3D Models: Use, Organization, Libraries

Hello Chieftalk!

This is my first post on the new forum... it's been a while.

How do you use the 3d warehouse?

Do you have all of your downloaded models organized and saved locally?

Or do you just look it up when you need it?

What's the best 3d model file format for home designers?

I'm considering making a library of railing designs.

Would this be useful to you?

There's a lot. So I probably wouldn't do every single custom design, just some of the cooler ones.

I wouldn't be making the models so if it happens I'll probably post something in the seeking services.

I would want the models to be usable by multiple softwares.

I have read that the new, best format is .dae by Collada. (That makes me want some cuban coffee!!)

Thanks for sharing what you think!

Welcome back,

DAE works for newer users but those who don't have the latest version would still benefit from dwg, dxf.

I think most users use 3D wharehouse on an as needed basis. Also, symbols are usually post to the symbols and content forum. New symbols are always welcome.

Jimmy - dxf is not necessarily preferred but as I said those with older versions can't import 3ds so for them it is preferred. Those of us with X6 are happy with 3dss. Personally I am not sure of the benefit of one over the other.

Not sure what you mean by plan view. Symbols have 2d blocks that generate from the symbol itself.
