress Labels" and make it global?
  13. Here's what I'm referring to (Chief Beta Request). See attached. I've highlighted the unused Cabinet layers, yet the box to Delete them is grayed out!
  14. It's crazy to have 30 plus layers in a default setting and not be able to delete all but three or four! This would be a good suggestion for X16 as it's a huge time bandit to have to sort through the entire content just to get to the layers you need. CHIEF BETA REQUEST - Please allow us users to be able to delete as many unused layers as necessary. It's senseless to have Roof, Cabinet, Slab, Terrain, etc., when all we need is three or four layers for a CAD project.
  15. I'm designing a simple project with just CAD lines, text, and dimensions. Is there a way to delete all other layers inside of a Layer Set? I don't need Cabinets, Windows, etc., but would like to have just a CAD set only. Attaching an example.
  16. Thank you both for the tips on making this work. I don't do a lot of kitchen renders and it showed The vid was excellent and helpful!
  17. I have tried everything in the book in an attempt to offset a Thermador or any dishwasher from a base cabinet. Usually, you can just "tab" over after selecting an object and it will allow you to select "next". Mine won't for some reason. Could you give me an idea on how to do this? See attachment with actual photo and my dilemma Thanks
  18. I’ve ordered 11 x 17 grid paper (four squares per inch), a laptop table tripod (for placing and drawing on grid paper), and laser measuring device. I know this is old school, but dimensions and accuracy are most important. Once LiDAR and apps improve, I’ll switch if accuracy is exceptional. This could be a timesaver but right now, it’s not there yet.
  19. Thanks Richard. Great idea. Just have to get a large clipboard and we’re good to go!
  20. What would you recommend for a laser measure? Would you go Bluetooth or no? Looks like the consensus is to stay with old school ways of measuring (for now) and using a grid pad of paper for scaling. LiDAR has some potential, just not ready for prime time yet.
  21. Just checked out Cubicasa and Matterport platforms. Neither is very accurate and one even missed the dimensions by over 11 inches. A workaround might be using Magic Plan with a laser input for dimensions, stitching the rooms together and exporting as a .dwg or .dxf format into Chief. Photogrammetry is interesting but appears that it would not work well with what we do for floor plans and elevations. Still researching and will post findings...
  22. All great comments! I've researched ArcSite, Magic Plan, PolyCam, Scaniverse, and Canvas. All have good and bad points. That said, I'm still doing research and will report back with findings. With new technology, there should be a way of saving a lot of time and having accurate scans - hopefully. Will keep you posted...
  23. I tried searching this topic and my apologies if it's been covered ad nauseam, as I didn't get any good results. I've been using a Bosch laser (non-BlueTooth) and paper pad and pencil for many years. With the new iPad and iPhone LiDAR scanning abilities, do you have a preferred app that you'd recommend? One that would be very accurate and able to "stitch" rooms together to bring back to office and import into X13/X14?
  24. I too am looking to upgrade my 5-yr old Win 10 PC that I built from scratch. It's worked great, but the new Mac Studios are too cool. Just waiting for the Mac Pro (new version) to come out perhaps Q1 2023, then decide which one will be good to go for next 5-yrs? Was looking into building a water-cooled system with AMD chipset, but I'm getting done with the Windows platform. Looking forward to reading more comments from the Mac users in X13 and 14! Cheers!
  25. Dermot, Yes, this worked and the side windows are back. I've been using Chief since 1998 and with every new release, things get modified or updated. Many thanks for your help on this one. Your link was extremely helpful by the way, and was easy to follow.
