Mattice_Design Posted yesterday at 04:58 PM Share Posted yesterday at 04:58 PM Hi All - This is my first post here so please be gentle! Using X16. I have a project where I'm tiling the underside of archways and the material/texture will not stay the same direction the entire way through the arch. In other words it starts off being oriented correctly the same direction as the wall tile but when it gets to the center of the arch for some reason the material changes direction. I've tried doing this with a 3D Solid and also creating a 'Doorway' with no trim and no jamb and it happens in both cases. Is there something really easy that I'm missing? I've attached the plan and also a copy of two screenshots to illustrate the issue. Thanks in advance and I appreciate the help. PitMan71 Posted yesterday at 05:46 PM Share Posted yesterday at 05:46 PM Welcome to the community! So.... I downloaded your .plan.... your tile textures did not tag along. Bummer. BUT here is what I would try if I were you. Open the opening.... Go to the Jamb tab and turn on the Jamb.... Maybe change the thickness to what your tile would be say 3/8". Then go down to the Materials tab. Click on Jamb and select the material you want it to be. See if this helps. Another thing you could try is changing to a different tile material to see if the behavior is the same as when you are getting with the material you want to use. Good luck. Mattice_Design Posted yesterday at 06:33 PM Author Share Posted yesterday at 06:33 PM Thank you for the quick advice! Tried both of your suggestions: 1) I added a 3/8" jamb as you suggested and it worked perfectly! Rendered exactly how I wanted it too. However there needs to be a niche in the wall return that's now the jamb, and Chief won't let you put an opening through door jambs materials. I did try also making the 'Side Jamb' dimension 0" just to see if it would delete the side jambs entirely but it does not. They are converted to faces without dimension and you still can't insert an opening into them. So that was super close and almost worked, thank you! 2) I have tried a ton of materials thing that it may be an issue with how that one is set up but they all do the same thing, even wood finishes. So I'm basically still trying to figure out if its something with my settings/defaults or if its just a limitation to the program. Could someone try making a 3D Solid with an arched bottom like my attached picture and seeing if your computer does the same thing? That would at least tell me its somewhere on my end and I could stop trying to come up with a solution when there is none. Thanks All! Mattice_Design
OK - I think I found a workaround if anyone is having the same issue. You can create a molding polyline that follows the curve of the archway and just create a flat piece of molding (3/8" tile thickness perhaps ;-)) the same thickness as the jamb would be but just for the top of the arch and not the side. For some reason all the textures do render correctly on a piece of flat molding, just not on a 3D solid. Thanks all for the help. Justin
