Jason, thanks for this info. This might be a good solution and will try it.

You could continue to do this, but the numbering system would have to be done each time you drag them into the project. I was trying to find out if you could simply pick what you needed from a menu, drag them into a dialogue box, and they would populate and be numbered in order that you dropped them into the box.

Thanks for the info. It appears that this is not available in CA yet. Will have to do a workaround and appreciate the link to the vid.

I tried the Search feature for anything available for what appears to be a simple note schedule. Trying to create a General Notes schedule that has a variety of options in a column or menu. When adding notes to, say, a floor plan, all you do is individually select (e.g., "2x6 exterior walls w/R21 insulation...") This is added into some type of Keynote Schedule and populates as you select the next item. There would be a large number of these individual notes, and different ones would be used on different projects. As they're added into the schedule, they number themselves, and once you're finished, Send To Layout with appropriate scale. I watched two videos on Schedules, but they weren't much help. Going to screen capture what this General Notes / Keynotes list would look like. Keynotes Example X15 PDF.pdf

Kevin, thank you for this info. When Dropbox asks if I want to link or sync my personal Dropbox account, do I tell it "no"? This is what the desktop app was asking last night and I wasn't sure what to do, as it wanted to make a copy to my Windows computer. Am attaching two screenshots of the questions DB asked. Not sure what to do here?
-
Kevin, you nailed it. We got on a GoToMyPC call and found that his Dropbox is pointed to his online account (obviously). Mine is pointed to my PC. We tried without success to point my PC and Dropbox to the online version of his. I even used his credentials and logged in online and able to see all of the folders, etc. Do you know how to point my PC to the online version of Dropbox of my associates? Going to attach a screen shot to show what it looks like on my PC. Screenshot 1 - This is my PC with incorrect Dropbox link. I open X15 Layout or Plan files and it reaches to my PC rather than online Dropbox.

Thanks Rene for your comments as always. The only time that both of us are working on the file together is when we have a GoToMyPC meeting. I shut my PC down at night, as well as my colleague (I think). The issue starts when I try and access the folder on my PC in the morning to start working. My colleague can't see the changes that I've made to the plan set (Layout and Plan files). Mine shows all of the updated changes, but he cannot see anything I've updated when viewing the folder inside Dropbox.

What we're trying to do is to be able to share the X15 file which has a full set of house plans (Layout, Plan files, images, etc.) in a Folder inside Dropbox. We both need to be able to access it and make changes and then save it back to Dropbox. When I open the Layout file, it's not accessing Dropbox online. I make changes and save the Layout/Plan files, but it doesn't post back up inside Dropbox. What we don't want is a bunch of folders inside Dropbox with various dates where the Layout/Plan files were all saved. Just trying to use one folder with all contents inside related to this house project.

Am having extreme difficulty saving a Layout or Plan file from X15 into Dropbox for another team member to view and modify. We did a GoToMyPC meeting this morning and we both dropped "image" files (PDF and JPEG) into the shared online "live" folder. Populated right away and we both could see these. When I start working on a Layout or Plan file, I use the typical commands to open each respective file. It's loading from Dropbox, but it's not the "live" link to the model that lives inside Dropbox. I cannot access the "live" Dropbox online link for some reason. Any changes made throughout the day are not copied back to Dropbox online, rather are copied back to my Dropbox file in the PC. Attaching an image showing where the Dropbox settings reside on my PC. This has to be a simple solution in a setting, I'm just not able to see it. Dropbox Link Conflict PDF.pdf

Thank you for this update on Dropbox. Lot of good info in this thread!

Rene, thanks for sharing your vid, as I just finished watching it. Since you're part of the Chief beta team, could I suggest an idea here? How about a new layer called "Changes / Modifications" or whatever your beta team would commit to? You'd click on the icon in the rightmost panel (where Snaps, Lineweights, etc. live). It would track the current floor plan and the new layer could be added on top, where the changes could take place. It would have a different color (selected by user) and a new Reference Display dedicated to the new modifications to the floor plan. The person or team opening the new/updated project would see the existing floor plan, but now would have this overlay or layer showing changes that were made by another team member. All they would have to do is click an "update original floor plan" command, and it would unlock the new layer and apply the new updates. The person or team would just remove the existing objects and it would blend the floor plans together. It could be something similar to Photoshop layers but very easy to understand and make changes. AutoCAD has XRef's and this suggestion in Chief could be a workaround.

