NathanielK
I have a central room which will serve basically as a stairwell that extends thru two floors, but the room is actually a 3-story tall stone-and-mortar tower with a room at the top (yes, like a castle). I have the room created on the first floor, but it's not showing as extending through the upper floors. What settings do i check to make sure that it's one continuous tower, and it shows in each floor? I've tried searching through these forums and the help manual, but I must not be using the correct search terms. It seems like a simple problem, but I'm not finding a solution. richoffan
Go to the room above, highlight and specify room as open below. You can turn off label if you want or change it to whatever you want
NathanielK
So i have to make a separate room with its own walls (aligning with the walls below) on each floor? That seems counterintuitive.... Some walls extend up thru higher floors — i've seen it. Thats what im going for.
richoffan
as "they" say one man's ceiling is another man's floor. Keep in mind if you try to analyze every thing there is to build and every way to do it you'd never get anything done. The easiest way I do it is build that perimeter as you suggest. This can be anything you want that defines an area. Railings, room dividers, wall etc. Then spec the area you want open to open below. If you want a continuous wall in the tower then open the dbx for the walls (group select) open structure and make the walls balloon framing. May not be "intuitive" but it works for me. Hope this helps.
NathanielK
Ok. So i guess i have to copy the room on the 1st floor to the second floor since i cant bring the walls up to extend thru it. I cant figure how to copy the tower room. Anyone have any ideas! CA11
Solution JiAngelo Posted 5 hours ago Solution Share Posted 5 hours ago 1. Turn on the reference layer for the floor below and draw the room over the red lines. OR 2. Copy the 4 walls below switch to the upper layer and paste them in place. Either way, then open the new room and select Open Below for the room type. It will now appear as one big shaft. And you can repeat this for multiple floors. Remember the openings you put in those walls belong to the floor they are on. Best if the walls belong to that floor too. NathanielK
Thank you! Very clear and concise! Took some figuring out what commands will help. So here's what i did: 1. Selected the tower walls on the first floor (8 in this case), but on the last wall, ctrl-right-clicked to select and pull up the context menu. 2. Selected Copy/Paste, then brought up the 2nd floor and selected Edit >> Paste >> Paste Hold Position, which put it exactly in the same spot. 3. Selected the resulting room polygon, double-clicked, and unchecked Floor Under This Room in the Structure page. I checked in the 3D view to confirm it did exactly what i wanted. Thanx to you both for your help!