Rene, Since you're an expert on Dropbox, my collaborator and I just tried an experiment from separate states. He sent me a text folder, with link to DB. I clicked the link and DB opened. I selected the file and couldn't preview it, and the only option was to download the file. We're trying to be able to access the file together (e.g., XYZ.plan) and not have to download it to a remote computer (mine). He is able to do this with a desktop shortcut icon and get right into DB/ X15. If I try to make a shortcut on DB, it only allows me to access the folder and need to download the file.

Thanks for your comments. Rene, what is an NAS and could you describe it? I'm new to this, so any help is sincerely appreciated...

Wanted to throw this out to you experts on Chief - doing some research and trying to find out your best recommendations for sharing files of large projects with a design team in another state? There are several options that come to mind - Dropbox, iDrive, and other Cloud services. We are running on a Windows platform and want to be able to easily access files and update content as-needed.

3D Barrel Tile Spanish/Mediterranean Roof Symbol
DHerb2014 replied to DHerb2014's topic in General Q & A
Robert, That's exactly what I'm looking for. How do I create the 3D tile like you've shown? -
I'm working on a new ADU project that needs an actual 3D barrel tile roof that looks realistic. The symbol that's in the Library is not any good, as it's flat and you cannot see the radiused tiles from a distance. I don't want to try and spend hours creating one with polylines and other tools, but wanted to enlist your help on this one. Best -
-
Good idea Mick. I'll do that. Also, could you create an entrance door (pair of doors) with arched frame/hardware for a Spanish-style entry (each leaf would be 3' x 8' high)? I'd be happy to pay you for your time, as I checked and downloaded all possible custom doors from Chief, as well as go to 3D Warehouse without any luck. Attaching an actual photo of these. No more requests, as these are the only outstanding items to complete. If you have a 3D source for these types of doors Mick, that would be sincerely appreciated too, rather than creating from scratch. Thank you -

Mick, Many, many thanks for the file. This is exactly what would have taken me hours and hours to figure out! Attaching a screenshot of it in the sunken living room of a current project that's still in design. Best -
-
Mick, Thanks for your instructions and layout. I wish Chief had videos describing these objects. I've used blocks and shapes before, but never Solids, Subtraction, etc. Great information that I'll work on tomorrow. Really appreciate your comments.

Thanks for sending the information on the Kiva fireplace. I researched the name "Beehive" fireplace and similar info came up. Glad there's an official name to this. That said, the rendered Kiva fireplace that you sent the .plan file over looks very close to the original photo. I raised the hearth and used different colors, but too me, it's very similar. This is for my own use and am rendering a custom home with sunken living room. No client, just my own personal use. Original photo of the existing home and rendered view are attached.
-
Gene, Many thanks again for your "Beehive" fireplace symbol. I was able to stretch and make it work for this project! Attached is the preliminary rendering using this. Best -

Gene, I've been trying to understand what you're saying, but am totally lost after "use Chief CAD in an elevation view to draw and measure your base size, height,..." I can't follow your instructions and apologize. Please see my efforts in attachment.

Thanks for the comments and instructions, along with file. I imported it into the project, but it's not showing up in camera view. Will attempt it later tonight (I have to run). I may have imported it incorrectly. Best -

Mark, Thanks for your comment and help. This is exactly what I'm looking for. By chance, could you send me the plan file for this fireplace? I don't have time to research boolean operations right now. Trying to finalize a project. Best - Dave

I'm "trying", key word, to create a custom fireplace for the corner of a Spanish style home. Attached is the photo of the actual fireplace. Trying to use solids tool and cone shape. I can tilt it off its axis, but have no way or idea how to create an opening inside for firewood, etc. Also tried 3D Warehouse, but they didn't have anything except traditional style fireplaces.
